I contributed early yesterday and neglected to comment in the thread, but since you’re here I’d like to say “welcome”, and that I’m happy to be able to help out. Congrats on being back on U.S. soil!

Hello members of the SIGforum,

This is Mike Evans (mevans51). I am a new member of this forum. In the words of the Grateful Dead, "what a long strange trip it's been." You may have read parabellum's post about my recent history and resulting problems abroad in Turks and Caicos. Rest assured, it is a nightmare I could never have dreamed up on my own.

I am by nature an optimistic person. Running a small family cattle ranch in central Texas for 65 years requires optimism and faith in God. Many of the factors that determine each year's success or failure are beyond your control. You hang on when times are tough, and save up in times of plenty. In all cases, you trust in God and help your neighbors when needed.

I am a fourth generation cowman, the son of a decorated WWII medical officer, and the grandson of a Texas Ranger. I was raised to shoot straight, love the United States of America, and the State of Texas. I am proud to say that there were two member of the Evans family defending the Alamo. Reading your posts has led me to believe that we are of a like mind about our rights and responsibilities as gun owners and patriotic citizens.

I look forward to our future conversations. I am humbled by your support, and thank you for your generosity from the bottom of my heart. Words fail to adequately convey the gratitude I feel for this new SIG forum family. God is good, and by His grace I am spending the holidays with my wife, two daughters and son-in-laws, and my 6-month-old grandson, ON US SOIL. Hallelujah!!!

Merry Christmas to all and may God bless you!

- Mike

Heck of a first post Mr Evans! Glad you’re home with your family and on here!! Merry Christmas!

Done. I'm in for the karma.

I don't know what to pray for other than God get you out of trouble quickly and restore you well to your family.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

This could have easily been me or anyone I call friend. I won’t be able to until I get paid toward the end of the month but I can give a bit. Maybe more next month. Wish I could do more.

We're approaching the 10K mark. Let's hit it by Christmas.

I know we're asking a lot for our new friends. I know that economic times are bleak. Many of us can't afford to give to such a cause, whether or not we desire to do so, but if you have the means, let the spirit of Christmas move you.

Once again, thanks to all of you. I am appreciative of the response. Y'know, there aren't many places that would do this for people they barely know. I am proud of you guys.

We're so, so close to that 10k milestone.

In fact, we're $1,289 close and I'm going to ask you all to do something to close that gap for me.

If I divvy it up between all of us, that's just about an extra $12. That's the cost of a Big Mac meal where I live and I would be glad to get Mike a Big Mac after all he's been through.. and I bet you would too.

So how about it?

You've already been generous once before..
I'd like for you to dig just a little deeper in your couch cushions, rummage around your spare change drawer one more time, check your piggy bank for an extra dollar or twelve, and drop $12.00 more in there for Mike.. and that would push us right over that $10k mark just in time for Christmas!
