Okay Bald1, South Dakota is one of the very few states I haven’t been to in the U.S. I swear though that if I ever make it there, I will show up at you door with a knife and fork in each hand with a napkin around my neck!!! Big Grin

The Traeger saga continues with my son at the helm.

This weekend it was the "poor man's brisket." A >4 lb boneless chuck roast and damn it was tasty. Used this approach: https://youtu.be/yp4SGCv-QYA

A friend of my son wants the Traeger BBQ07E we've been using, so we're going to upgrade to a 34Pro which gives us a lot more grill space. Big Grin

Looks delicious, please tell me more about the recipe.

Today, I left 15 bean soup in the crock pot for my wife and daughter, using a Honeybaked ham bone (they sell them by themselves at the stores, great deal, still with tons of meat). Now, home after work at MN, the smell is permeating the house and making me very hungry!

Tonight I made a healthy salad. Hard to see everything in the picture; I should have put it on a plate. It is super greens salad mix, sweet potato, beets, cut up leftover bbq chicken thighs, pumpkin seeds, feta cheese, broccoli, croutons, and basalmic vinaigrette dressing. It was really good!

Tortilla chips (touch of lime), and dip.

The dip was leftover taco beef, homemade refried beans (black and pinto), Mexican cheese mixture, salsa, black olive, tomatoes, chopped green chilies, guacamole.

A dish I don't think has ever been posted here with a picture. (Back in 2017 I mentioned having eaten some leftover cold but no pix.) Big Grin

Southern Fried Cabbage

My son and I love this and have been enjoying it for over 4 decades.

Tonight was 1/2 lb bacon (about half of the grease drained off). 3/4 head cabbage. Couple tablespoons of sauteed onion + one minced garlic clove. Pinch of salt, 2 pats of butter, good shake or three of smoked paprika, and a tablespoon + of Worcestershire sauce. Cabbage is "al dente." Really quite tasty. Sometimes we'll add additional protein too. Smile

Enjoyed mine with some 1919 root beer Big Grin

Bald1 that looks REALLY good and I want to try it! There is a cabbage recipe I love to make often and goes good with anything.

Shredded Sautéed Cabbage

The vegetable retains some texture and has none of that sulfury taste and mushiness of cabbage that has been improperly cooked. This also makes a great breakfast when served with fried eggs on top.

Ingredients

4 ½ teaspoons vegetable oil

1 medium onion, sliced

1 tomato, chopped

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and minced (optional)

¼ teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes

1 small head of green cabbage, cored and thinly sliced (about 10 cups)

1 ½ teaspoons coarse salt, plus more for serving

Directions

Heat a 14-inch skillet over medium-high heat, and then add the oil and onion. Saute to soften the onion slightly, about 2 minutes. Stir in the tomato, ginger if using, and red-pepper flakes. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Add the cabbage and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt. Stir to combine. Cover, and reduce the heat to medium low. Cook, stirring occasionally as the cabbage begins to collapse. Add a little water, 2 tablespoons at a time, as needed if the cabbage becomes too dry. (This depends on the moisture level of the cabbage. You don't want it too wet.) Cook for approximately 13 minutes, or until the cabbage is just tender. Salt to taste and serve.

Mike,

Your recipe looks great and a lot like what we make here. Biggest difference is the protein we use. Added sausage is also common. Spices vary as well although I don't recall ever seeing / hearing of ginger being used in any variant of fried bacon-cabbage. Might have to give that a try. Smile

And yes, we've had it as a side as well as main dish. Dinner, lunch, breakfast...doesn't matter. All good! Big Grin

[ As an aside the mailman screwed up and delivery will be tomorrow rather than the expected today. Wink ]

There is also a recipe I make called “Egg Roll in a Bowl” that is really good! I have a printed out version of it, but can’t seem to find the one I have online again. All the results I saw come up for that name look good. Most include ground turkey or pork.
