Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best

Got some different bullets and had to test out a new 9mm handload, so I went back to the range this morning after dropping NOah off for work. The car said it was 21 degrees out, so it also seemed like a good opportunity to test out my new gloves.

I've been wearing Mechanix gloves for years at work, but they don't do much besides keep the wind off when it gets truly cold out. I've been in a few situations where I was stuck outside for hours in subzero temperatures holding a perimiter, and by the end wasn't even sure if I could use my hands to shoot if I had to. So I've been on the hunt for something warmer that still allows some dexterity.

Lo and behold Mechanix makes an insulated version of their gloves, and it even comes in the elastic wrist variety that I like for quick on and off. I've worn them at work for about a month, and while it hasn't been below 20 yet, they are definitely much warmer than the standard gloves.

At the range they allowed enough dexterity that I was able to load mags (barely). Coming out of the holster and getting my finger into the trigger guard was a bit of a challenge, but once I got it in there it didn't seem to inhibit my shooting much. I was a bit slower, and a couple of points down, but I was also coming from under a sweatshirt AND a jacket this morning, because it was COLD, so I'd say they passed the test.

92fstech, that is very impressive, especially with the cold and the gloves.

A suggestion: silk glove liners add an extra layer of heat retention under any other gloves without sacrificing dexterity.

I've found them useful under my light and heavy motorcycling gloves to adapt to varying wind-chill challenges.

campmor.com has them

Thanks for the suggestion, I may give that a try. I have some nice merino wool liners that I got from Midway last year but they were sized kinda large and I'd like something tighter fitting, but midway went out of stock before I could order the next size down.

I shot around 10 targets. These are the best too. I couldn't shoot from concealment, so I placed a gun on the table and use the timer before picking up for the table.

Sorry, been busy with trying to juggle work, family holiday stuff, and the new puppy. I think you posted the highest score, David, with that 97. That was some good work! Do you want to pick the next one?

There was a post about him in the lounge after we got him, but it's worked it's way down through the pages by now. He's just a shelter pup...pedigree indeterminate. He had three siblings, that came in at the same time. We just had him back for a checkup today and they told us that one of the families who adopted one of his siblings did a DNA test on their pup and it came back 35% German Shepherd, 27% American Pitbull, 21% "supermutt", 9.5% Pug, and 6% Rottweiler. I've decided supermutt is what we're gonna go with, lol.

His name is Moose, he's about 12 weeks old, and as of today he's about 16.5 lbs. He's half psycho and half cuddles. If we keep him active he stays pretty chill in his downtime. I took him on my morning run this morning for the first time and he kept up just fine...wife said he slept all morning after I left for work, lol.

Richard. Is this the new challenge? If yes, I need to order the target because it looks larger than anything I can print on. Please advise on exactly what we are doing next.

I was editing and re-editing for a future match.

Did not expect it to be seen and did not want to step on David's toes.

The link should go to an 8 1/2 x 11" printable target. We used it a year and a half ago.

POSTAL MATCH DESCRIPTION : LIGHT RIMFIRE RIFLE

https://www.jamestownrifleclub.org/lightrifle.html

"Our program is based on the NRA National Light Rifle Program, which is aimed at making this a "blow the dust off your lonely, neglected "RIMFIRE
(.17, .22, .22Mag ) in the closet and take it to the range and shoot" atmosphere. [ Plagiarized and modified, just sayin' --- ain't no Claudine Gay in this here shanty]
___
The only requirements for Light Rifle is that your rifle must weigh less than 8.5lbs (including sights/scope) and your trigger weight must not be less then 2.5lbs (for safety). Rifles are not categorized by action or sight type and magazines may be used to load and shoot your targets.
The Course of Fire is a total of 30 shots (3 targets) each week in the Standing position. Per NRA Rules, all shooters may rest their forearm in their side while shooting.
___
So, print 3 of these targets,
https://bisonballistics.com/do...-light-rifle-50-foot

The diameter of the black centers should be the official 1 7/8". You might have to adjust your image application and/or printer settings. Mine print correctly from Windows Photo Viewer but slightly smaller from Windows Paint.

post them at fifty feet, fire two shots on each record bull for total of 30, with unlimited shots on the sighter bullseye, all in a 15 minute period. There are six bullseyes Use the top center for unlimited sighters & the other five for record.
Again, two shots on each five target bulleyes on three targets for a total of thirty shots
( possible score 300).

These images are guides to scoring your match targets:

This is a re-entry match. You may enter several 30 shot targets, using the same rifle/sight combination, or with different ones.

Shot three targets:
T1: 85-1X T2: 89 T3: 89-1X
Remington 582, CCI Standard Vel, Leupold TurkeyPlex scope on 4X, offhand, 50 feet, NRA A-32 printable

Only shot sighters on the first target, 3 offhand were nines and a seven, then rested on that vibrating bench, two in X ring; so the rifle, scope, ammo can shoot.
The shooter needs improvement. Smile
