Looks to be a lot less structure in front of the driver, hmmm.

Looking at that shot from above, it appears much of the length reduction is at the rear and a little at the front
It would be nice to also see a shot with the front tires aligned so we could tell better.

I'm sure, as we get closer, that we'll see a lot of comparisons to the '21 spec.

Turkey to Replace Singapore

quote:

Formula 1 have announced that the Turkish Grand Prix will return to the calendar this season, with the race at Istanbul Park set to take place in early October, on the weekend originally scheduled to host the Singapore Grand Prix.

Following the news that the Marina Bay race cannot go ahead as planned on October 3rd, F1 will instead be racing around Intercity Istanbul Park – the circuit where Lewis Hamilton clinched his seventh World Championship title last year.

Earlier this season the Turkish Grand Prix was removed from the calendar due to international travel restrictions but at the time the promoter had requested the potential to re-join the calendar later in the season if possible.

A statement from F1 said: "After discussions with other promoters we are confident that we will be able to travel to the following race under our strict safety protocols.

"The Formula 1 community will continue to travel this season with stringent safety measures that has allowed us to travel safely this season. So far this season we have conducted over 44,000 tests with 27, positive cases a rate of 0.06%, with most coming during the earlier part of the season.

"Alongside this a significant proportion of the F1 community has been vaccinated already and we are confident that all will have had the opportunity to do so by the end of the summer. We will continue to operate in a way that protects the safety of our personnel and the communities we visit."

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula1, said: “We are delighted to be coming back to Turkey to Intercity Istanbul Park circuit. We hope to see another fantastic race again in one of the best tracks in the world.

"We want to thank the Intercity Istanbul Park management and Mr. Vural Ak for his personal efforts to make this event to happen. We have shown that we can continue to adapt and there is huge interest in our sport and the hope from many locations to have a Grand Prix.

"We have had very good conversations with all the other promoters since the start of the year and continue to work closely with them during this period.”

Boooo. If Indy couldn’t work out, then it should have been a COTA doubleheader. Turkey is a boring Tilke track with one interesting turn that you can’t make a pass on unless someone goes off the track.

Just got around to watching the French GP today. Nice to see Horner outsmart Wolff in this one. Great race for Max and team Red Bull!

Bottas penalty puts him starting 5th
Tsunoda penalty drops him to 11th, which puts Russell in the top 10 on the grid.
Ricciardo seemed to lose the pace he appeared to have yesterday, not a great quali performance from him.

Either Ricciardo is really slow and the McLaren is fast, or Norris is proving to be a driver that can bring a car past where it should be. Russell did this today also with the Williams. Hamilton is good but seemed out of sorts all weekend. Bottas is better than most give credit but he has nothing but bad luck. Verstappen - damn good apparently.

Hope it stays dry and we get a fun a race tomorrow. Curious how tough DannyR proves to be after this - has to be hard having this kid beat you in the same hardware time and again.

I think DR is still adapting his driving to the MCL, he never really seemed at home in the Renault like he did at RBR. Norris seems to really suit the car well & his results show it. The move to MBZ power probably helps too.

Well that was an hour and a half that I won't get back. All the years of complaints about F1 being a boring watch; yeah that was encapsulated in today's race. None of the drama of the French GP, just a clinical spanking by Verstappen and RB. Next week will probably be more of the same. MB being befuddled and at a loss is NOT the type of melodrama that makes any of this "action" fascinating or interesting to watch. Damn this sport needs some energy from the mid-fielders.

Very short lap, coupled with no great setups to pass (like the Monza chicanes), about what was expected.

Tires shift 1 compound softer next weekend, not sure if that'll make any appreciable difference.

Crazy that only the top 4 weren't lapped.

Hopefully a better race next week with teams having time to analyze where they could have done better and the softer tires should help.
The track didn't seem to be all that hard to pass on as shown by the Ferrari's. For some reason all the midfield cars were bunched up but nobody could make the move. Everyone seemed to be too concerned with making it a one stop race but Perez showed that a second set of fresh tires could have worked out, they just waited a lap or two too late to make the call.
Russell just can't seem to get a break. Maybe he can have similar speed next week and a bit of luck too.

a ho hum race, but very nice to see Hamilton the loser yet again

Ferrari actually made good progress today, and Bottas should count his stars that the race wasn't two additional laps long

Crazy quali.

Congrats to Norris & Russell. Curious if there's a penalty coming for the birthday boy [Vettel].

Some great drives in that qualifying session. Norris and Russell bringing their cars beyond where they had any right to be. Fernando too but unfortunately the slowing traffic blocked him from a rightful Q3. Ocon and DannyR continue to disappoint. Alpha Tauri up there in the fight. Tomorrow should be interesting with such a mixed grid and I suspect some of the cars that didn’t do well in qualifying may have a better race - and as usual possible rain. Merc had no answers today.

Vettel is getting a 3 place penalty and blaming the other drivers because they were hitting the brakes in the “wrong” parts of the track. This is Vettel we’re talking about, so nothing is ever his fault.

Good race, but the FIA needs to stop with the stupid penalties and let racers…well race. Both Horner and Seidl agreed. Wonder if they will adjust that for Silverstone. Getting more and more curious how the smaller 2022 cars will race and who will get it right for next season.

Just ignore Max and it was a great race, except for (most of) the penalties.
Kimi? Not sure what he was doing there on the last lap. Must have had his mind somewhere else.
Yuki seems to be trying to take the heat off of Mazepin. Once over the line was bad, twice, not sure what to say. Maybe Marko needs to park him for a race to get his attention. He shows occasional flashes of speed when he is over-driving but when he's driving within his limits he's not all that fast. In January they seemed to think Perez would keep the seat warm for the year and he'd be ready to partner Max next year.
Otherwise, lots of good racing throughout the field. Sometimes they needed to have a split screen to show all the action.

Yep, apart from the penalty fest, and Max running away at the front. A great race.
IMO, a few of the penalties were a bit harsh, for what looked like hard racing. From the onboards, it didn't look like any of them opened up the wheels to close the gap, apart from the brief oversteer at T6.

Re: Yuki, yes the line is the line, but he was just barely to the left of it on entry. For as late on the straight as it comes up, he should've been in the proper place, but just barely off.
