Fox News' site didn't state what the actual indictment was. Therefore, I googled it and read an interesting article on a liberal website about the indictments. Once I got past all of the liberal nonsense, the part that jumped out at me about the indictment is that the statute of limitations has passed, but the Manhatten DA is arguing the statue of limitations was suspended while Trump was in office.
quote:
blah, blah, blah

The first issue that Bragg has is time. Trump committed the underlying campaign finance offense in 2016, and the statute of limitations on bookkeeping fraud and campaign finance violations is five years. That brings you to 2021. The statute of limitations for tax evasion is three years. Even if you don’t start the clock on that until the story breaks in the news in 2018, that brings you, once again, to 2021. To get to 2023, Bragg appears to be arguing that the statute of limitations paused while Trump was president and living out of state. That’s… a theory, but not necessarily a good one, and certainly not one that has been tested enough to know how it’s going to hold up in the courts.

blah, blah, blah

They obviously voted to indict before the one month break.

Yes, it would appear so.

DeSantis Responds to Indictment of President Trump

Moments after former President Donald Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, Gov. Ron DeSantis has denounced the prosecution and indictment, calling it "un-American."

"The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American. The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent. Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda," stated Gov. Ron DeSantis

Gov. DeSantis recently said that he would not get involved in the case, but appears to have changed his position with this statement.

"The NY Grand jury’s decision to indict Fmr Pres Trump is yet again another example of the Dems weaponization of our Justice system. The Soros backed NY DA Alvin Bragg is trying to escalate a case other courts would not even take up. The accused misdemeanor was also increased to felony charge by the DA and first time in history a Fmr U.S. President has ever been indicted.

This is clearly an attempt to intimidate Pres. Trump and influence the upcoming 2024 elections. The accusation regarding “hush money” should have been cut dry when Stormy Daniels herself signed a letter admitting no such transaction took place.

This is a clear witch hunt to distract and help a failing Biden in his attempt to remain in the Oval Office," stated Rep. Cory Mills.

I am beyond angry at what I see going on against Trump and the unbelievable incompetence we see from Biden. I am just dumb founded. So sad the rest of the country doesn’t see this.

Much of the country does see it. The important thing right now is to remain calm and let's see how this plays out.

Believe me- I'm thoroughly disgusted, but I'm not going to give the leftist garbage any satisfaction. My feeling is that this shameful act will not produce the effect they desire.

I agree 100% and feel this will blow up in their face as it should. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Bragg will draw this out, when Trump is arraigned at 60 Centre Street, he will push for the longest date possible to respond to Trump's motion to dismiss for either statute of limitations or lack of probable cause or insufficient evidence. The NYS court is a Democratic cesspool, the random assignment of a session or "Part" as it is called will likely not be a sympathetic jurist for the Trump camp, a Supreme Court (NYS Trial Court) Justice will probably affirm the indictment and kick it down the road for Trumps lawyers to take it to the Court of Appeals. Average time frame is in 180 to 240 days. Thankfully the bail reform in NYS will prohibit Bragg asking for detention or bail, and a Judge being able to do so. Trump may be able to take an immediate appeal to a single justice of the Court of Appeals, possibly. As a criminal trial attorney this is ludicrous. There is also a separation of powers issue the crimes Bragg is trying to prosecute has been passed over by the DOJ.

Famed Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz has called for Donald Trump's hush money trial to be moved from Manhattan to the Republican enclave of Staten Island, arguing that Manhattan is so staunchly Democrat a fair trial is impossible.

Dershowitz's argument was echoed by Trump himself, who wrote on Truth Social on Thursday night: 'They only brought this Fake, Corrupt, and Disgraceful Charge against me because I stand with the American People, and they know that I cannot get a fair trial in New York!'

Trump was born in New York City, but is widely disliked in his hometown and has moved his official residence to Florida.

'There is no possibility he will get a fair trial in Manhattan,' said Dershowitz, who represented Trump in his first Senate impeachment trial, over pressuring Ukraine for 'dirt' on Joe Biden. …”

He should do the fake "AOC in handcuffs" impression. Really sell it, then pop his hands out, and in that perfect Donald Trump voice, "gotcha, bitch!"

Just a thought… are we talking misdemeanors or felonies?

Trump no longer lives in NY, would any warrant issued even be extraditable? Stay in Florida and tell them to pound sand.

Out-of-Control DA Bragg Just Elected Trump as 47th President

My immediate reaction on hearing that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg maneuvered the indictment of Donald Trump in the “hush money” case surrounding Stormy Daniels was that the out-of-control Bragg had just elected Trump as the 47th president of the United States.

My second thought was the fear that he may have instigated a civil war.

But I’ll go with my immediate reaction. It’s better for all of us.

As the Zen Buddhists say, “First thought, best thought.”

Law professor Jonathan Turley is already calling the indictment “legally pathetic,” and that’s about the size of it. You don’t have to be a professor to figure that out.

6guns that's exactly right. The Dim's overreaching, even just in NY, just secured Trump's second term. It validates what he said about being a proxy target for the voters. The swamp is after him. We are absolutely sick of their bullshit and I can't wait for him to destroy the swamp this time around.

Tucker Carlson frames the context of the accusations against President Donald Trump and then interviews one of President Trump’s civil attorneys Alina Habba.

While Ms. Habba is not a criminal attorney for President Trump she notes the legal ramifications to the justice system from a radical leftist District Attorney running amuck.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
