My 26.5 still gets significant range and holster time for edc. They're tough to beat, imho. My only complaint, and it isn't a huge deal, but living in AK where it's dark 6 months a year I'd like the ability to hang a light on it like the 43X can do. In every other metric the 26 is better for me than the 43X though. They're the same length.....ought to be able to put a light on it!! But great pick up at that price.

There's the Streamlight TLR-6 and the newer, higher output TLR-6HL.

I have a TLR-6 on my gen5 G26. The switches are awkward but the light mounts compactly on the pistol. The non-laser model is under a hundred dollars. You won't start any fires with 100 lumens but it'll light up a darkened garage just fine.

The TLR-6HL does not at the present time come in a non-laser model (I don't like lasers on firearms) but it puts out 300 lumens and that'll cover things niceley.

Hey! Thanks Para. As noted, I don't need a huge light. TLR6 is on its way. Not sure why I have spaced this option (I had TLR7sub on the brain). Appreciate it!

Wondering if someone can change my mind.,,

I haven’t been active on here in a very long time but I have been a member for over 20 years. Still shoot - have about a dozen pistols (Sigs, 1911s, Staccato, Beretta, a couple of .22s) but have never had a Glock. I haven’t shot one in over a decade but my impressions were:
- Really don’t like the grip angle - they point at the ceiling and I have to force an awkward adjustment
- Trigger nothing to write home about
- Incredibly reliable and durable I know but I have many guns that have never given me any failures in thousands of round counts so not a major differentiator (I do have some less reliable ones too but I don’t use them for protection - range toys only)
- Cheap but I’m fortunate enough that this isn’t a major issue for me - I’m limited more by space/desire not to have too many guns than cost
- Very ugly - subjective of course and not a major criteria (I put this last for a reason) but still could potentially have swayed me if I had any sort of lust for them (heck I bought a stainless Beretta 92FS just because I like how it looks).

So given this thread still hasn’t convinced me after 20+ years of shooting and accumulating guns, what am I missing? Do I need to revisit my thinking?

I think everyone should own at least 1 Glock, much like they should have at least one revolver.

Highly reliable, simple function, not a whole lot that can go wrong with it.
Availability of parts both factory and aftermarket is a plus.
I never really thought of them being ugly.
The Gen 4 and Gen 5 backstraps will help with your grip angle issue.

It depends on your wants and needs for this particular pistol, but if I could only have one, it would be my G45.
Full sized G17 frame with a compact G19 slide.

But with that, I favor my older Gen 2 Glocks.
No finger grooves is a plus for me on the Gen 2 and Gen 5.

I'd recommend going to a range and renting a few if that is an option.

In the end in Glock may not be for you.
There are certainly many a brand of firearms I have no use for, but Glock certainly isn't one of them.
Good luck..

For grip angle, there are adapters out there that pin onto factory Glock frames. I like the Grip Force Adapter, which not only provides a beavertail but also results in a more vertical grip angle. https://gripforceproducts.com/home

Or there are any number of Glock clones out there whose frames have different grip shapes/angles, like Shadow Systems, Lone Wolf, P80, PSA Dagger, Ruger RXM, etc. And once the RXM-style internal chassis catches on (Glock Gen 6?) the options for swapping grip styles will open up even more, like on the P320.

You can also permanently modify the Glock frame to change the grip shape/angle, but that's a bit drastic for a gun that you're not a fan of.

The trigger is even easier to change. Glock-compatible triggers and trigger components are some of the most widely available aftermarket parts in all of the gun world, and anyone can install Glock trigger components in minutes using step-by-step Youtube video tutorials. Even Glock offers their own replacement triggers now. Plus the Gen 5 triggers are better than their predecessors, so since it's been 10+ years since you tried one you may find nowadays that you don't need to swap it.

Or, like many folks choose to do instead, it's just a matter of practicing to get used to the idiosyncrasies of that platform, like you have to do with every new gun.

This has been mentioned in other threads, but Glock is no longer simply a brand of guns. It has reached platform status the way 1911, 10/22, and AR-15 have. Like those examples, you can build a Glock w/o using a single Glock OEM part. Given the expansive aftermarket options, it's easy to assemble a Glock-pattern pistol to your wants & preferences, and unlike 1911s, it's also relatively affordable to do so.

All this market competition has driven prices down. If you want an American-made & optic-ready Glock clone, you can get a Ruger RXM for $400. A PSA Dagger starts ~$300. TriStar is importing a Turkish-made, optic-ready G19 clone this year named the APOC that should have street pricing below $250. At those prices, it's difficult for me to justify other budget-conscious guns, such as Taurus G-series, Ruger Security, or KelTec.

Many Fudds & Boomers will howl at the moon when you mention it, but Glock Gen3 is the 21st century's 1911.

Will the Mec-Gar need a metal mag catch, like the Shield mag for the G43X?

As discussed previously in this thread these mags have 'dimple' for the catch as opposed to a 'hole'.
As well I didn't notice before that Standard Glock replacement floorplates will not work with this magazine

GLOCK® 17 9MM 18-ROUND

I'd imagine Shield is scratching their heads wondering why they didn't think of this.
Unless they just wanted to sell metal mag catches.. Wink

All true. My PPQ M2 and VPN have better triggers and ergonomics but I have a G19 too. It’s like a base model Toyota Tacoma, it just works and everybody makes accessories for it and parts are everywhere. If you could only buy one gun, you’d buy a Glock for all the reasons mentioned. But in our day when choosing a new gun is like an all you can eat Sunday brunch at the Belogio, there is something for everyone; buy what you want:

Beretta
CZ
FNH
Glock
HK
Ruger
SIG
S&W
Walther

All the above make high quality striker fired pistols the equal of Glock but with out the market penetration. If it was a TEOTWAWKI situation you’d buy the Glock as you’d know you’d have a better chance of keeping it running. But in 2025, that’s not an issue.

If they're as good as their 18rd Beretta 92 and P226 magazines, they'll be excellent. Mine have been flawless. I'm glad to see these are hitting the market, I'll have to pick some up once the feeding frenzy subsides a bit.

It's interesting about the baseplates, but as I think about it, I'm not too surprised. If these work out like I hope and believe they will, it won't be long before companies like Pearce and Tango Down are making extensions and baseplates. A +2 or +3 would be a nice option.
