Clueless and dumb...
California university president put on leave for ‘insubordination’ after meeting Gaza protesters’ demands
quote:
Mike Lee had agreed to move toward divesting from Israel and giving a pro-Palestinian group more sway over campus decisions.

California State University placed Sonoma State campus President Mike Lee on leave Wednesday after he agreed to protesters’ demands to involve them in university decision-making and pursue divestment from Israel.

Lee sent a campus-wide memo Tuesday indicating that he had made several concessions to occupants of a pro-Palestinian encampment on campus. The memo was sent “without the appropriate approvals,” CSU Chancellor Mildred García said in a statement, adding that she and the 23-campus CSU system’s board are “actively reviewing the matter.”

“For now, because of this insubordination and the consequences it has brought upon the system, President Lee has been placed on administrative leave,” García said.

The punishment marks perhaps the harshest disciplinary action against a campus chancellor or president in California over the handling of protests of the war in Gaza. It also underscores an unwillingness to divest from Israeli weapons manufacturers — as pro-Palestinian protesters across the country have increasingly demanded the last few months — among leaders of the CSU system and its sister University of California system.

California universities including UC Riverside, UC Berkeley and Sacramento State have agreed to study divestment like some East Coast universities, but none have gone as far as Lee.

Lee told the campus that he would initiate an academic boycott of Israel, in which links to study abroad programs in the country would be removed from university pamphlets, among other measures. He also agreed to work with a local chapter of the activist group Students for Justice in Palestine to form an advisory council on some decisions.

Lee further pledged to review the school’s contracts and a campus-specific investment fund called the Sonoma State Foundation for ties to Israel “to determine a course of action leading to divestment strategies that include seeking ethical alternatives.”

“In my attempt to find agreement with one group of students, I marginalized other members of our student population and community,” Lee wrote in a follow-up message to members of the campus Wednesday. “I realize the harm that this has caused, and I take full ownership of it. I deeply regret the unintended consequences of my actions.”

Lee did not immediately return a request for comment.

His decision to engage with protesters had quickly drawn backlash in the 24 hours since he announced the deal with demonstrators, which included them dismantling their encampment. California Legislative Jewish Caucus Co-Chair Scott Wiener, a Democrat, condemned Lee’s concessions to the “Boycott, Divest and Sanction” movement in scathing terms.

“Yesterday the President of Sonoma State University aligned the campus with BDS, a movement whose goal is the destruction of Israel, home to 7M Jews,” Wiener wrote on X Wednesday. “Several other UC & CSU campuses are doing this more subtly. Sonoma State simply said the quiet part out loud. The mask is off.”

Wiener and fellow Caucus Co-Chair Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel later issued a statement praising the decision to place Lee on leave, saying he had been “unfit to lead one of our great state institutions.”

Lee was first named president of the campus in Northern California’s Wine Country in the fall of 2022. He’ll be replaced in the interim by Nathan Evans, a vice chancellor in García’s administration.

“I want to acknowledge how deeply concerned I am about the impact the statement has had on the Sonoma State community, and how challenging and painful it will be for many of our students and community members to see and read,” said García, who took over as chancellor at the beginning of the academic year. “The heart and mission of the CSU is to create an inclusive and welcoming place for everyone we serve, not to marginalize one community over another.”

Now we know where much of the $47 Billion 'goodbye present' from Israel was spent apart from the rockets and ammunition, that is.

Ok, I'm assuming Israel's effort to win the propaganda war is more or less over, and they are getting down to the brass for this last big push. I'm sick to my stomach of our common enemies kicking our ass in the propaganda war and in every other way filled with hatred and evil and lies of every kind. I'm still feeling like Israel could use some more parking lots, and maybe a brand new military base, designed specifically for kicking ass. They could name it KYA-KHA-KEA (Kick your ass, kick his ass, kick everyone's ass) International. I'm pretty sick of the abuse of one of our best allies in the world, not withstanding the horrible amount of hate and venom right here in the US. After decades of the lefties running our Education systems and letting in all sorts of haters into the US, this is the natural and predictable result. And you know what ? The lefties are loving every minute of it. It's sickening.

That seems like a very large number to have just "found".

It really is a shame that the Hamas folks have hostages. Absent hostages, a scaled up version of the Rodex 5000 would seem like the way to deal with these tunnels.

