Ok, then what? Epiphany from the entire country that isn't represented by 9 idiots?

quote:
No, now they put in someone with actual conservative values. Who will actually try to get spending under control, secure the border, and uphold the constitution.

Sure. And who has a magic wand to make Schumer and Biden do as he wishes. Harry Potter for Speaker! Let's see, slim majority, only one branch of the three power centers, gotcha. This will work.

quote:
Then, by God, the uniparty politicians need to get on his "team".

Um, 212 people plus all those misguided democrats need to join the 9 person dream team of enlightened America Scouts and not the other way around? That's not been my observation of how the world works in any facet of human interaction. Nice idea, though.

quote:
The American people are sick and damned tired of the BS way the country is being run and have had enough.

I wish you were right, I really do. But unfortunately, the American people are pissed that the Government writ large is more interested in fighting than in solving problems. This plays right into that narrative. And until conservatives own the national mass media in a way that they haven't for over 50 years, this is unlikely to change.

Win exactly what? Elections? Make no mistake. I voted for Trump twice, and will do so again if I get the chance. But the people he backed in the last election got massacred. Look no further than than Broccoli Boy Fetterman. The country isn't where we are as a matter of anger and conservativism. You can't win without actually winning elections, and then fighting as a unit for the best that you can get once you get to Washington. There is no quick fix. It's a long process. It has been going on most of my life. We won the first big round with Reagan, and have been fighting to keep going ever since.

quote:
The irony is that Gaetz had to work with Democrats to oust McCarthy because he was colluding with Dems. I read Sheila Jackson Lee walked up to Gaetz after the vote and shook his hand. We'll see who they can come up with that can be elected SOTH, and not be a RINO. This will be interesting at the least...

So. Let me get this straight. Gaetz is pissed that McCarthy used some dems to get the continuing resolution passed, but Gaetz doesn't see any irony in his use of ALL of the dems to get McCarthy turfed out. Real principled guy there. Use the enemy to defeat your enemy, have no plan for the future, hand democrats a "republicans can't govern" stick to beat us with in an election year, and probably save Joe Biden from impeachment.

Let me say that again. This maneuver probably saved Joe Biden from being impeached for corruption. Well Done Matty!

This guy Gaetz is the Leroy Jones of republican politics. If you don't get the reference, google it.

We are now moving down a road that has never been travelled by anyone in the USA. This is just the next move in the restructuring and reorientation of American politics and society that started under Trump. It is going to be very chaotic for the next 5 to 8 years. What comes out on the other side is yet to be determined.

Good one, Artie. Might as well call those of us who wanted McCarthy out idiots, too.

I'm in a shipyard currently, working 16 hour days, so haven't been keeping up too closely on the news. I knew a shutdown was looming, because it was going to have an effect on our upcoming Coast Guard inspection, but that's about all I know.

I didn't think McCarthy wasn't doing too bad a job as Speaker, which was a pleasant surprise, so why the hell did they just kick him out?

He was viewed as an untrustworthy, deceitful lying RINO.

He made a series of specific promises to a group of republicans in order to win their support for his speakership, then reneged on those promises when the time to honor them arrived. So they made the only move for accountability available to them and partnered with democrats to remove him from office. It's that simple.

The democrats agreed to this because it's a tactical win for them to sow division among their political adversaries.

To be very direct, I have not, and would not, call respected members of this forum idiots, either directly or by implication. I very specifically limited my remarks to those in congress who precipitated this.

I have been here long enough for both of you to know that.

Furthermore, I am sympathetic. I understand the anger and frustration. I don't give a good tinker's damn for McCarthy or any of the other liars.

That doesn't change my opinion that throwing a bomb and breaking things up without a plan is anything but idiotic.

Yup. Without the specificity provided above by arabiancowboy, the short answer is that McCarthy was viewed as an untrustworthy, deceitful lying RINO.

Good things happening already. Cool

As one of his first acts as the acting speaker, Rep. Patrick McHenry ordered former Speaker Nancy Pelosi to vacate her Capitol hideaway office by Wednesday, according to an email sent to her office viewed by POLITICO.

“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” wrote a top aide on the Republican-controlled House Administration Committee. The room was being reassigned by the acting speaker “for speaker office use,” the email said.

McHenry, a close McCarthy ally, was first on his list to become acting speaker after the Californian was booted in a Tuesday afternoon vote.

Only a select few House lawmakers get hideaway offices in the Capitol, compared to their commonplace presence in the Senate.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ staff helped Pelosi’s office make the move, according to a spokesperson for the former speaker. Here's an image from outside the office at around 8 p.m. as staff were spotted packing up...

That was part of the article I linked. I took it to mean there is a concern that many nations will switch from the dollar to another currency as the global standard for commerce which would have ramifications on the American economy.

We do know that Gaetz had a unknown (but likely small'ish') number of Republicans that would support his Motion to Vacate, but it's a VERY BIG stretch to call him out for 'his use of ALL of the dems' or that he 'had to work with the Democrats' on this. While one 'could' assume that the dems would likely be onboard to create/support kaos in a Republican controlled House, all the while ensuring an outside chance (though extremely slim) that somehow their guy gets to be Speaker, it's not really fair to accuse him of conspiring with the Democrats when there's absolutely NO evidence of that!

The vote to vacate was 216 to 210 with 100% of the dems voting with Gaetz and his clique. He used the dems to get his way.

Of course the Dems would all vote to vacate as would all Republicans vote to vacate a democrat speaker. I would hope… Roll Eyes

The surprise is that there were only nine Republicans who wanted to hold McCarthy to his commitments.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
