Well, I slept until 10am. Feeling like a human being again. Took Zyrtec and my temp was 97.8 this morning. Chills are gone. Don't know what I was fighting or if it was just allergies. Still no cough and no sore throat.

I texted the wife, who's working at the hospital, and she was relieved. Her co-workers are dropping left and right waiting for their test results.

I'll post more updates from her hospital as she gives me status reports.

We're all filling ourselves with vitamin C, zinc and probiotics to do what we can to strengthen our immune systems.

Tony.

Good thing that won't be a problem here. Oh wait...

....

That was the last day Disney was open. Notice the date: 3/15. It's been closed for 5 days now.

Tony.

I am well aware, but that was still WELL after all the social distancing and stay at home recommendations.

It is a very apt comparison depending on the burden of disease. Washington State is facing such a crisis and is planning for that eventuality.

Who lives and who dies?

It’s been mentioned before but 99% of the Italian deaths had preexisting health problems, the percentage of smokers in Italy is almost double the US, they’ve had an influx of a lot of Chinese nationals in the last several years.

I’ll say this: If you smoke, the time to shed that habit would be right about now.

It that were the case all the people that have tested positive would be dead. Most people have no symptoms or mild symptoms and then are fine.

Settle down.

I’m settled...who said I wasn’t.

It’s all of you screaming about the situation being out of control that need to settle.

This is the reality. States are closing. shit is closed. And it’s not going to change.

So you “settle” and deal with it. I’m fine...

This is kinda cool: Just got a text message from T-Mobile that they're upgrading me to unlimited data until 05/13 (~two months) at no additional charge Smile

Not that I need it. I rarely approach my 2GB limit as it is. But it's cool.

the synopsis is : a virus came and we got scared and went home and hid

we need TARGETED efforts -- not mass closures, mass isolation, etc

I'll use a SIG analogy, since this is SIGforum.  You're standing on the trail, your .40 S&W P229 on your hip (yeah, I'd have picked something else in grizzly country too).  Around the next bend, a large grizzly appears.  Could be a male, could be a female, could be a mad momma guarding cubs, could be a big yearling out for a stroll.  You can't tell.  It sees you, and starts a moderate shamble toward you.  Not particularly threatening, not particularly fast, and it doesn't look particularly mad.  But close, and getting closer. What you don't know, is that it just attacked and killed, and partially ate a couple of hikers further down the trail.  Or maybe it didn't.

You could jump up and down and yell, and maybe confuse it, and then take off down the trail to your Jeep, close by, and you might make it.  Or it might turn or take off, and nobody gets hurt.  You know if you shoot it, you might just piss it off, .40 S&W being what it is and all, and it will rip your legs off before it eats you, too.  Or you might be able to empty a magazine in its head and kill it (you're a pretty good shot), or at least mightily discourage it so it doesn't rip your legs off and just gives you a swat in passing.  You only have a few seconds, and only time for one option.

As your spirit rises above the trees and looks down at your mangled corpse being consumed, you fleetingly think, "If I had only made the other choice...."

You've got to ask yourself a question: 'do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?

The virus is here. The threat is here. Fortunately, the greatest threat of death is limited to a relatively small percentage of the population (the elderly with pre-existing serious illnesses)), but our nation is not the sort to collectively shrug our shoulders and say we're willing to write off our siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, business associates, and neighbors, because we want to continue life as it was out of convenience.

We could have submitted to the Axis powers in WWII or the communists during the cold war. We could have submitted to those who demanded we accept the tenants of radical Islamic fundamentalism. We didn't surrender, we fought. Now our real enemy is a fucking microbe. We need to recognize that and do what we need to do to defeat it. While some of the members here are at higher risk than others, we all have loved ones that will be lost unless we stick together to fight this threat in every manner we can. I hope to God we have the collective will to do so. If we don't, the permanent collapse of our nation and way of life may very well be the result.

My community has it's first confirmed case. Female, 20-30 y/o. The announcement was made to shelter in place for two weeks. Grocery store, gas, pharmacy are permitted. I'm not quite sure how they will enforce it. I work from home and am well supplied. My concern is that I am 5 blocks form the "other side of the tracks". We will see how this shakes out.

The wife is Italian, so we have enough food in this house to last months, no joke.

On the bright side, I got a few cases of Studweiser and some vino delivered today. That was pretty cool.

Yah, we need to control the spread until we can apply targeted measures. Remember, this is occurring at different times in all states. Some states got a head start in their efforts. And then I hear news conferences today what I heard in my state a week ago. If we had done on 3/1 what we're doing today. Savvy.

^^^^. One could also make the argument that this shelter in place bullshit is just drawing out the spread of the virus.
