Yeah, it ain't pretty when sportscasters try to talk about something other than sports. When I feel the need to reflect on life, I don't seek out the wisdom of sportscasters.

Actually, technically, he did die. They had to use an AED and CPR to get him back going on the field. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Only because "younger guys" are the ones most likely to be playing professional sports. Otherwise, it has nothing to do with age or size. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Man, too bad that Bob Costas wasn't sitting at the microphone last night. When it comes to sportscasters, no one is more pretentious, verbose and just outright full of shit as Bob Costas, a man in love with the sound of his own voice. It would have been so great to hear him go off into some hard-to-follow, flowery horse shit philosophy about life.

Technically, having one’s heart stop for a short time is not the commonly-accepted medical or legal definition of death. Exactly what constitutes death has been and is still somewhat controversial in those fields, but brief heart function cessation isn’t it. Being dead is something we don’t and can’t recover from, which is why one medical definition of the state is when all brain activity stops. Perhaps he’s dead now, but he wasn’t automatically dead when it stopped any more than countless other people who have had their heart stop—including during surgical procedures—died at that moment. If you’re posting, “I died three times on the operating table,” no, you didn’t die even once; otherwise you wouldn’t be here telling us about it. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. It is only a drill. If it had been a real life, you would have been given instructions about where to go and what to do.

Still finding my way |
I deduce something happened to a sportsball man? Funny how out of touch with pop culture I have gotten. As a human I have a vast array of emotions and have no problems with that. As a man I am in control of these emotions and I have no shame showing a tear or distress in extreme circumstances I certainly won't ever carry on like a child or a little girl in public nor even in private.

Wait, what? |
I went to East Tennessee State University and was at the game that Marc Buoniconti, son of Nick Buoniconti became a quadriplegic. It was a horrible, life changing injury and surely a blow to his teammates, but after was was taken off the field, the game went on. He was not forgotten, nor disrespected by play continuing. In fact, in his own words, he was proud that he stopped the running back for no gain. NFL players nowadays are such prima-donnas compared to not all that long ago. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

When I was growing up I don't think I ever saw Dick Butkus crying over an injured player from either side. Just a different time and generation.

No sensible reason the game needed to be postponed and they are now busy trying to reschedule it. This is more spillover from the great scamdemic and our society simply will not ever recover.

I was at the Ducks/Blues game when Jay Bouwmeester went into cardiac arrest on the bench during a TV timeout. Happened almost 3 years ago and I had an ice level view of the entire thing. Just sitting there and over he went. At first you didn't realize something happened other than perhaps someone slipping off the bench but then there was this mad flurry of activity. I thought a coach had a heart attack. The Blues players mostly left the bench area and Ryan Getzlaf of the Ducks and with the assistance of some Blues players, ripped the bench off so the medical staff could work on him. He was revived and taken to a local hospital. The game was suspended and made up a month later. None of the players cried and did the things on MNF. They went to their respective lockers and shortly after, the suspension was announced. But there was no crying or wailing. As a fan you certainly don't expect to see a fit player go into cardiac arrest but even in the stands afterward and in the departing crowd, there was no crying or lighting of candles or vigils at the hospital.

The whole thing is absurd. I don’t understand why this is as big a deal as it is. I’m sitting next to a guy who is watching ESPN and it’s all they are talking about every time I look over. I’ve seen that churches are holding prayer vigils. One of the talking heads started crying. The Eagles, who aren’t even involved, are suspending press conferences until Thursday “out of respect” ESPN just brought up 9/11 and how the league responded to that. 9/11. They might as well cancel the whole season. Cancel them all at this point. You know, out of respect. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Saw a few references to something happening last night on FB so I googled monday night football and saw where they postponed the game. I didn't see the crying and crap but wondered why the hell would they postpone the game. All those paying fans that showed up to watch a game and the TV crowed as well. I don't watch football and never have. But just wondering if the games will now be canceled every time one of the players gets something in an eye. Suckers!

Is this an appropriate place to complain about the $ BILLIONS that are spent BY TAXPAYERS on the NFL, mostly in stadium funding? Seriously, stop using our tax money for this shit. .

I have no problem with men crying when the circumstances warrant it. I think cancelling the game was unnecessary and against the interests of the fams in attendance and at home watching on TV. "The show goes on" should apply here. I am not a fan of football (or any other team sport), but I think the PTB showed disrespect for the fans. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

Virtue signaling seems to cover most of the blubber. Also, a goodly number of these guys never grew up before getting into significant money. So they are still children. Also, maybe the NFL, losing viewership, wants to make a bigger thing out of it purely for the ratings pop. Like Will Smith popping Chris Rock. The Oscars ratings plummet got a boost from that incident, statistics have shown it. Any way you slice it, I don't give a shit anymore, what they do.

I know we had a thread on this some years back, but no, he f'ing didn't. And unless you're talking out-of-body, looking-down-at-your-corpse, floating-towards-the-light-before-being-jerked-back-to-this-mortal-coil, you also don't know anyone who has died and been "brought back to life" unless you were around for Lazarus or Christ himself. Death involves the irreversible cessation of function. Just because one's heart stops doesn't mean one has died. It's just a good start. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

So I was there last night and I was also there at the Dolphins game this season when Tua took his hit. The delay in Tua’s situation seemed rather extended at the time though somewhat understandable but he was awake and alert. Last night was COMPLETELY different. You could tell it was way more serious much more quickly. At the stadium There was absolutely no commentary, no replay, no music, no nothing. Most everyone in the stadium thought he had died. And as of all reports so far he was nearly dead and at this point I don’t think anyone knows what will happen. He very well may pass once life support is removed. As for the crying, well it is what is it is whatever there reasons for it. Be it genuine or for the cameras. Emotions are high and many of these fellas likely believed he was dead as well. I have seen a lot of death. I have seen a lot of folks cry big, small, male, female, when they believe death is at the door for someone they care for. Even folks who stopped to help yet have never met the person, once they realize they are dead they cry for the person they have never met. I think timing and location had a lot to do with how things played out. Had he collapsed on the sideline I think the game would have continued. The fact that he was pretty much smack on the 50 yard line in the middle of the field had a lot to do with it. Also the fact that the defensive player who generally is the one to make the hit and in this instance it was Tee Higgins the ball carrier that made the solid hit, then for Hamlin to get up with no issue take few steps and just collapse was likely what really let folks understand the gravity of the situation. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad.
