taliban spokesperson:

"When Usama bin Laden became an issue for the Americans, he was in Afghanistan. Although there was no proof he was involved, now we have given promises that Afghan soil won't be used against anyone,"

When asked if he really believes bin Laden wasn't involved in Sept. 11 attacks in 2001, Mujahid doubled down.

"So it sounds like, even now, after all this, you're accepting no responsibility," Engel responded.

"There is no evidence. Even after 20 years of war, we have no proof he was involved," Mujahid replied. "There was no justification for war. It was [an] excuse for war."

A 9/11 Commission report noted that the "9/11 attack was driven by Usama Bin Laden."

"As final preparations were under way during the summer of 2001, dissent emerged among al Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan over whether to proceed," the report said. "The Taliban's chief, Mullah Omar, opposed attacking the United States. Although facing opposition from many of his senior lieutenants, [bin Laden] effectively overruled their objections, and the attacks went forward.

"Upon this political and ideological foundation, [bin Laden] built over the course of a decade a dynamic and lethal organization," the report continued. "He built an infrastructure and organization in Afghanistan that could attract, train, and use recruits against ever more ambitious targets. He rallied new zealots and new money with each demonstration of al Qaeda's capability. He had forged a close alliance with the Taliban, a regime providing sanctuary for al Qaeda."

I didn't see it in the image that sdy posted on page 58, but other images showed the mountain ridge behind and overlooking the military side of Kabul International. It may have been already posted; but the artillery on the ridge isn't our's or the ANA's now. Frown

I hope this cast of F-ing morons in Washington have considered all such options for this weekend and put lots of resources on high alert and ready to go at a moments notice.

Obviously it has its limitations, but keep in mind that there is still U.S. air power on station. Given that it's the Biden administration, I'm hoping that they are authorized to carry live ordnance that they are authorized to carry live ordnance...but they are there.

Sorry, no live ammo allowed, but lots of flyers and pamphlets for Critical Race Theory, Diversity Inclusion, and Climate Change.

The odds are stacked against them but, if there's a place/people to resist the Taliban, this is it

Anti-Taliban resistance makes modest gains outside Panjshir

Thanks much. WSJ, Rasmussen and others are recycling the initial report. Noted an Italian aircraft was fired on while trying to evacuate.

I hit the link I posted for an update; it took me to CBS News live instead when I hit the banner in red for breaking news. I guess some of the C-notes in the pallets were distributed out for someone to be a martyr. Thought occurred to me also that the attacks were probably timed to happen about when Joe would be having his morning press circle here.

Now at least 2 explosions and a current firefight. Abbey gate area.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact.

A U.S. official indicated that the attack set off a firefight at Abbey Gate, where last night, there were 5,000 Afghans and potentially some Americans seeking access to the airport.

A second explosion happened outside the Baron Hotel , sources say.

from last week:

"The 169 Americans were retrieved after another country informed US commanders that citizens had gathered at the Baron Hotel near the airport, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said Friday evening."

And Fox news supposedly has a video of them driving one of the abandoned Black Hawks around on the ground. They figured out how to start them, now just use our money to pay someone to teach them to fly.

Thanks a lot biden and company.
