Great thread and discussion. I agree that while unlikely to encounter, there are plenty of things to be aware of today from ISIS to urban “youths” looking to cause trouble for the contrived travesty of the moment. I found myself getting a bit lax with carrying my P220C, especially during the summer with shorts and a t-shirt, so I picked up a P290RS and it has been great. Just slip it in a front pocket and go, with some extra mags in another pocket. Will still carry the bigger gun when clothes allow. I’ve been looking at an AR15 pistol for road trips. In Ohio I can’t have a loaded rifle in my car, but an AR pistol is covered under the Ohio CCW license. Knowing I have the AR in the car nearby would also help me feel better when only carrying the P290. I also resolved to put some more money into training this year as opposed to buying more hardware. I just registered for a more advanced 3-day pistol class and also a 3-day carbine class. Really looking forward to them and taking advantage of the lower priced ammo to stock up.

In the past, my wife and I both carried and kept a few extra mags in the car. Since last summer, we both have added a car gun, extra magazines and extra ammo. Also, we have made up complete 'get home' bags which I will not get into as this is not a survivalist forum. But, there is a pretty decent wound kit in each bag and extra knives. With each passing incident of terrorism, we increase our training time and add or subtract gear. We have armed the house ever since we moved almost 5 years ago. It is good to know a product for defense is close by in every room. Be well and stay safe.

if I lived in a slightly (ok, a much) warmer climate, I wouldn't hesitate to have a dedicated rifle for the car with a couple of mags but at 5 degrees, that's not going to happen [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

The thing about odds is-- what does it matter how slim they might be if it actually happens. Say you are in a restaurant and some psycho stands up and screams "Allahu akbar!" and draws a weapon-- gun, knife, axe whatever. Are you going to say, "Whoa, dude! Put that thing away. I mean, the odds of this happening are so slim…." I feel sure there are lots of sleeper cells all around the country, and they have been biding their time-- coming across the southern border and building up numbers. Can anyone doubt that that? We know these psychos abound in mideast countries. Would they fail to take advantage of their enemy's wide open door? Add to that the homegrown fanatics. If two inept bozos-- "The Beltway Snipers"-- could shut down Delmarva for a month, imagine what hundreds of trained terrorists could do. ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

I guess I threw some of you guys off when I stated the reality of the matter, which is that the odds of you encountering such a thing are extremely low. Where in my remarks do you see me saying anything about not preparing since the odds are so low? I didn't say that. Who said that? Somebody must have said it, because this is at least the second remark like this in the thread. Was I not clear? As sure as I'm sitting here, if I hadn't remarked on the odds, some member would have come along and said "Y'know, the odds of you encountering such a thing are extremely low." ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

Ever since I was a young man, I've been preparing. I'm trying to get my kid to sit back and be observant when he's out and about. If you're very observant, you can see danger before it happens.

If that was the case, none of us would ever go out to the range here in Minnesota.often, I have left my M4s and pistols in the car overnight in sub zero and they functioned perfectly. I spent some time in Korea along the DMZ at the top of and at the base of Yong Moon San (Dragon's Gate Mountain). The 16s worked when we needed them/ I am talking nightmare cold and they worked, thank God. Give it a try. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mrmn50,

You were clear. I was thinking of people who would say, in a dismissive way , that the odds are slim. But what does that matter --if it actually happens? "Odds" go out the window. I think we might see something like popcorn popping once the sleeper cells activate. There must be many out there. ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

Listen, until you think you can be coherent and address the subject at hand, don't bother posting in this thread. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

I was agreeing with you that being prepared is a good state of mind given we will not get the truth of circumstances from the media. My firstborn is a LEO and on the SWAT team of his dept. The heightened awareness of recent event are desensitizing us and causing many to fall asleep in apathy. You were ringing the bell to maybe awaken some out of their slumber. I have ridden for years with my son and their dept. I have seen for myself the horrors that men have inflicted upon other men (and children) where if properly protected, the innocents would have a chance to still be alive. Hence the comment that its always random, (violence, evil) until it happens to you.(or any of us) ________,_____________________________ Guns don't kill people - Alec Baldwin kills people. Yes, a great thread. I was out with the wife at lunch today and, as three people walked past us on the way to the car, I visualized one of them turning around to do us harm and what I would do about it. I listened to the footsteps getting fainter just trying to beef up my awareness. You have to start somewhere. When I got home I pulled out the new 380 Bodyguard mag I just received, filled it and placed it in the car safe with the other two. 18 rounds of Pew Pew Pew plus the remaining seven in the box. I need to put a box of 9mm in there just to have when I carry something bigger. I also put a messenger bag with some snacks in the truck. It's winter and I usually keep something in there if we get snowed in on the road. A bonus with the bag as it doesn't look as threatening as the 30 cal ammo can I have as well in case I need to grab and go. I am woefully unprepared but admitting this is step one to fixing it. I already have FAK's in both trucks now with extra gauze and some blood clot packets. Keep the ideas coming. I am taking notes.

fair is a word not used by myself or our enemies. this is why I have been so surprised they have not really struck us where we are softest.... watch any report on Beslan (sp)...scares the shit out of me and short of schools being fortresses with armed guards they is no way to prevent it. As many have stated in this thread, it does not take much to at least better your odds in surviving a threat....equipment has a role but even if you are driving a fully kitted M1A1 you are vulnerable if you do not use your most important tool....your brain. After spending several years overseas (some with a firearm but most without) I learned the best thing you can do is be observant and have a plan. don't be cattle

Having seen what the LTTE could do in Sri Lanka, I have been dumbfounded. But they might be biding their time to gather maximum numbers. We could be in for a big wake-up. ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

It's sad, but these are the times we are living in. We can't take comfort in the low probabilities. I'll admit that I've been guilty of this since moving to Utah, but that needs to change. Don't wait until the storm hits to buy a snow shovel kind of thing.

I found your original post CLEAR, UNAMBIGUOUS, and EASY TO READ & UNDERSTAND. And I EASILY found your statements about the odds being LOW (aNd i doNt rEed so goud)..... Just wanted to chime in here & say that I completely agree with you. I've said that I believe the day will come when everyman will be forced to assume the protection of his family and his property BY HIMSELF; and I have noticed lately how QUICKLY changes come - when they come. So I verified something with our Sherriff. I can drive through our School parking lots to pick up the kids armed. And I can lock my gun in my car if I need to go in. I just cannot walk away from my car or into the school armed. I've always left it at home, but now I believe I will stay armed through the day...more than before anyway.
