You mean the pre forty crowd that is obsessed with chronicling every moment of their lives on Facebook, Twitter, 4Chan, Instagram, and any other new Social Media that will accept them as clients without charging fees? People who don't give a 2nd thought about sharing intimate life secrets with strangers they'd avoid on the street? I don't know...

So over 40 crowd isn't concerned with more government intrusion into their private lives?

Such concerns are most certainly not limited to one generation.

I've cared about it longer than those kids have been alive, for instance.

Most Tech workers I know care a great deal.

Generally, anyone with a clue cares...

Edit: either way, I'm glad he's in it.
He keeps it interesting and makes the candidates address issues others would like to leave alone.
I think it's good to see things shaken up.

I saw when he talked about the apple phone, etc.

He said that he was of the opinion that the information was important to national security.

Then, that he was going to quit using his apple phone until they helped solve that problem.

And, yes, what is contained on that phone may well be vital to national security. But, fucking around while arguing about whether to make it available to the FBI only gives the bad guys who may be listed (and other critical info) time to disappear or otherwise destroy evidence.

All apple has to do is have an FBI rep standing by while they (Apple) print out the information!

What happened to that old idea about corporations were patriotic and helped gubbermint in security issues?

Certainly not limited to one generation..
But my wife has students that are eligible to vote in this election and while many may not fully grasp the global issues or even have a personal experience with illegal immigration, everyone of them have a smart phone & computer and those items are a very big issue in their lives.

A lot of her students like Trump.

I'm saying the 'younger crowd' doesn't seem to understand nor care about Privacy...Most seem to think it's pretty normal to exhibit their entire lives on the Internet. I don't think they understand the concept of Privacy enough to vote on it as an issue.

I think Apple should find a way to get the contents of that phone to the FBI.

They share what they want and don't share what they dont. But regardless, even if someone offers up stuff freely does not mean they should be comfortable with the government accessing by force whatever they didn't offer up.

I think good luck to the FBI. Crack it if you can. Otherwise, pound sand. I'm no Apple supporter, but I hope they stand strong on this one.

I don't understand this whole FBI/Apple thing. So, Apple was ordered by a court to unlock only the terrorists phone? & they refuse to?

If they have a court order to unlock a specific phone used in the commission of a crime, I've got no problem.

I would think if I disobeyed a court order, I'd he in jail.

If they unlock one iPhone, they've unlocked them all.

Hold your horses. See update on pg. 11 here: https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...35/m/6390091893/p/11

DOJ now says Apple can keep or destroy the software after they crack open the phone.

Maybe, but that doesn't make the order legitimate. What if a judge ordered you to create a type of ammunition that would make the city's Glocks all shoot 3000fps with a 180gr bullet. You say "I can't do that without blowing up the gun." Should you go to jail?

Is that a legitimate scenario?

So I can choose whatever court orders I want follow? If I were to disobey a court order, would I not go to jail, likely immediately?

I'm big into personal freedom & keeping .gov out, I just don't understand all the facts here.

Put another way, -- If Apple develops the technology and demonstrates the capacity to crack the cypher key for an iPhone (unlock is very much the wrong word), they've done so for every device they make. It relegates the Apple product's encryption technology to an unreliable and untrustworthy status.

By the way, as I understand it there is no way to do this yet. Apple would have to (if they can) develop it.

If Apple were ordered to turn over the users iCloud credentials, I could live with that. But there's no guarantee that this would unlock the device. If it were not backed up to iCloud, I don't think it would.

The Brits recently debated for almost 3 hours in Parliament on whether or not to ban Donald Trump from entering the UK.

Early on, Paul Flynn recounts the prior banning of Geert Wilders and his subsequent successful challenge of the banning which led to that banning being overturned.

you seem to confuse the rampant *voluntary* sharing of this and that by "the kids these days" with an expectation of no privacy or a misunderstanding of it. just because the kids share more than you or I ever would, it doesn't change anything in regard to forced sharing or some implied expectation of no privacy. one has nothing to do with the other.

On this issue the FBI bloody well knows that if you give this phone to Hillary Putin will tell you what's on it three days later.

When it is a matter of National Security and the owner of the phone is dead and the government has the phone, it should be unlocked, instantly, no questions asked. If it were a safe in the guys house, it would've been opened in 30 minutes.
