CMR076, It may be time to ask about a limit per day. A local b&m does this with a 2 per day limit on most Opus and Anejo.

Jay, Was it the size of the Nub that you didn't like? I know the 60 can be tough to smoke because you have to hit it more often or it will go out, more so on longer sticks.

But, I think this is the perfect size for the Oliva line. It seems the size and the heat of the stick blend very well to release the flavors to perfection.

I liked the smoke. It was too short. Got ashy tasting towards the "Nub" Seemed like it was just getting good and spicy and then it was over. Ill grab an Oliva V in a Nub size and Robusto this weekend, got a couple Tatuaje to try out too.

Perfect for winters up here. Only, at an hour, they are still long when you can't feel anything and shivering.

Guys -

Jeff Yarchin posted this in The Lounge.

(U.S. looking to relax embargo with Cuba)
The president is set to announce a wide range of changes to the government's policy toward Cuba, CNN reported earlier. U.S, travels will be able to import $400 in goods from the country. This includes up to $100 in alcohol and tobacco, such as Cuban cigars.

Thoughts on what that would do to cigar prices? My initial reaction is that the market would be flooded with Cubans, quality be damned, and my favorite non-Cubans would plummet in price to keep up. What say you?

I think pent up demand would chase limited inventory. Prices would go up and quality would decrease as the factories try to meet demand.

More importantly if the embargo is dropped the U.S. will be taxing these as they do cigarettes. I bet the tax alone will double the price.

I look forward to visiting Cuba on a cigar vacation but I will continue to buy my cigars from my current sources.

My uncle visits Cuba twice a year, he would be happy to bring me Cigars if he was legally able to.

Aging room F55, is a fantastic smoke btw. Give it a try if you see it.

Counterfeits are going to skyrocket. They are everywhere now including Cuba but they will become more prevalent in the US. Real Cuban cigars will not be available in any real quantity to effect prices of Non-cubans for years. Remember tobacco is a crop the 2015 allotment of production cigars is likely already committed and the production process of growing, fermenting, and manufacturing is not flexible to large changes.

It is a myth that Cuban cigars are not available or expensive. If you purchase by the box you can get excellent cigars in the $8-$12 range.

This is already the case. You guys act like the rest of the globe doesn't do business with Cuba or smoke their cigars ...

Well...this didn't take long!

Today, the United States government announced sweeping changes to its longstanding embargo against Cuba. Soon there will be a U.S. embassy in Havana; Americans will be allowed to send more money to Cuba, both for relatives and for the development of business; and Americans visiting the island will be able to return to the U.S. with some Cuban products, including Cohibas and other Cuban cigars.

Not a cigar aficionado, but if supply goes up (or restrictions on supply go away - same thing) then market-clearing prices would fall. Not all prices respond the same way.

Illustrative, made up scenario: ============
Assume there are three types of cigars - oversimplifying here for illustration - cheap cigars, non-Cuban good cigars and Cuban good cigars. (With the hassle of getting Cubans into the US, I will assume that currently in the US, Cubans aren't a factor in the cheap market.) In that case, the US demand for good cigars is being mostly met today by non-Cuban good cigars.

Now, assume Cuban good cigars become available in the US. In that case, the US demand that used to all go to non-Cuban good cigars gets split with some of that demand goes Cuban. So US demand for non-Cuban good cigars would fall. If suppliers of non-Cuban good cigars keep US prices unchanged, their volume would fall and if they want to keep volume, they'd have to drop prices.

Now, if you want to expand that idea, assume Cuba makes both types. In that case, the effect of Cuban availability would affect the market for cheap cigars as well.
End of scenario=============================

Long way to say, it depends on how the non-Cuban suppliers react. If they are OK losing share, they can keep prices high. If they want to sell all they can produce, then they'll probably need to drop prices.
