Comey is uneasy about his testimony leaking out.

Report: Comey Plotted To Avoid Charges Against Hillary BEFORE The FBI Interviewed Her

Amidst the fallout from the firing of FBI director James Comey, a new report reveals that Comey actually planned not to recommend charges against Hillary Clinton over the use of her private email server well before she was interviewed by the FBI.

The lengthy report featured in The New Yorker portrays Comey as an individual who had a tragic fall from grace in his futile attempt to be the independent man in Washington, D.C. Buried in the piece is this explosive nugget (emphasis added):

As the inquiry neared its end, Comey, who had closely monitored it from the start, requested summaries of more than thirty government prosecutions involving mishandling of classified information. He waded through the records, seeking to understand the cases’ rationale and how they had been resolved. In the end, he agreed with the investigators’ unanimous conclusion: Clinton should not face criminal charges...

Comey had his own ideas. Unbeknownst to his Justice Department colleagues, Comey had resolved to proceed alone with the announcement. Since May, he had been holding a parallel series of meetings with top F.B.I. confidants to thrash through his plan. He would publicly announce—and explain—the Clinton decision without Lynch at his side. “We had discussions for months about what this looked like,” Michael Steinbach, who retired as the F.B.I.’s executive assistant director for national security in February, 2017, said. “This, for us, was the best course of action, given the political situation that we were in—for us to do it independently.”

As Comey saw it, according to Steinbach and others familiar with his thinking, the public doubted Lynch’s independence and would be less likely to accept the decision if she were involved in announcing it.

Clinton wasn't interviewed until July 2. That means a couple of months before the subject of the investigation was interviewed, Comey was plotting a course of action to make the decision not to recommend charges against her seem more palatable to the public. It's clear in the piece that not only was there never any indication that Comey was going to recommend charges against her, but that Comey knew about an email sent by a Democratic operative who believed that Attorney General Loretta Lynch "would protect Clinton." Comey never raised the issue with Lynch.

After Comey made the announcement not to recommend charges against Clinton on July 5, the piece mentions that there was "rising discontent within the FBI" over Comey's decision; the Department of Justice (DOJ) was "incredulous" that Comey made the announcement "without them." Later in the piece it's revealed that Comey decided to announce the re-opening of the Clinton investigation to save his credibility despite pleas from the DOJ not to.

The main takeaway from Comey's career has been that he always looks to protect himself first and foremost; this latest nugget from The New Yorker certainly reflects that. Comey apparently planned to save Clinton from charges even before she was interviewed, which would explain why he didn't personally interview her and why the interview was never recorded and why she wasn't forced to answer questions under oath. That is not how someone who is dedicated to upholding the law should operate.

I've said it since July 5th, and I'll say it again. Comey is a traitor. An American hating trashbag.

If anyone else had done one tenth of what Clinton did they would have been UNDER the jail long ago.

Nah. I'd like to see Cornyn leave the senate and his replacement named by Abbott. Cornholio is a RINO along the lines of Ryan and Turtlehead. I have about as much respect for Cornholio as I do McCain.

When Hillary was interviewed over 4th of July weekend last year I got the impression it was a sham. The New Yorker piece confirms that impression.
I think Comey probably thought Hillary would win the election and didn't want to get on her bad side.

Oh, for the good old days, when men were men, women wore heels and cross-dressing sociopathic FBI Directors stayed in office by gathering dirt on every politician in DC.

I never thought I'd consider J. Edgar Hoover to be more of a man than Comey.

Wasn't the bitch flying around in Air Force One with her boy that same day? Then later her boy let her stand behind the presidential podium and give a speech at a rally?
They were all in the circle jerk together. They knew from the start how this was going to end it was just a show for the low information crowd and a exercise in futility for the rest of us.

I won't take Trump draining the swamp seriously unless he revisits this entire sordid mess and makes people accountable. If he doesn't there will be more of the same down the road and certain to be on a even worse level.

After Trump made his statement about the Clinton's being nice people and he didn't want to hurt them and how she has suffered terribly already I could have kicked him square in the nut sack!! Mad

I wonder if he stills feel the same way today?

It is possible that the President is playing chess while people are thinking checkers. Here he is clearly on record as saying they are good people and he doesn't want to hurt them. Now if the entirely apolitical Department of Justice were to find evidence of crimes they cannot ignore he may have to say that is a crying shame, but justice must be served... if I have learned nothing else about our President, it is that there is no reason to get to excited about the noise and whatever the media is crowing about. The real work is happening elsewhere. Who knows, we may yet find out if Orange looks like the new black on Slick Willy' wife...

McConnell suggested the replacement ought to be Merrick Garland.

That's right, the former Supreme Court nominee, who is Chief Judge of the DC Circuit Court of Appeal. Before you knee jerk about McConnell, think about it.

He has DOJ experience as a prosecutor. The God Damned Commies could hardly vote against him, having qualified him for sainthood trying to get him on the court.

If nominated to the FBI and confirmed, that would create a vacant seat on the Court of Appeals that would have to be filled. Lordy, lordy. The DC circuit is the first among equals.
