i keep looking at a G19, but i wanted to ask what everyone thought about the differences between Gen 3 and Gen 4.

Does the duel recoil spring make much difference in overall recoil and shootablity.

last questions is the stippled finish (RTF) i think it's called, do you like it, or rather not have it.

The grip AND the new recoil spring help GREATLY in shooting the Gen 4 model 19. I disliked the Gen 3 for both reasons.

Even though my wife is 4'9" 125lb she loves shooting the Gen 4 19 too. She didn't care for shooting the Sig 229 in 9mm.

The grip change is the most notable change for me. Amazing the difference those lost 2mm in grip length make. In 9mm the new spring setup doesn't make all that much diff to me; I think the Gen3 9mm Glocks shot with great control as they were. The way my Gen3 G19 shoots now with additional tweaks, I won't give that pistol up until I'm six ft under. OTOH with .40SW I think the diff in felt recoil is more significant between the two generations.

The grip on the Gen 4's is an improvement to me. However, the department I work for refused to authorize the Gen 4's because of some of the internal updates (I believe it's because of the recoil spring). One of the range masters was making the Gen 4 cause FTE multiple times with multiple magazines. Couldn't do that with the Gen 3's (well, not as often anyways).

I know some Gen 4's that first came out had a incorrect recoil spring set up. Seems they fixed that, not saying that was the exact problem you guys had.

I love my M&P 9c, and have ordered a full-size but i am sure one day i will own at least one Glock and the G19 is the one i am drawn too. I love the weight, size to capacity ratio.

Glock just did a voluntary recall on the RSA's. But the ones we had gave us no issues.

Our Gen4's have been flawless.

Damn this thread Big Grin . I was going to try to prove this thread wrong but it happened. Then I finally got the Glock fever and bought a Gen3 G30. The amount of accessories and multiple levels of a high round count outweighed the cons for my purpose of the weapon. I was looking for a lightweight carry gun in a large caliber that also I could bring hiking with me. It has a great track record and I couldn't find a better alternative. I did look at some Sigs but if I roughed it up during a hiking trip, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.

Well, you only have two more purchases to go -- a G20SF in 10mm (that's a REAL big caliber!) and a G19, everyone's all-time favorite. Welcome to Glockdom.

LOL, parabellum: too funny. But I can guarantee you I will not buy a Glock; becasue here in Assachusetts, our glorious (ly stupid) attorney general has deemed the Glock unfit for sale and used bogus 'consumer protection' laws to ban the sale of any Glock manufactured after Nov of 98'. So the only Glocks I can buy here are at least 12 years old. My gun shop regularly gets police trade ins, and I was looking at a Model 27, but I just can't bring myself to pay $700 for a 12 year old Glock, when I could buy a brand new Sig for the same price.

I was at my gun club yesterday. Very contently shooting one of my 229 40s while thinking about buying my second HK P30. Felt a great disturbance in the force as a young gentleman arrived and started double tapping a silhouette with some really good and fast shots. He was shooting a mid size Glock and from his speed and seemingly lack of recoil, I assumed a 9mm. I commended him on his shooting but learned he was shooting a GEN4 23 !!!. I was shooting both 165gr and 180gr American Eagle and he let me try that Gen4 23 along side my 229 40. Holy shit. Shot it two hand, strong hand and weak hand. Very soft shooting with little muzzle flip and more straight back recoil. Shot the 23 back and forth with my 229 right there and that 23 shot softer than my 229. Again, the Gen4 Glock 23 has moved to the number one spot on my gotta buy one right now list. Bill

HK, Glock, Walther and SIG are my choice in handguns.

Coincidentally, I shot a buddies Gen 4 G23 along side his P229, and was amazed at how much better the heavier 229 slide handled the 40 than the Glock did. It has more muzzle flip and popped up to the side for me, and I actually think it shot worse than the Gen 3 40 cal Glocks (didn't know that was possible).

I guess everyone is different.

Got bit AGAIN by the Glock bug myself, I just recently picked up an old Gen.2 model 19...it is now my EDC (or at least as much as I can here in Ill.), it's just a nice all-around size and shoots like a house a fire! As much as it pains me too say it, this IS a nice pistol! Dale

My turn....I own a Gen 4 Glock 22 .40 cal and it's the gun I qualified with for my CCW. I'm very accurate with it, I love that gun! I'm a big Sig fan and plan to have more but I don't think I'll ever sell the Glock, it's the first gun I ever bought brandy-new. Cool

Just picked up a Gen 3 G19 this weekend. We've used Glocks around the shop for years as R&D hosts for different silencer designs. In fact, the current iteration of the Evolution 9 silencer was designed specifically for the G19. Now that factory extended and threaded barrels are available, it was time.

Hope my post is the one that puts it over the top! Razz My big green G21 is the only shooter I have remaining. Hanging onto it with a clenched fist. Got lots of mags and ammo for it. She is mine.
