I swear I had something for this |
Honda is supposedly paying Red Bull more money to put Tsunoda in the #2 car. With Honda going to Aston Martin next year and this year being Tsunoda's last without a new contract, it's over with him in the Red Bull family regardless. He'd probably score a drive with another team if he does well in the dreaded #2 Red Bull seat, but probably wouldn't be looked at otherwise.

For the extra $10 million Honda paid to get him in that seat before the Japanese GP, I'd think he's got the seat for the rest of the year No, Daoism isn't a religion

I'm guessing a '67 Honda with its nest of snakes exhaust, no? The last year of no wings or advertising. I rarely drove it in the great sim Grand Prix Legends, too fragile and high strung. ![]() **I see the article cites the '65, not dissimilar to the '67.** Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

The RA272 & RA273 are pretty similar, from the outside appearance. 1965 RA272, looks to be the same one in the photo with the RB 1967 RA273 ![]() The Enemy's gate is down.

One of the very best looking GP cars ever. Those pics need a driver for scale, just to show how tiny those cars were. There's that nest of snakes in the '67. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Hard to tell how Yuki's doing vs Max from today. The sparks from the cars kept setting the grass on fire in FP2, and Franco Colapinto is one step closer back to the grid after Jack Doohan plowed into the wall in FP1. It looks like the whole left side of his car will need rebuilt.

FP1 was a good first impression for Yuki, just a tenth off Max. FP2 a bit of a waste with 4 red flags. Grass fires reminiscent of China[?] before where we had similar. Hopefully less of an issue tomorrow & Sunday. The way Doohan spun, looked unforced from the few replays. Definitely did a number on the car. Didn't look like DRS was open, but the spin looked similar in how it went off. The Enemy's gate is down.

Alpine is reporting that Doohan didn't manually shut his DRS and took Turn 1 at full speed with his flap open. At least when Alonso spun out, he got the car stopped before he damaged it. Here's hoping the 2026 car works out better because he's starting to look and drive like an old racer past retirement.

![]() The offboard shot made it look like the DRS was closed, guessing that changed when he got off the throttle as it went off track. The Enemy's gate is down.

I thought the DRS would close up on its own, but I got reminded that Turn 1 a Suzuka was taken at full throttle and DRS only auto-closes when the brake pedal is used. https://www.the-race.com/formu...tice-shunt-revealed/

Is it deactivated by the brake, or when the accelerator comes off WOT? Either way, it was closed as it went off track. Same reason there's no DRS on the back straight into 130R ![]() Though, SkyF1 commentary did mention that the turn-in speed at T1 isn't much different to 130R due to the elevation difference between them [relatively uphill to 130R & downhill to T1] The Enemy's gate is down.

That's something I never heard discussed before today. Seems like there would be something that shuts the DRS off automatically. One of the commentators on F1TV tried to say that he was trying to do turn 1 with the DRS on (open) when he should have said flat out without lifting. That's the reason the driver has to tap the brake even if they are doing the corner without lifting off the throttle. No way they could do the corner without the rear wing downforce (as shown by what happened). They also said there is a button on the steering when DRS is open and showed a light that indicated the DRS is open. In any case, a huge hit that showed again how amazingly safe the cars are today. Now if they could have predicted the dry grass would catch fire. It's not the first time this has happened at a track. Bet they water the grass tonight. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

The same button that opens the DRS, also closes it, I believe. Keeps them from having to lift or tap the brake when they can hit the turn flat out. The Enemy's gate is down.

Seems like a safer option would be to have the button spring loaded so you hold it on and when you release it, for any reason, it closes. More of a fail/safe mode. I'll bet there will be some discussion after this weekend, even if it's not an issue at most tracks. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Interesting analysis. https://www.planetf1.com/featu...apanese-gp-drs-crash It looks like like Doohan tried tapping the brake to deactivate the DRS while holding down the throttle, but it didn’t work.

Well, there still setting the grass on fire. Hopefully, it ends up raining like was forecasted. Otherwise, we're going to get VSCs or SCs every time thid happens and possibly a red flag if one of the fires gets too large. On the Red Bull front, Lawson outqualified Yuki, but both were beaten by Hadjar who was having belt issues. Not sure where it was biting him, but rumors are it was like a cheap hotel: No Ballroom... We'll have to wait for tomorrow to see if Max has race pace or just a bloody fast lap.

Yuki has a hole to dig out of. Max & the McLarens looking strong with Mercedes & Ferrari not far behind. Could be a fun fight at the front if everyone keeps their noses clean on lap 1. Hadjar, was an interesting one, cryptic on the radio in FP3 & Quali. Glad TK got down there to get the scoop. 3-5g with a hitch in your giddyup doesn't sound like a good time. The Enemy's gate is down.
