How we all experience a given recoil impulse, is of course subjective. (I know there is science behind the impulse energy just speaking of how we experience it as an individual)

With the above said I’ve found the thin Glocks 43x/48 (I’ve never actually shot a 43) to be the most pleasant of all the current “big players” ala Shield Plus, Hellcat, P365. Subjectively I’d probably rank the Hellcat/Pro——P365(X/XL)——-Shield Plus——- G43X———G48 from worst impulse to best for me personally. Now I don’t find a DRAMATIC difference across the board but that’s my general take on them.

Yes indeed, that is why it's important for each of us to shoot the gun(s) for ourselves instead of relying on what someone else says about their experience shooting the gun(s).

The only opinion on how a gun shoots/handles that I rely on is my own. So, if I am interested in a particular gun, I will rent the gun, borrow the gun, or buy it and try it (if it works great, if not - sell/trade it off and get something else).

No right or wrong, just different people shooting different guns. For me, all micro 9s shoot pretty much the same, like small little guns; something that I don't care for. So, I stick with my 19s (currently my WCV Gen 5 19s) for my shooting/carry needs. But I have friends who do like the micro 9s for their needs.

Good to have choices, and we do have lots of good choices available to us nowadays.

I took my G48 out this morning to test the TL7 Sub on it. I don't plan on carrying it with the light but this gun was bought specifically to be a 50 state jack of all trades gun and there will be times I want a light on it. It is RARE that I say I love a Glock. I mean I like them. I respect the hell out of them, I own them but love them.....meh. The G45 comes close but damn if I don't love the Glock 48. Does everything I want and does it far better than I had hoped.

Todays testing. (Testing, evaluation etc. all sound so much nicer and more adult then I went out to play with my Glock 48 today don't you think? )

My Glock inventory (thanks, SF) now numbers the 19, 43, 29 and 48. My favorite is the 48.

Jones, you know how young people are these days, they just can't take it like my generation.

Have you seen any parts breakage or reliability issues with the 43x and 48? From my experience and the feedback I'm getting, they run like tops and have been extremely durable.

No parts breakage. I have what I guess to be a bad mag. It’s relatively new but I have FTF from time to time with it.

I loved my Glocks but never named them. At the height of my fancy, I owned every model 9mm Glock on the market, including the special long-barrel jobs.
What is most interesting to me..is that I wrote Gaston and asked him to build a 9mm gun with a single-stack mag. It's shocking how long I had to wait for the model 43, but I love it.

I found this interesting, you may not.
With the talk of emailing asking Glock for the manufacture dates I thought I'd give it a shot.

I was pretty close..

My daughter will end up with the 1994 G19 and G17 pistols, that was the year she was born.
Son will get the 1990 G17, the year he was born.
He will also get the G45, it has his initials in the serial number...

Local Dunhams had a G5 non MOS 19 on sale for $575 so I jumped, mainly to have the G5 experience.
Bonus: Came with 3 mags!

I have the full symptoms of Glockitis now. Wandered into the LGS and there was a mint condition Gen 4 G21. Possibly unfired and made in 2013. Frame is marked "MBS". This marking was discontinued in 2015.
So now I have 12 year old G21.

My Gen 2 G21 was made in 1991.
It shoots like a 22 pistol, ker-plunk, ker-plunk, ker-plunk....
Had CCR apply CPII to the slide and barrel years ago.
It's my favorite, and only, 45.

I had a Glock 20 about 10 years ago. It was OK but nothing special, so I moved on. H&K, SIG SA and a few others work better for me.

I'm enjoying all the comments about the 43X. I think it's a fantastic firearm. I like the overall size and capacity with the PSA mags-but didn't really care for the Shield mags.

The 43 is almost perfect, the way it feels and shoots, but the low mag capacity led me to carry two extra mags, which, IMO, is a bit of a load for shorts and T shirts.

If there’s a single Glock to own, the G48 is it in my book, and I own one as well. Especially with some Shield Arms extended mags.

I bought my second Gen5 17L last month. I do not remember whether I posted here, when I bought my first Gen5 17L, last year. I like the way the 17L balances, much like a 4” medium-frame revolver. Notably, a 17L is in the general size envelope of a 4” S&W K-Frame or L-Frame, so, can be toted with equal freedom, in an OWB holster.

Age and arthritis contributed to my adding long Glocks. I already considered the standard Glock 17 to be my “orthopedic” pistol, due to the low bore axis, compared to the SIG P229, the polymer frame, and 9mm, compared to the .40 S&W. (I transitioned duty pistols, in October 2015, shortly after my then-chief OK’ed 9mm to again be an approved duty cartridge.) Then, in March 2024, I had to stop most DA trigger-pulling training, sidelining my medium- and large-frame DA revolvers and my DA/SA pistols. (My one remaining SIG, my DAK P229R has been sidelined since 2015, due to its high bore axis, stiff aluminum allow frame, .40 S&W chambering, and grip back-strap shape that simply became bad for my aging right hand.)

I dumped my Gen2 Glock 23, then when shopping for a new 45acp during the Clinton mag ban I selected a G36 over a P245. That turned out to be a massive mistake as I had a catastrophic failure with the G36. I had been carrying it for months and decided to rotate my carry ammo at the range. Locked up after the first shot and needed to be broken apart with a hammer with a loaded chamber by a gunsmith. The recoil spring jumped the captive guide rod and I never felt comfortable with it after that. I rectified the first mistake by trading that in on a P220ST that I still own.

Then, thanks to Sigforum I bought a Gen 4 G19 which has about 4K rounds through it. It never malfunctioned but is one of the brass to the face guns. I worked with Glock and have replaced pretty much everything inside the gun and took it from 4 out of 10 to the face to 1 of 100. In the end, an apex extractor did more to fix it than anything Glock exchanged. The ghost trigger is so sweet I couldn’t let it go. It was eventually confiscated by my adult son and I was Glock free again.

Then the Gen 5s came out and I decided to grab an early 17. Liked that so much I decided to get an early 19. Liked that I decided I wanted to try a pistol with a red dot and added a 17MOS. Struggled on the dot, but while taking a training class with the 17 having the 17MOS on hand as a backup the whole concept of shooting with a red dot was explained to me. I took to the range to master the 17MOS and did so. That’s when I decided a Gen5 G34 might be nice to have and acquired that which eventually became my HD pistol. So now after swearing off Glocks not once but twice I have the following Gen5s, 17, 17MOS, 19, 19MOS, 34MOS, and a Shadow Systems MR920 Combat (optic ready). In addition, I would say I shoot 60 percent of my training round on one of those Glocks with the majority of the rest split between the P365, MK25, or CZ PCR. I do feel like the Glock trigger once mastered is a great training trigger. I have definitely gone to the dark side.
