"Concerned" is where my wife and I are. The stuff we're giving up is minor. Now, were I still working, well, I'd keep working and just be extra conscientious. We haven't put up "KEEP OUT ON PAIN OF DEATH" signs around the property... yet 
I imagine they, and the CDC, feel they're obliged to report something, and feel they can hardly report something like "Well, it's probably <this> or <that>, but there's really no way for us to know at this point."
I'm not sure what to make of the reported CFRs. On the one hand I'm fairly confident the data set is incomplete, OTOH we don't know how incomplete. I do know the reported CFRs adjusted for age are quite concerning. Here we have the group of people sick enough to be hospitalized and the numbers for the populations of older and/or otherwise-compromised individuals are pretty poor. I don't know what to think of all these closings and cancellations and declarations of emergency. (For Christ's sake: Michigan's Gov. Whitmer declared a state of emergency when just two confirmed cases were reported!) On the one hand I can see the reasoning. OTOH they, at least some of them, seem a mite excessive. We live in Orlando and are pass holders to Disney World. I thought the same thing, so I logged onto the app today, a Thursday, at around 1pm to check wait times. Every good ride in multiple parks was a 1-2 hour wait. I about fell over when I saw they were that busy. | |||

I'll put this graphic back up again.  The situation in the most affected areas of Italy right now is that there are more critically ill patients that need ICU care than there physically is ICU space in the hospitals. They are in the area above the dotted line. That means that some people who need ICU care aren't getting it (and can't, and won't) and will have statistically worse outcomes than those who receive proper care (not to mention that those who need ICU care for reasons other than coronavirus may not be able to get it, either). That fact was used in this thread as a cute anti-socialist meme, but it is a legitimate concern that the same thing could happen here in the US, and the measures being taken now are in an effort to make sure that doesn't happen. Again, the point is not that there is a huge crisis in the United States RIGHT NOW... it is to try to prevent a crisis from occurring a month or two or three from now. | |||
