Going out west later this year, so I wanted to take something along with higher capacity and similar or better power than my usual Yooper bush gun, the GP-100. I bought a G29SF. Then embarked on the usual (for me) Glock improvement program: Ameriglow night sights. Extended OEM Glock slide release. NDZ Slide Racker. Pearce Grip Plug Pearce pinky rest magazine base plates for the 10 round mags. 2 15 round magazines with grip adapters. I have shot the G20 quite a bit but did not know how the smaller gun would shoot for me so I bought some bulk 10mm from Lucky Gunner. And was not impressed with it. It is filthy stuff and my fingers were black after loading the mags. So, off to the range I went with no expectations. 250 rounds later, even with the nasty ammo, it turns out the G29 is my most accurate Glock! One ragged hole at 15 yards. Recoil is very tolerable even with hotter Underwood ammo. And will it shoot .40S&W? It does! But you have to deal with brass to face extraction. Only complaint is Glock did not bother to properly fit the trigger safety and this created a hot spot on my trigger finger. So a PolyDat trigger is now on order. The G29 is a keeper! ^^^ I enjoy Lenny's videos and am glad to see Glock coming out with these. The price of the slide with the slide parts is actually not bad price wise, ( sub $300 ), as the factory slide parts alone now sell for $80+, from what I have seen. Granted there are cheaper kits but I don't want to chance cheaper parts with my life. I wish, from my ocd standpoint, that Glock did not serialize the slides as to not match your barrel/frame but I understand why they did. Trying to keep a tally of what slides are made/used and if they have any issues with them if not also for legal reasons.

Frangas non Flectes![]() |
![]() I've been eyeballing the used case at the local lately. They had a used Gen 5 17 a few weeks ago for $415 that didn't last long. They have a couple other used 17's as well - a fairly clean Gen 3 and a pretty rough Gen 4, both for around $400. Walked in today, and this was next to them. If it has more than a few magazines through it, I'd be amazed. There's exactly one polymid with a ding on it, and I can't find another mark anywhere. It's basically brand new. For the price, I couldn't pass it up. Headed out to the desert with the guys tomorrow, so it'll get a bit of a workout. That new Gen 3 slide they're selling as a standalone is a surprise to me. Basically everything is made for Gen 3 Glocks, it's a brilliant move. If Ruger offers the RXM module for sale by itself, you could pair one of those with whatever Magpul frame and throw a Gen 3 Glock slide on top and basically a la carte your red dot gun. That, or a P80 or printed frame and you're off and running. ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

I'm getting ready to install extended slide stops on my Gen 5's, it looks easy enough, but I don't have any punches. Anybody know what size I'll need for the trigger pin when I go to Menards? -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

For real?![]() |
I think Glock's pin size is 3/32. Not minority enough!

Punches? You don't got no punches? How does a man get to your advanced age without any STEENKING PUNCHES?? ![]() Get yourself a 3/32" punch which will do everything you need. A 3/32" punch is the right size to get the trigger housing pin pushed out, if ever you take the trigger mechanism housing out. It's also the correct size punch to remove locking block pins, although your gen5 doesn't have that pin. You're not going to be hammering out that trigger pin. If you go pounding on it, you'll bend the inner diameter of the slide stop hole. As you push in on the trigger pin from the left side of the frame, push down on the slide stop- the part of it that is inside the frame. The trigger pin is notched to catch the slide stop. Pushing it down as you push in on the trigger pin with your punch, you should quickly get things aligned so that you can push the pin out. When putting the trigger pin back in, same thing- no hammering should be necessary, just some wiggling things around. After you've done it once or twice, it will become easy for you.

Fighting the good fight![]() |
Correct, but you don't need a dedicated punch. It's not a tight fit, and it doesn't involve using a hammer and punch like some other gun pins. The trigger pin is held in place by the slide stop interacting with notches on the trigger pin, not by a tight friction fit between the frame and the pin. So you can use any small pushing tool. Even a ballpoint pen. Just wiggle the slide stop up and down while putting pressure on the trigger pin using whatever tool, and it should start to move fairly easily. And when reinstalling, you can push it back in by hand.

Let the man buy a punch just once in his life. You can't perform complete disassembly of a Glock with a ballpoint pen. For years, the only officially recommended Glock tool was a 3/32" punch. There's a reason for that. It's also the correct tool to depress the firing pin spacer sleeve in order to remove the slide cover plate, which is necessary to disassemble the slide.

Yes, it's been a lifetime goal which I can now attain! ![]() Thanks, everybody. I'll get a 3/32", though I bet they're sold in sets, but at least I'll have some for my cat to play with. Para, I watched a couple videos on it, primarily one done by Lenny at Glock Store, and your trick of pushing down on the slide stop was suggested by someone who also viewed the vid. Like at least one other vid Lenny did (magazine base plate removal) he seem to like force over finesse. As usual, Sigforum has the best answers. I'll share results in a few days, and again, thanks to everybody! -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Thanks, CPD SIG, but I'm checking some sight installation/adjustment kits on Amazon in the $30 range which include the front sight tool, so the punch may be all I need. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18
