It's been a while since I've added anything to this thread. I took a bit of a break from heavy music and was mostly listening to synth and electronic stuff for a bit, but lately I've been delving back in. I've run across some stuff that I find compelling.

These guys, I ran across yesterday on a random playlist. It's... really different. Classic gothic kind of vibes in places and heavy, djenty type stuff in others. Then some wild synth stuff, world music with traditional horns and drums, funk bass, and classical guitar. It's like Mr. Bungle meets Dillinger Escape Plan meets Gojira meets meth and LSD. These guys are flexing their technical prowess like crazy, and honestly, I'm there for it. The first two tracks are pure bait for the more traditional metal crowd, it takes a hard left turn and then turns into a bit of a rollercoaster.

A couple quick sample clips and then the album:

Looks like another band the female singer is in. This stuff is pretty good, too.

Anyways, I found them after being introduced to this track. These guys are heavy, and their vocalist is like Will Ramos crossed with Charles Bronson. The Englishman, not the American. This track pounds.

Which led me to these guys:

I didn't know until recently that mid-late 2000's hardcore is now called "crabcore" and has been enjoying a bit of a resurgence. Why is it called "crabcore?" No idea. Think stuff like Asking Alexandria, etc. Anyway, I'm digging it. This track in particular is pretty good.

Going a bit further with the electronic/synthy stuff, I just found this guy. Not sure if it's a group, or if it's a drummer who does synth stuff and offers feature spots to other musicians, but I kinda like it.

Guys, I hate to even ask in this thread, but, I figured if anyone could answer, it's the metal heads here.

There was a song, played quite a bit on SiriusXm Liquid Metal a year or so ago. It is a Mexican metal band, I believe Las Ladrones, or if not, in their style. It starts out very folksy, acoustic style mexican music, and on the choruses, gets heavier. I can kind of hear it in my head, but it is in Spanish, so can't give a direct translation. I remember awhile ago watching the video, and most of it was partying in a restaurant somewhere. I've looked on YouTube, and no luck. Perhaps someone here can help?

Thanks.

Mike

Sorry I am not going to be of any help with your query, bigpond.

Smudge, I'd guess that it's referred-to as "crabcore" because they look like crabs. Just look at them, in the thumbnail for the Traitors Among Us video.

I was briefly infatuated with Igorr in 2017(ish). The novelty wore off for me though, and they didn't carve out a spot in my long-term listening rotation.

I've been off the heavy stuff for a while now. Type O Negative is always in rotation, and I've been doing a bit of Peter Gabriel lately.

Kind of ironic that Smudge resurrected this thread, just yesterday, I was running errands with my iPhone on “shuffle all” and Breaking Benjamin came up. I was never a metalhead, but not that many years ago I worked out much harder than I do (can) now. I played a lot of hard rock.

These were my two favorite bands. I guess I don’t even know how they’re viewed by real “heavy music” aficionados.

I especially love Chevelle and have 6 of their albums, Wonder What’s Next is my favorite.

Been a while since I posted. Found a couple new (to me) bands I really like. Thought I'd share. Enjoy. Creeping Death (the band, not the Metallica song) and Gatecreeper.
