I'd imagine that presenting that assertion to one's non-Jewish neighbors may have been a source of some early tension. More recently, I think it's always easy to target minorities who aren't likely to be able to fight back. | |||

One of the major problems with the "chosen people" concept is that races, ethnic and cultural groups have changed throughout this world's history. It has been argued many times, for example, that many of the "Jews" of today are no more related to the Hebrews of biblical lore than I am (Nordic and Asian heritage). Likewise, it has been said that the true "Israelite" descendants (which is in itself a loaded term) are the peoples of Britain and America. Who are the Semites, and what does "anti-semitic" really mean? The answers may surprise you, as they suprised me when I looked into the subject. | |||

One word: Jealousy. We spent a some time with Mrs. slosig’s distant cousins who are Jehovah’s Witness. Very nice people, and while they did try to encourage us to convert, they were low key and respectful about it. The thing that struck me was how they operated as a community, trying whenever possible to do their business with other members of “their tribe.” Frankly, the first thought that came to mind was, “That is almost like the Jewish people.” Adversity builds strength. I’d guess that the many trials faced by the Jewish people have led them to work harder, to work together, and to do their best to build a better life for their kids. How many people who are handed an easy life push hard to make it better? How many people who think they are entitled to more think it is great that someone else worked hard and has more than they do? | |||

I'm married to a Jewish woman, and my kids are Jewish. Some of my comments may more apply to the past than now, but certainly influence the present. They are a tight knit group that possibly fundamentally is mostly interested in people outside their group as customers and employees. Traditional Jewish law has distinct difference on how to treat Jews vs non Jews. They are driven, dote on their children, and education and career is very important. Affluence is very important and as a blanket statement, only wealthy people are respected or worth talking about positively. I suppose it isn't technically racism, Jews hold Jews in higher esteem than non Jews. The crap my wife, and of course me, had to go through to marry me is pretty amazing. I look back at how much it shook her family and her vision of how her life was planned, I'm surprised she didn't throw in the towel on us at some point. I'm pretty much quite opposed to who she and her family imagined she'd marry. She assured her parents several times she'd never marry me. I think it can be summed simply, exclusive affluent group with different customs. | |||

Getting back to the original question of this thread...many Jews have been the biggest proponents of immigration. Immigration of ethnic, racial and cultural groups they wouldn't choose to live with themselves, spread everywhere else and mixed throughout the world. It is not without reason that Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany rose to power. | |||

I think there is no one reason. I think some hate them for this and some for that. But, as a Christian, I cannot see how any Christian could hate them for having wanted to get rid of Jesus for upsetting their apple cart. Or, at least the elders apple cart. Not exactly a reason, but many years ago I noticed that there was a strong correlation between antisemitism and mental illness. Though which is the chicken and which the egg, I couldn't say. More recently, it occurred to me that the same is true of groups and nations as it is of individuals. Those groups (or nations) that are the most antisemitic are also those most dysfunctional, bordering on insanity. Perhaps it is as simple as Genesis 12:3 implies.
