good point in this article

Biden and his team precipitated this crisis by pulling the military out of Kabul and Bagram before evacuating US citizens, allies, and Afghan partners

then had to redeploy troops into the Kabul airport

"The redeployment to seize the airport was the bare minimum needed to even have an opportunity to get anyone out, but the tallies miss the point."

Did we? Or is this stuff signed over to the ANA? I can see the US military leaving MRAPs and other difficult/expensive to move stuff but I seriously doubt the NVGs and other sensitive stuff is actually on US property books.

The NVG's the ANASF received from us are old, mainly PVS-7's, pilots and SOF units received PVS-14's or, whatever is comparable with their avionics.
Captured Taliban/AQ equipment has had commercial NVG, along with Russian and Chinese brand optics. The VAST majority of them had no clue how to use them let alone how to integrate or, maintain them. They are resourceful so, we shouldn't underestimate hillbilly ingenuity.

We can argue the level of capability of the material and the ingenuity of those that posses it, matters not.

Two things.

1. These people will be happy to kill by smashing heads with sticks and rocks, so anything above that is merely convenience to them.

2. Leavening a half eaten MRE is too much to let fall into such people's hands. What we have allowed is unconscionable.

We went into this country, under the banner of security for the USA, and during that time, created a different life for a generation of people.

Like the politics of that or hate it, we own it and to exit like we have is abhorrent and wrong, and doing what we have, the way we have makes trying to re-engage and unfuck this is like trying to screw our way back to virginity.

There is no way to lessen the burden of this wrong. Nothing justifies this end, nothing.

And the complete disregard of the life and wealth, earned and spent by American people, that is being pissed away before our eyes is infuriating to me.

I know what I was trained to do and what I used to do, and that I cannot, but sit here and see it going down the shitter, causes me great anguish.

This is and will be an indelible stain in the fabric of this republic. It shall not be forgotten nor forgiven, nor should it be.

And I don't want anyone here to think I am "directing" any of this towards them personally.

Monkey,
Didn't we do the same thing back in '75?

"See ya, Charlie! We're out!"

I seriously can't EVER see Afghanastan becoming any sort of tourists destination in 40 years like Viatnam has become.

I'm cynical enough to believe this is all planned.
Watch for a 'Look! Squirrel!' moment in a week or so to try to avert attention.

What you're saying is the Biden administration planned to destroy itself. This debacle reflects badly upon all people involved with this botched withdrawal, not just Joe Biden. That includes Harris. To say that they planned all of this just the way it's turning out makes no sense.

2 first world governments held emergency meetings last night.

One was held by the USA in the House of Representatives by Nancy Pelosi; to push through 3,500,000,000,000+ dollars stimulus

Great Britain on the other hand had an emergency meeting in parliament; to figure out how to rescue their citizens from Afghanistan.

What country do we live in?

I think it was planned but is turning out completely differently than those incompetent assholes expected.
Exactly as anyone with a few functioning brain cells expected, but not what they thought.

With a hard stop to Western activity in Kabul assumed for August 31st, as well as the civilian evacuation presently ongoing, the British armed forces and consular staff presently working at Kabul airport and in the city also need to leave in time. Making sure there is sufficient time and capacity to move out the roughly 1,000 military personnel means the civilian airlift could finish as soon as Friday or Saturday this week.

Then, that changes the meaning of what you said. When you say "this is all planned" that means what we see happening now. There is no way these power-hungry totalitarians would surrender the White House, and that is going to be the result of "all this."

They didn't plan shit. Their arrogance makes them believe they're so much smarter than everyone else, and makes them believe that all they have to do is wave their precious hand to move Heaven and Earth. The fact is, though, as a group, leftists are some of the stupidest people on the planet. They're children who think their fantasies are the real world.

Yes, and for that reason, it should have been standing protocol, regulations and orders to never allow it to get to that point again.

We expected the agreement signed in Vietnam to be honored, as such was our experiences from WWII in both theaters and Korean Ceasefire, that even with the continual issues of violations, has been observed in spirit, and both sides continue to work with diplomacy. A long running "mini-Cold War".

We knew going into anything in West/Southwest/Central Asia is a Tar Baby, and care must be taken to handle such a thing.

There are no surprises in that area of the world. We know what we will deal with.

A metaphor.

When it comes to finding an explosive device, sometimes it is better to blow it up from a distance, then get intimate with it and attempt to defuse it.

There was a joint German-American operation last night picking up 21 German citizens from the city with US helicopters. Also reports of another ca. 30 transfered to the airport by KSK operators on the ground in three separate missions, but no confirmation of details. probably because those weren't the last.

By previously stated numbers, this makes about 400 nationals evacuated, and maybe 50 remaining. In total, the Luftwaffe has airlifted out a little over 5,000 until this afternoon, of which more than 3,600 Afghans, the balance made up of citizens from 40-plus other nations; 200 Italians have been mentioned. Reportedly German operations will end on Friday, though one source suggested it would be today already.

Parliament retroactively authorized the deployment today. The four centr-ish parties from both government and opposition voted unanimously for it; there were about 90 abstentions, nine votes against but also 35 in favor from the left and right fringe due to problems of reconciling ideology and reality. But the domestic politics and the impact on the current election campaigns are probably something for the thread where I sporadically update on the later.

Interesting item from a well connected guy interviewed on Fox. Several Americans trapped in Afghanistan are staying with Afghan translators and other Afghan friends. The Americans have been in contact with the embassy. The embassy has told them to come to the airport, but leave the Afghans to their fate. They can't come.

These include Afghans who have visas who were told we would evacuate. So imagine telling people who are sheltering you, tough luck. I am out of here. Tough spot to be in.

The UK Daily Mail which seems to cover a lot of news our own corrupt media chooses to ignore is saying that Dementia Joe is bugging out in 72 more hours, not waiting until 31 August now:

EXCLUSIVE: 'We're leaving in 72 HOURS - it doesn't matter who's left on the ground.' Former CIA officer says he's been told the deadline to evacuate Americans from Kabul is far shorter than August 31 cutoff

I honestly don't think this bumbling old fool in the WH even comprehends what is coming and it's going to end with him resigning soon. I say he's not POTUS by Christmas or sooner.
