I'm bummed to see Stella and Breckenridge on the list. Two craft beers that I enjoy. Maybe they manage to keep A-B's fingers out of their brewing.

That's the biggest rub here, there's probably a LOT of people that think they're boycotting AB, when they really just ended up buying another AB product, or just another InBev product.

Bummer to see Elysian on InBev's Wikipedia list. I've long liked their brews. That said, these days any Seattle-based brewery is certainly damned woke anyways. At least Full Sail, Sierra and Mac & Jack's are not. But they're each likely very 'left coast' as well...

I agree. Bud Light is/was the largest seller.

Even if you don't get off AB entirely, I think it's still a good idea to switch beers from BL to literally anything else. It may not effect their overall bottom line if people swap off BL to other brands in the portfolio, but absolutely killing the market share of BL still effects the company value negatively.

Stella hasn’t been craft beer in most Sigforumites’ lifetime. They crossed the 100 million gallon annual threshold in 1960, they’ve been part of a conglomerate for 30 years, and part of AB InBev for 15+ years.

History repeats itself, sort of.

From its humble beginnings in 1948 Bill Knapps was a family restaurant. Eventually it became known as the restaurant for retirees. The food was excellent, prices reasonable, service was top notch, and portions were appropriate. It was quiet, peaceful, the staff knew most of the local patrons on a first name basis. Colors were muted but classy, lighting was good. Everything that made older folks comfortable and they did a strong business as a result. If Grandpa said "lets go out to dinner tonight" You were eating at Bill Knapps.

Then a new young VP came along and decided that they were missing the younger demographic. Bill Knaps needed families with lots of kids, it had to be fun, energetic, a new look, a new message. Bright color paint replaced the traditional green and white. Soft music was replaced by modern pop. TV's were installed playing a variety of different programming, and kiddie play areas were now prominent on the brightly colored and patterned carpet. Many of the traditional menu items the older people (and I even) counted on and loved were replaced with fun, spicy, inventive, choices that young people might enjoy as different.

It was everything their primary customer base (people over 60) didn't like. It was the reason they went to Bill Knapps and not Chili's, Applebees, TGIF, or Red Robin. More importantly, these were people with money who tipped well.

In the end, the core of their business for decades left for a more comfortable, quiet, places with smaller screaming kid sections.

Bill Knapps went defunct in 2002, but was dead by the late 1990's.

You'd think they would teach that in every business school. Do NOT risk upsetting your primary customer base to gain another small percent of the market. It will kill your business.

Firing her would be a total joke. She didn't just wave a wand and do this in a vacuum. Lots of people had to sign off on it and there was likely a ton of time and opportunity for others to tell her and her team to pull back from the ledge. This was a concerted effort by multiple decision makers and with no guesswork or ambiguity. Lots of heads need to roll over this IF AB is serious about repairing the damage. Firing the face of the campaign would really add insult to injury.



The real backlash isn't because Bud Light partnered with some tranny and made some commemorative cans. Bud Light has been partnering with controversial figures/groups for decades. They just did it in a way that wasn't in our faces. The backlash comes from the VP of Marketing going on a podcast and openly slamming the current demographic of Bud Light and prior marketing (that was the best, most effective marketing I've ever seen) while bragging about ditching both for "the future" of diversity and inclusiveness. Consumers don't want a political agenda shoved down our throats and when the VP of Marketing openly confirms that, then they get what they get.
