Speaking of the culture wars, the DC Enquirer ran a story yesterday headlined, “The Bud Light Effect: Coca-Cola Shareholders Reject Going Woke In Fear Of Going Broke.”

The Enquirer reported that Coca-Cola shareholders recently met and voted against a proposal that the beverage giant should investigate how state laws restricting abortion might impact the company’s business performance in those states.

Specifically, the shareholder proposal stated, “Shareholders request that Coca-Cola’s Board of Directors issue a public report prior to December 31, 2023, omitting confidential information and at a reasonable expense, detailing any known and potential risk or costs to the company caused by enacted or proposed state policies severely restricting reproductive rights, and detailing any strategies beyond litigation and legal compliance that the company may deploy to minimize or mitigate these risk.”

In other words, the proposal was suggesting that the cola behemoth should boycott states with strong abortion restrictions. But the shareholders conclusively voted the woke proposal down, with an overwhelming 87% of shares voting against.

The Coca-Cola vote came in the wake of the Bud Light controversy, and Anheuser-Busch’s president recently trying to walk back the brand’s connection to the female impersonator Dylan Mulvaney.

https://twitter.com/NewsNation.../1654275860449443840

But even that tepid, half-hearted distancing from the Mulvany meltdown triggered LGBTQIA+ people, who began to organize their own boycott of the brand.

The good news is that Bud Light is, in fact, bringing people together, just not over a Bud Light. The brand may never recover from its colossal, business-school project hangover.

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

That Bud Light commercial from 1995 is a prime example of why Bud Light's marketing was so effective. It was funny. It was memorable. It made me want to shoot pool and have a Bud Light.

FFS are they making beer to sell it or to pander to minorities while shitting on their loyal customers? It's absolutely mind blowing how Bud Light has made every wrong decision from the get go and along the way.

I swear to god.... what is it going to take to get companies to realize that trying to become political will do nothing but piss off at least half of your customers.

What possible connection is there between a beverage and abortion?

Should Blue Bunny stop selling ice cream in states that don't ban assault weapons next?

Should Kraft Heinz stop selling condiments in states that ban defecating in public places and sleeping on sidewalks?

Who is running these companies? At least Coca Cola was smart enough to listen to shareholders.

Doesn't seem like it should take a degree in rocket surgery to figure this one out, does it? <smh>

Talk about a clusterfuck. So Bud Light pissed off their loyal customers to appease the trans community and now because they are backtracking the LGABCXYZ community is boycotting them for not sticking to their guns. Talk about getting double fucked...

Do these companies seriously not have anyone in risk-analysis? I'll bet they have a huge payroll for it. So the real question is, where is the report for engaging new brand ambassadors?

If due diligence wasn't done, that whole department should be GONE, because this should have been obvious from a mile away, and the department is either too oblivious or spineless to perform their duties to protect the company.

My popcorn's ready, and I don't even drink beer. I am glad that Coca-Cola wisely decided to avoid this nonsense.

Considering the group involved this is a little mind boggling.

Would that be a reach around in this situation or truly double as you said?

A train wreck?

So hard to tell with these folks...

PLEASE no one answer this!! Wink

All those indoctrinated kids are now in positions in companies to connect virtue signals with profession.

Our generation kept politics separate from business. This generation combines the two.

And if due diligence was NOT done, the CEO should be gone. I mean, that's their job. To keep the ship off the rocks. And I for one don't for a second buy that BS the execs had no knowledge this campaign was going out. You can't tell me a new campaign was starting during March Madness and the senior execs didn't get a preview. That's a major event. If the senior execs didn't get a preview, the CEO should have been gone well before the woke marketing Einstein hit the door. If the senior execs DID in fact get a preview, any that didn't object should be gone, right after the CEO.

Glorious, it was inevitable that AB would be targeted, and they knew it, it's why we didn't see that apology/retraction for the insults to their customer base.

That the Coke shareholders voted wokeness down is important, hopefully that resonates in board rooms across the globe... That the downside risk of associating with the movement and insulting your customers can be costly.
