Curious why that's a restriction given history, given that many people serve compulsorily, given that they are surrounded by people who would do them harm. What purpose does the restriction serve?

I'll admit I'm not well-versed in world politics, and then ask:
How does Egypt figure into this? What's Egypt's standard relationship with Israel? Is this event figured to be a rogue operation, or an expansion of Saturday's assault?

God bless America.

Israel is pretty much an all controlling entity of it's populace.
Think - communist. Yes it's communist. But they elect those who control them.

Communism was largely embraced by European Jews, a majority of American Jews vote democrat, and a disproportionate number of anti-gun activists are Jewish. It sadly isn’t a surprise how Israel treats its citizens.

At one time was it not compulsory for trained Israelis to carry their rifle with them? All young men and women went into the service for two years or so, and then were given a M-16 to have at all times. This is what I remember.

You are excessively taxed on everything there.
Normal people find a way around some taxes.
Automobiles have a 100%+ sales/value tax.
And cell phone plans are heavily taxed. So they use Whats App and the like to communicate.
Food isn't too expensive. Luxury items are heavily taxed too. I sold a watch to a friend of mine while I was there.

Today they did that.

Multiple different ways to acquire arms have been opened up by Israel earlier today.

You can essentially apply for a permit and unless you're a criminal, you will receive your permit. Under all scenarios, you'll be approved within a week and they've also increased the round count from 50 to 100.

100 rounds in a time of war to face your enemy seems low but it's better than 50.

How much good will a gun and 50-100 rounds do these unarmed civilians right now if they have to wait a week?

Kinda like when you need help now, the police are 15 minutes away...

The Yom Kippur War (50 years ago, October 6th) was a joint attack by several Arab states against Israel. It was led by Egypt an Syria with the claimed goal of taking back the Sinai Peninsula and Golan Heights from Israel. According to most Arab Muslims, Israel still "illegally" occupies the Gaza strip & sections of the Golan Heights.

It's no surprise that at this point, the number of people killed varies from source to source, but apparently, it's somewhere between 700 and 1100, with at least some Americans included.

Horrible, and so unnecessary, so pointless and unjustified.

I wonder what will be the response of the "I stand with Ukraine" robots. No doubt, they are still waiting to be told what to think. This will be tough for them to navigate, what with the left being so anti-Semitic, which makes the Jewish propensity to lean far to the left truly bizarre.

Do they pull down their Ukraine flags and put up the flag of Israel on their Facebook page on X, formerly know as Y? Do they put both flags up, or maybe ignore this terrorist attack because it's inconvenient?

Maybe they'll act as if they haven't yet noticed and go on vacation until the Ministry of Truth issues a fresh download for all the NPCs.

WSJ NEWS EXCLUSIVE - Iran Helped Plot Attack on Israel Over Several Weeks

DUBAI—Iranian security officials helped plan Hamas’s Saturday surprise attack on Israel and gave the green light for the assault at a meeting in Beirut last Monday, according to senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, another Iran-backed militant group.

Officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had worked with Hamas since August to devise the air, land and sea incursions—the most significant breach of Israel’s borders since the 1973 Yom Kippur War—those people said.

Details of the operation were refined during several meetings in Beirut attended by IRGC officers and representatives of four Iran-backed militant groups, including Hamas, which holds power in Gaza, and Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group and political faction in Lebanon, they said.

Around the world, groups of Muslims turned out to celebrate Hamas’s successful sneak attack on Israel. More surprisingly, perhaps, the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America also demonstrated in Times Square in favor of the invasion. That would be the chapter to which Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez belongs.

Egypt, much like most of Israel's neighbors have the total destruction of Israel and removal of the Jewish people from Palestine written into their nations documents (similar to our Constitution).

Rightwire and WingedMedic: thank you.
I thought we (the U.S.) were cool with Egypt... I guess that's not really the case?
I didn't know Egypt was among the "destroy Israel" group.

A part of my interest in this is very local -- I've got neighbors whom I'm pretty sure are Egyptian. Nice people, in general, always with a smile and a "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Easter" greeting during those holidays...

Regarding PASig's Blinken post: even in my ignorance, I'm smart enough to know that "making sure that Israelis and Palestinians resolve their differences" is a pipe dream.

God bless America.
