Israel and Hamas reach cease-fire, hostage deal

Last Update November 21, 2023 08:20pm ET

Israel has agreed Tuesday to a cease-fire and hostage release deal with Hamas that was brokered by Qatari negotiators, the Israeli government has confirmed to Fox News.

"Tonight, the government approved the outline for the first stage of achieving this goal, according to which at least 50 hostages - women and children - will be released for 4 days, during which there will be a lull in the fighting," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement. "The release of every ten additional hostages will result in an additional day of respite."

"The Israeli government, the IDF and the security forces will continue the war in order to return all the hostages, to complete the elimination of Hamas and to ensure that Gaza does not renew any threat to the State of Israel," the statement added.

The agreement comes as Israel and Hamas are in the 47th day of the war, which began on Oct. 7 when Palestinian terrorists launched a surprise attack on southern Israel.

To date, there have been more than 1,200 Israelis reported killed by Hamas, while the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health is claiming nearly 13,000 civilians have been killed from Israeli military activity in Gaza.

Trade hostages at a 1-for-3 ratio. Release 1 woman or child and we'll release 3 terrorists. What a deal.

The leader of Gaza, and mastermind behind the October 7th invasion, massacre and kidnapping of the current hostages from Israel, Yahya Sinwar, was one of the 1,027 prisoners swapped for kidnapped IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit in 2011.

All this does is make the taking of hostages a greater likelihood in the future.

Presently, what is the life expectancy for an Hamas terrorist in the wild?

Release them, kill them in a month.

What's important right now is getting back as many hostages as possible.

They will do it anyway. Israel cannot abandon its citizens in captivity.

All things in time. Every one of these terrorists is living on borrowed time.

Hamas will lie and not execute their end in good faith. I listened to a policy wonk today who said if the Iraeli goal is to recover 50 hostages, Hamas will stall on producing them. Xan't find all 50. Here's a couple and they'll look for others meanwhile, they'll ask for more time to use for regrouping and rearming would they look.

But once all the hostages are released, they have nothing left.

The wonk claimed this is the standard MO and Hamas is demanding no drones during the pause.

Israel has to do whatever it can to get some of the hostages back, but the deal is a huge win for Hamas. Israel is going to end up being sorry that they didn't just wipe every single inbred palestinian savage off the face of the earth.

I could NOT agree more (with this part of your post)!! "Go along to get along" for Israel hasn't worked for as long as I've been alive. What is that Einstein says about doing the same thing over and over expecting different results???

It sure rubs me the wrong way that Israel is negotiating, which will only benefit the bad guys. But I think time is on Israel's side here. They will eventually kill every person who has fingerprints on Oct. 7th and then some. I'd like to see them all dead now, but we all know Israel will get them eventually.

And do what in the process? Kill Israeli women and children being held hostage?

It's easy to talk tough. It's the easiest thing in the world. It's another matter altogether when you have to untangle the innocent people who have already been suffering and terrified for weeks, many of whom witnessed their families being tortured, raped and murdered.

Where are these hostages being held? Do you know? Then again, it doesn't really matter, does it? You guys talk tough about flattening Gaza entirely, so those hostages would be killed no matter what.

C'mon, tough guys- just come out with it. Be honest and state plainly that you don't give a shit about all those hostages. You don't care whether they live or die. You don't care about their suffering. You don't care about the sliver of hope some of them have to be rescued.

Just get on with it and say it. I'm sick and tired of all the tough talk from people who don't have any skin in the game.

Here ya go, tough guys. Just let 'em die, huh? After all, it's a mistake for Israel to negotiate to save the lives of these innocent people, isn't it?

Just make another tough declaration, as if solving this problem is as simple as opening your mouth.

This video by Simon Whistler I found to be a pretty down the middle history of Israel and Palestine. It's about as unbiased as a subject like this can be I believe. It is also as comprehensive as one can be in only a two hour video. Yes it's two hours long, but I've come to learn that it easily could've been 10 hours long.

I wonder of Israel will silence the horror stories that will come from the hostages.
If the IDF hears how badly they were treated, I fear there will be no more prisoners.

The leftists will just declare that the testimony from the hostages is all lies.
Because the American leftists are just plain shit.

White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk said that the White House supports “humanitarian pauses irrespective of a hostage deal” but President Joe Biden realized the only way to get a humanitarian pause was to have an agreement to bring hostages home.

While their people languish in poverty and are treated as human shields, the leaders of Hamas live billionaire lifestyles.

The terror group’s three top leaders alone are worth a staggering total of $11 billion and enjoy a life of luxury in the sanctuary of the emirate of Qatar.

The emirate has long welcomed the leaders of the terror group and installed them in its luxury hotels and villas at the same time as it hosts a vast American military presence.

The terrorist group, which is responsible for the antisemitic Oct. 7 massacre of more than 1,400 innocent civilians and soldiers in southern Israel, continues to hold over 200 hostages in Gaza.

Hamas runs an office in Qatar’s capital, Doha, and leaders Ismail Haniyeh, Moussa Abu Marzuk and Khaled Mashal maintain a luxurious lifestyle.
