I carry a Glock 30, 10+1 plus two 15 (13+2) round magazines.

For law enforcement purposes an expanding bonded bullet like the 64 grain Gold Dot is very good, and given a choice of personal defense ammunition not involving barriers I prefer something like the Hornady 75 grain FPD or TAP.

But when those exotic and hard-to-find loads aren’t available, I’m perfectly happy with either M193 (55 gr. FMJ) (my choice) or M855 (62 gr. green tip FMJ). When buying that ammunition, though, spend a few dollars more and get the good stuff like Lake City/Federal, and don’t pinch pennies by using steel-cased ammunition.

I decided at the start of 2014, to make some check lists, and re-check all my things that could help in a time of crisis.

I found a few holes in what i tho gut i should have and worked this year to fill those.

also add i carry the G19 more than the Shield these days, as 31 sounds better than 16

I am carrying, whenever possible. My wife, who got me started on all this, used to ask why I was putting on my rig, almost every time we went out, until she started to understand what is going on around us. Nowadays, it seems that now she does not even bat an eye as the rig is being put on before we go somewhere. Always have some sort of implement on me when we are inside or when I cannot carry when we are out, but plans are in the works to be carrying always when indoors as well.

Yes. Armed whenever possible, and to the greatest degree practical without drawing attention to one's self. I have been at times lax in this respect, but these days, I am loaded for bear.

I've almost always got my Rami with a 10rd in it, a spare 10 and a spare 14 in my bag. My bag has an EOD tool, some paracord, some zip ties, eyes and ears, fire starters and some snacks.

When I travel the 300BLK or MP5k comes with. I am liking the 5k besides cost, 90 rounds of the same carry ammo as the pistol is pretty handy.

I use Hydrashoks with 9BPLE and homemade HSTs as backups and back way ups.

In the 300 there are Barnes 110s, Hornady 110s, and homemade Varmageddon 110s.

During 911, I carried my Browning BLR in 243 when out in the country. There were Sheriff Deputy's at most major intersections. I noticed one using binocular's to scope the vehicles from a distance. I also carry binoculars so that is how I know. Big Grin

At that time, it wasn't long before the Game Wardens were issued AR's for their vehicles.

Most of my rifles have a bullet range/bullet drop for the particular load taped to the underside of the stock in 50 yard increments. On testing for an accurate load, the bullet is the most important part. After finding an accurate load/bullet, I use the ballistic tables and plot the bullet path out to 600 yards. Then I use the line-of-sight line to determine the optimum sighting for long range. Once the two crossover points are determined, I go to the range and test the paper findings making sure the horizontal path is as close to center as possible. Then when shooting at a target, animal or human, the only factor left is determining the distance.

At one time there was a person in Shotgun News selling bullets by the caliber and bullet weight. For a 100 grain 243 as an example, he would send you ten each of all the manufactured bullets in that weight and caliber for testing in your rifle which would save your from buying full boxes of bullets.

I am also thinking about carrying one of my 10MM instead of the Rossi 44 Spl which would not be enough firepower in a bad situation. Winter carry is no problem but summer will be another matter.

This isn't about specific firearms or ammunition or anything else like that. That's not what this thread is about. This thread is about being vigilant and being prepared, no matter what tools or methods you employ.

It's funny that what I used to think of as overkill 9 years ago (when I got serious about carrying) is commonplace for me now.

I have a few. Except what good is the truck rifle that's in the trunk if you're in a mall or church? They're always attacking "soft" targets it seems.

Last month on Christmas Eve, before heading to my folks' place for dinner, I went out to the range and had a practice session. I mentioned it later and Dad asked me what rifle I'd been playing with - he's always been interested in my shooting, hell he's the one who taught me to shoot a LONG time ago. Anyway, out of the blue he asked me if I thought that there was trouble coming that could make one very glad to have some SD/HD capability. I replied in the affirmative; that was the end of the discussion but the thing that struck me was that HE had started it, not me, and he has never talked about that before. So yeah, I think people are starting to worry, or at least consider the possibility. And I'll be talking to him more about it in the coming months. I've also been carrying a lot more often than I used to, too (never leave the house without one anymore, except to work where it's prohibited Roll Eyes ).

That is what the Glock is for.

Sure, they have the advantage in capacity and accuracy. However, saying you don't have a chance with your Glock, quite simply, isn't true.

Say a guy walks into your church, walks right past you, stops middle aisle, and starts shooting. I'd say you have 16 chances to stop him.

As jljones pointed out a few years ago, someone could have stopped Aurora with a J-frame.

How could you possibly know what they'll be carrying?