Gaza aid pier mission involving U.S. troops is off to a chaotic start

By Geoff Ziezulewicz and The Associated Press
May 21, 2024, 05:06PM

An effort involving the U.S. military to surge much-needed humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is off to a chaotic start, with aid trucks being overrun and at least one person feared dead over the weekend, prompting a pause in aid distribution.

U.S. soldiers and sailors built a floating pier off Gaza and stabbed it into a Gaza beach on Friday with the help of Israeli forces.

The plan, announced by President Biden in his State of the Union address and using a capability known as Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore, or JLOTS, has been touted as another way to get food to Gazans caught between the Israeli military and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

It involves no U.S. troops on the ground in Gaza, as the U.S. military’s efforts have involved building the massive floating platform and pier that was installed last week.

But aid trucks stopped trundling off the military’s floating pier on Saturday, and only resumed moving out into Gaza on Tuesday, according to Pentagon officials.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said Tuesday that the issues have arisen once the aid was loaded onto nongovernmental organization trucks, departed the marshalling area and headed toward distribution warehouses in Gaza.

Over the weekend, some of those trucks were overtaken by Palestinians, according to U.N. officials.

None of the 11 aid trucks that left the JLOTS pier made it to a warehouse as intended on Saturday, U.N. World Food Program spokesperson Steve Taravella told The Associated Press. He said they were commandeered by what became a crowd of people gathered nearby.

Authorities have offered few firm details of what transpired Saturday. Hamas has said the group will resist any foreign presence associated with the project, but it remains unclear whether the group was involved in the weekend’s aid disruption.

However, Associated Press video shows Israeli armored vehicles on a beach road, then aid trucks moving down the road.

Civilians watching from the roadside gradually start to clamber on top of the aid trucks, throwing aid down to people below. Numbers of people then appear to overrun the aid trucks and their goods.

At one point, members of the crowd are shown carting a motionless man with a chest wound through the crowd. A local morgue later confirmed to the AP the man had been killed by a rifle shot. At another point, shots crackled, and some of the people in the crowd are shown apparently ducking behind aid boxes for cover.

It was not clear who fired the shots.

Asked about the shooting, the Israeli army told the AP, using the acronym for the Israel Defense Forces: “The IDF is currently focused on eliminating the threat from the terrorist organization Hamas.”

After the chaotic launch, WFP officials said Tuesday that the pier project may fail unless Israel starts providing the conditions that humanitarian groups need to operate safely.

Ryder acknowledged the challenges involved in the effort and said that alternate routes were being examined.

He also noted that Israeli forces ashore and at sea, as well as Navy destroyers, are patrolling to ensure the safety of the U.S. troops involved in the JLOTS effort.

“This is a combat zone, and this is a complex operation,” he said Tuesday. “And so we’ve been very clear from the beginning that we’re going to take a crawl-walk-run approach.”

Does anyone here have any idea why they would do that?

I would like some clarification on this. Has Hamas promised to end it's quest for genocide in exchange? What guarantees of lasting peace do they have? Hell, what hopes do they even have for peace?

Hamas' stated goal is the destruction of Isreal and the just committed the largest extermination of Jews since the Holocaust. What exactly have they done to earn an independent state.

I no longer care for a single inhabitant of Gaza, if they are going to accuse Isreal of genocide for fighting back, fuck it bulldoze the entire thing into the ocean and use it for excess parking.

Maybe Egypt doesn't want a cease fire, but want to look like they do. Then, when Israel does what it has to do, the Egyptians can claim they did everything they could to prevent it, secretly glad Israel solved a long standing problem for most in the Middle East.

Given that Palestinians to a man, woman, and brainwashed child unilaterally support Hamas and have nothing but unfettered hatred for Israel, there isn’t much of an alternative. I sincerely hope they are beginning the process of creating the 2 kilometer dead zone no-man’s-land they were talking about.

My biggest worry at the moment is the democrats making good on their promise to import who knows how many terrorists as “refugees”. All by design.

While its unfortunate that children die in war, in this case one group willfully and premeditated their violence in the most heinous and graphic manor against a civilian population, all the while celebrating and broadcasting their achievements; meanwhile the other group is working to stop this group from continuing their acts. Who again are the criminals?
