Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner mercenary group and longtime friend of Putin, has been berating the Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu publicly for months, blaming him for failures in Ukraine.

Wagner took the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut while the Russian army seemed to be accomplishing nothing. This raised Prigozhin’s stock and he became even more outspoken.

Wagner retreated and handed Bakhmut over to the Russian army. Prigozhin mocked the army and predicted they would lose all his gains.

Prigozhin was told his troops would need to sign new agreements with the army, effectively putting them under the control of Prigozhin’s nemesis, defense minister Shoigu.
Prigozhin said no even after Putin endorsed the plan.

Friday, Prigozhin released a message saying the entire pretext for the invasion was a lie concocted by the defense minister for his own aggrandizement.

Hours later, Prigozhin claims defense minister Shoigu had bombed a camp full of his troops. He announced a “March for Justice” which he said wasn’t a coup but would rid the government of Shoigu.

The Wagner Group has launched a military coup and are now fighting against the Russian Army.

Around 30 000 Wagner soldiers have now taken control of a large area north of the Russian city of Rostov.

Russian police officers meeting in Central Rostov to discuss what to do as the Wagner Group takes control of the city following the military coup.

A Wagner Group military convoy has left the city of Rostov and is heading towards the city of Voronezh.

Voronezh is 6 hours from Moscow by car

all sounds pretty crazy

Much more in the full article.

“Russia's Wagner militia forces are headed towards Moscow on Saturday after chief Yevgney Prigozhin initiated a military coup against Putin and his regime, which has seen the group take key cities and mock the President, who called them 'traitors'.

Putin addressed the Russian people on Saturday, warning that the military leader had 'stabbed him in the back', as Moscow is on lockdown as troops dig in in preparation to defend the city.

Prigozhin and his feared 25,000-strong Wagner militia have control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, saying they are 'ready to die' as they vow revenge for a military strike from Putin's forces that the mercenary leader says killed some of his men.

The unit passed through the halfway city of Voronezh and have reached Lipetsk as they advance on Moscow, seeing negligible resistance. A huge oil depot was seen bursting into flames in the city, with a helicopter in the air at the time.
……
A message posted on the Wagner Telegram channel on Saturday said: 'Putin made the wrong choice. All the worse for him. Soon we will have a new president.' …”

I'm proud to say I have no idea what the fuck is going on. Big Grin

But, uh, yeah- it looks like theater; like a stage production.

This is me>> ????

Cue the big musical number of this show: "Today Makes No Sense Since Yesterday"

...or something like that.

Hey, you know what would be cool? To see Putin hanging upside down in Red Square, like Mussolini.

Maybe after intermission...

I was thinking when I heard Wagner was being used as cannon fodder, and Prigozhin was being openly critical, that something will happen.
Well Russia tried to wipe them out.
We'll see how strong Russia's defenses are.
Or who jumps in to help.

Kudos to you, Bob, because unlike most memes of quotes of famous persons, Churchill really did say this. An October, 1939 radio address:
quote:
“I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest.”

Sheesh! It looks like good help is hard to find no matter where you go. Even for the murdering, ex-KGB, Russian President.

This all smacks of some planned 87D chess theater by Putin and the Wagner guy, probably to suck Western countries into supporting the supposed “coup”, and using that as a pretext to start a war with the West. I can’t believe the head of Wagner actually thinks he has any chance of winning, especially since he doesn’t have any air power, and probably minimal air defense except for a few MANPADS. The key will be whether the Russian Army actually goes in hard and starts taking them out en mass.

Aren’t both Wagner and regular Russian troops in Syria? Like to know what’s happening there. If they’re still best buddies, it’s probably all fake.

The Wagner group is reportedly ~3 hours away from Moscow, and it looks like the high-ranking government types are starting to flee...

Putin's jet flew northwest towards St. Petersburg, but then the the plane turned off its transponder.

The jet owned by Deputy Prime Minister Manturov flew to Turkey, as did the jet of Belarussian President Lukashenko.

Lots of other private jets leaving Moscow currently.

Russian military units have reportedly been standing down and joining in with Wagner.

The Russian government is apparently trying to pull together a defensive line outside Moscow using police and national guard.

Kind of surprised to wake up to read that parts of Wagner group have left Rostov-on-Don and taken control of military facilities in the city of Voronezh, about 500 km (310 miles) south of Moscow..

Conversely, we've given Ukraine $115 billion and don't have much to show for it. For free, a money grubbing mercenary has accomplished more in a day.

He absolutely knows the capabilities of the Russian army.
Just as many regulars are dissatisfied with this war and how they're treated.

The real question is will regular Russians take up arms against Wagner?
Or will more flee to surrounding countries.
I'm wagering they flee.

Oh, please. You had millions upon millions of MINDLESS sheep in this country, parroting "We stand with Ukraine" with half of them thinking "Ukraine" is a species of endangered tropical bird.

Do not give these idiots any credit.

Just read on UK daily mail that they think Putin has already fled Moscow and gone towards Saint Petersburg.

Shit is getting… Interesting there.

Isn’t the head of this Wagner group Putin’s former chef, lol?
