Put this in the FWIW column, but what you're seeing in Texas is a running political war between a Republican Governor, Abbot, who's careful but on the side of getting things going again, and a bunch of screeching little virtue signalers/Orangemanbadders in mayors' and county commissioners' offices in larger urban and generally Democrat areas. There are arguments to be made - civil liability has been known to drive cities here to turn in their charters and disincorporate, and far too many Texans see the courts as a more formal version of the lottery. But, as it's playing out, this really is a bunch of liberals in local government being drama queens for propaganda purposes.

I don't follow TX politics, my assumption has always been they are for individual freedom, but I do hear complaining about carpetbaggers from CA.

Well, if you get bored, look up some of the homegrown geniuses we've got in local government in San Antonio, Dallas and Houston. In large cities (as well as along the border) the old Democrat machine that used to run the state back in the days of Prohibition and the Great Depression is still alive, well and mutating on a daily basis. It's actually pretty entertaining as long as you don't actually live there. Where I live, of course, is a classic destination for the carpet baggers and they're doing the same thing just out of general orangemanbaddism.

Mystery as Chinese coronavirus researcher, 37, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is killed in murder-suicide while on verge of 'significant findings'
Police in suburban Pittsburgh believe Hao Gu, 46, shot and killed UPMC researcher Dr Bing Liu, 37, before turning the gun on himself
Gu was found dead of a self-inflicted wound inside his car parked 100 yards away from Liu's home in Ross Township, Pennsylvania
Cops said Liu and Gu knew each other, but would not say how
Liu was a research assistant professor in UPMC's Computational and Systems Biology Department
UPMC said Liu 'was on the verge of making very significant findings toward understanding the cellular mechanisms' of COVID-19

A well-respected University of Pittsburgh Medical Center researcher was said to have been on the verge of 'very significant findings' related to the coronavirus when police say he was killed in an apparent murder-suicide.

Dr Bing Liu, 37, was alone at his home in the 200 block of Elm Court in Ross Township on Saturday afternoon when another man - identified as 46-year-old Hao Gu - allegedly entered the residence through an unlocked door and opened fire.

Liu was struck by bullets in the head, neck and torso, and died of his injuries.

His wife was not home at the time of the homicide, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The couple do not have children.

Police said Gu then returned to his car parked 100 yards away at Charlemagne Circle and turned the gun on himself.

Likely find that Hao Gu had been working for years in virology/microbiology and the younger Dr. Bing Liu had been taking credit and advancing in stature/notoriety in recent times. Sort of like the "Sith" in "Star Wars". The younger stealing/usurping the older.

Only, the old guy gets tired of the crap and kills the up and coming...

Since it's all speculation, might as well toss it out there.

Heck, maybe Disney can make a movie...

Heres some interesting info.

US Patent # US,2006257852 a patent on Coronavirus. Issued to a company called Kyron who sold it to GlaxoSmithKline. Patent issued in November 2019.

Coincidentally there is a European Patent on a Coronavirus Vaccine. Patent # EP,3172319A1. Also approved in November 2019. Patent owned by Pirbright Institute. Which is a division of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

I found this interesting and having worked criminal investigations for 20 years, I don't believe in coincidence.

This information was originally found by a Dr. Rashid Buttar and included in one of his Youtube videos. Regards 18DAI

For instance, most of us might grumble at lockdowns but concede they’re rational if done appropriately. Few, however, would concede that an entire massive state needs the same lockdown requirements when only a cluster of urban counties constitute the majority of cases.

Yeah, most of these gummint folks saying "extend the shutdown" have likely never had to worry about making payroll, or a lease payment, or property tax payment, or...….needed to keep a business going. They're still getting paid. And with the loss of tons of sales tax revenue, I GUARANTEE that all of them who went for the hyper aggressive shutdowns will be demanding a tax hike to make up for it.

But some of the larger corporations are also getting stupid. Was on a call yesterday and our corporate office rolled out their recovery plan. I just sat there shaking my head, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Some of it was Whitmer level stupid.

There was a press conference held yesterday here that featured a number of the state economist and the governor with more charts and graphs and numbers. Only this time it was showing all the revenue lost by the state due to low levels of sales, gas, gambling taxes etc. being brought in.

Exactly what did they expect? This comes as a surprise to them? Governor Walz is good at telegraphing his punches. This was the warning shot letting us know what's coming. The same people he's been putting the boots to he's going to put the boots to again over the next few tax cycles.

I told the wife I bet our property tax will nearly double over the next two tax cycles. We are going to pay for this for a long time to come in more ways than one.

They will demand a tax increase otherwise they'll have to cut essential services like police and fire.

Who they gonna tax? The closed businesses? The unemployed people?

In 3 months the financial effects of shutting down the economy will start to take hold.

Here county pays for everything from property taxes. I just got my bill yesterday, big surprise, it went up. They previously had said they weren't going to raise the tax, so instead they just raised my assessed value. Net effect = higher tax bill.

On top of the inevitable local tax increases, everyone will also be begging for federal dollars.

De Blasio has even gone so far as to say that unless NYC gets federal money, he's not reopening the city.

Yep. Tax bills are going to be bigger. It will take a long time to recover from the economic damage caused by the shutdown. There will be fewer businesses and less sales tax revenue but instead of spending less money most local government entities will try to make up revenue short falls by sticking it to property owners.

I have been saying this was going to happen anyway as a result of e-commerce. I don't want to see a single Amazon customer complain.

Not only did e-commerce hurt the locals prior to this, but once the government shut everything local down so many people turned to online sources which will hammer us even more.

Before they raise my taxes, I'm going to demand that Amazon and similar gets their records subpoenaed. I want to see use tax audits with fines and interest collected from tax evaders before I pay a single cent in increased rates.
