While not officially a Glock, I do appreciate the differences in what Shadow Systems offers in their design/guns. I had a Glock 26X and really liked the overall package but the frame felt too big in my hands and sadly I wound up selling it. It felt fatter than my G19 gen 3. My S.S. MR920, which is Glock 19 sized, has a slimmer grip than the 19 or 26x, a flatter trigger and built in beaver tail really helps me with handling of the gun. I had a CR920 War Poet and it was a great little pistol but was a little too small for me but is a fantastic gun.

The Glock 19 pistol is one I don't think will ever go out of style or preference, as it still offers a lot in a compact package and lighter weight, whichever configuration it is in.

And I was right. The RXM version of the Glock 17 is just sick! Fits my hand better than any Glock and feels sweet! $461 from Bass Pro.

You can see how on my duty gun (grip work by Cold Bore Customs) that my finger fits kind of perfect while the gen6 seems too deep so it rubs against the top of my finger.

I don't like the feel of the Gen 6 Glocks. The balance is not right for me. So I think my two Gen 5s are going to be it. Ruger will get around to making other caliber RXMs. I'd totally buy one in 10mm.

Well, I’ve “unGlocked” my Glock. The GritGrips 43x frame finally showed up at my dealer yesterday and I braved the rain for an hour or so to go shoot it.

Essentially what you get is most of the ergonomic improvements of the Gen 6 in a slimline. The texture extends higher than it does on the factory frame, and it’s much more aggressive. There’s a slightly more pronounced beavertail, and a checkered thumbrest/”gas pedal” a-la the Gen 6. There is no palm swell. I bought mine as just a stripped frame and transferred the Glock internals over, but you can also buy them pre-assembled with Glock factory internals and eventually there will be an option with GritGrips’s own aftermarket internals.



The texture is the most significant improvement, and it’s well worth the price for this alone. These are snappy little guns with not a lot of surface area to hold on to, and that extra “grit” really keeps the gun anchored in your hand (especially when it’s wet!). It feels more confidence inspiring the second you pick it up, and it plays out on target and on the clock. Their proprietary texture design works really well at providing traction without being excessively “sticky” or abrasive when you’re carrying it, too. Their marketing lives up to the hype in that respect for sure.

The thumb rest/”gas pedal” is a nice thought, and it feels good when you first establish your grip, but I had a hard time keeping my thumb indexed against it under recoil, so I’m not sure how much difference it actually makes.

The grip angle difference is visible, barely, but not enough to be a game changer. I still find myself having to drive the nose down to acquire the dot after the draw. Maybe not as much as I did with the factory grip, and it’s certainly something that can be trained into, but it’s not going to give me the completely seamless transition back and forth with my Sigs that I was hoping for.



Holster fit is compatible with the factory frame. Admittedly it’s only a sample-size of one, but my homemade molded kydex holster that I made with the factory frame fits the gun perfectly with the GritGrips frame installed.



Fit and finish is perfect, and I have no reason to believe this won’t be equally durable to a Glock factory frame. I put about 200 rounds through it yesterday without a single hiccup, and will definitely be shooting it a lot more over the next few weeks,

Overall I’m happy. It doesn’t give me every little detail I was hoping for, but with a little work I can train to it, and it makes this little gun a lot easier to control which is the most important thing. You could probably get 75-80% of what this provides with a stipple job on your factory frame, but it’s not going took as good, the texture will be less comfortable for carry, and you’ll have permanently devalued your factory frame. Sending your frame out for a professional stipple job will also likely cost more than the ~$70 they are charging for these.

Maybe Glock will eventually release a Gen6 variant of the slimlines that renders this thing redundant, but for now it’s a nice upgrade that really makes the gun nicer to use. Add to that the impending release of factory 15 rounders and I’m really digging my little 43X!

I received an approval email a few minutes after receiving the initial order confirmation email.

I hope it means we’ll get ours from the first batch that arrives.

One thing I would like to comment on regarding the slightly added length of these new magazines. If Glock/Mec-Gar felt it was needed for reliability or because they wanted a 15 round magazine that didn't require that last round to be crammed in, I'm ok with that.
Fully loading some new magazines is nearly impossible. I'm not that hung up on losing a round or two if it means my pistol is more reliable. I would have been perfectly happy if these only held 13/14 rounds and flush fitting.

Has anyone looked at PSA Dagger mags for the 43/48? Hybrid metal/polymer magazine = Dagger.

There are some reports of the polymer coming off the metal near the feed lips.

I had some issues with first run PSA mags where the baseplates were bowing out when loaded. They seemed to have fixed that issue with the newer baseplates.

What's the latest on the Mec-Gar 18/20 round metal mags for the 17/45?

Early reports were lukewarm with some reports of issues with the mags dropping out while firing.

Have they worked the kinks out yet? They're competitively priced with factory mags, especially if factoring in the added cost of an additional OEM +2 extension and replacement spring, but I'm not interested in mags that aren't reliable...
