It may be helpful if the new speaker is a bud of McCarthy's. If McCarthy can save face and get with the right team, could be an asset.

I don’t completely disagree with you but... continuing the same behavior and expecting different results is crazy. I’m ok with this.

In the real world we operate in nobody is entitled to a particular job, rank, role, or an office location. If deliveries don’t get made, financial goals don’t get met, customers aren’t happy, your ass gets replaced. Doesn’t matter if it was your fault or not. Someone will get the job. And potentially your office. Is it always fair? No.

Likewise, fuck tradition. Pelosi belongs in a rest home, or closet, not congress. She isn’t entitled to a damn special office.

Is any of this relevant? Dunno. But until the aholes are held accountable and to the same standards we all are, nothing will change.

I’m sure Jordan will do as good or better than KM. Out of 200+ reps, surely there is one that can do the job.

Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep Steve Scalise are said to want the chair. Either one would be better than McCarthy.

Is that really the case? I won't pretend to know the ramifications of this ouster, but I do know that we always talk about effecting changes in leadership but it rarely happens. In this case, we (and our opponents) can see that something was actually done- something unprecedented. There's no doubt that this has given our enemies food for thought.

So, for the time being and until I see otherwise, I gauge this to be a good thing. We've heard lots of promises and threats but almost no action. Well, now we have action.

Assume one of them win. Can they draw up X's and O's on the white board that will have the Gaetz faction onboard? I don't know. It's not the 200+ Republicans that matter in this. It's whether we're going to have another shit show like we had in January with 15 votes. I'm sure Gaetz has his list of demands.

Full text:

Dear Colleague:

The American people have entrusted us to lead in the House of Representatives. Our majority has had success in the first nine months of the 118th Congress. We should be proud of what we have achieved together in these divided times.

But our work is not done. Far-left progressive policies are destroying our communities, our security, and our future. We have soaring crime across the country. We have an administration with open-border policies that have caused chaos and left our country vulnerable. We’ve seen federal agencies turned on the American people—silencing speech online, targeting parents at school board meetings, and flagging pro-life Catholics as potential threats—and we’ve witnessed blatant double standards in federal law enforcement. We continue to spend too much money and Americans are suffering under President Biden’s economy.

The Republican majority must continue to address the issues that matter to the American people. We must address rising crime in major cities and reject soft-on-crime, pro-criminal policies. We must get our fiscal house in order and reduce spending so that we can leave more to the next generation than a crushing deficit. We must do our constitutional oversight of the federal bureaucracy to ensure they work for the American people—not the other way around. And we must continue working to secure the border and protect our national security.

We agreed at the beginning of the Congress that there are three fundamental things the House must do: pass the bills that need to be passed, do the oversight, and rein in the spending. Working with Chairman Green and our leadership, I helped to deliver the most significant legislative accomplishment this Congress: the strongest immigration and border enforcement bill ever. With other committee chairs and the members of the Judiciary Committee, 1 am doing the oversight and holding the Administration accountable. And 1 have been among the leaders in pushing for fiscal discipline my entire career.

We are at a critical crossroad in our nation’s history. Now is the time for our Republican conference to come together to keep our promises to Americans. The problems we face are challenging, but they are not insurmountable. We can focus on the changes that improve the country and unite us in offering real solutions. But no matter what we do, we must do it together as a conference. I respectfully ask for your support for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

This is great. I know last January, he was insistent on not being speaker since he was heading some important committees, I'm happy he has decided to take it on. He is respected by the McCarthy people, and of course the Freedom Caucus, being a former Chair and current Vice-Chair. IMO, he has a decent chance of getting the 218 votes.

Brutal, but let me add: With dinner from Burger King, on a table cloth from Target, washed in Dove soap, with Mulvaney for your dining companion.

Pretty sure the last 4 R speakers of the house elected after the R's took power have been removed/forced out. Between Gingrich, Hastert, Boehner, and Ryan, they were all forced out, there just wasn't a vote in those cases.
