I sincerely want Cruz on the court and believe it's the best utilization of his offerings.

Is there anyone, truly, who is most Scalia-esque, or otherwise a sincerely good replacement? Maybe. Our resident attorneys may know of someone. But I hope it's him, and I'm keeping my virtual fingers crossed that this is an outcome we end up with, by stalling now, electing Rubio or Trump, and pushing Cruz through the process.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer but that spot will get filled before the election. The party of compromise (Republican) will cave and a leftist will get confirmed.

I think Cruz would be great on SC but I doubt he'd settle, too young. I think he's got the fire in his belly to be potus and that's why I'm hoping for a vp slot on the Trump train. That's his ticket to the oval office.

Good post, 46. He would be the perfect replacement, but there is no way he would be confirmed in the senate because his own party hates him for outing them. I doubt he would even be nominated.

He and Trump hate each other now, so I don't think he'd take the VP nod even if it were offered to him. Even if they didn't have the ugliness of the past few weeks I don't think Cruz would have taken it. Trump is the opposite of many of the things Cruz really believes in. I think Cruz means a lot of the things he is saying about him. We'll see, I could very well be wrong, but I just don't see it.

I've said this before, but I wouldn't be shocked if Cruz finishes out his term and maybe ran for Texas governor or returns to private life. Every election is ugly, but the way his name and character have been smeared and with how ostracized he already is in Washington I couldn't fault the guy for saying I've done my best and now I'm going to be with my family.

Look at what he has been through. People will swear for years that he's a liar after this race, but when was the last time a politician went into a make or break Iowa caucus and said I'd rather lose than be dishonest about ethanol? That guy who took a position even if it cost him the state suddenly became a liar and a cheat on caucus night for a handful of votes? If he came out and lied and tried to cover it up it might not have been so bad, but he apologized and I think he got hit harder because of it. 46, I think you said this before, but he's a better man than the country may deserve at this point. I hope he doesn't, but it just wouldn't shock me if he walked after his term was up. I honestly couldn't blame him if he did. If he can't win now it's not like he'd have a shot in four years when we are further down the moral slope.

What do I know? I'm just guessing based on what I know about the guy and how I'd feel. Maybe he becomes AG?

I would also love to see Cruz as a Supreme. I think this is the wrong year for him to be elected POTUS. And we'll still need him in four years regardless. I don't believe the next president will be able to do much but maybe just stop the bleeding. After all, we still have a class/race war to get through first for Chrissakes. Roll Eyes

South Carolina awards 50 delegates.

Whoever gets most votes then wins 29 of the 50.

Then there are 3 delegates for each of the 7 congressional districts.

They are still counting, but Trump has at least 44 of the 50 delegates. He may get more.

Trump 238,067

Rubio 164,691

Cruz 163,732

Bush 57,472

Carson 52,958

I totally agree with Dana Loesch and Mark Levin, etc. Trump is certainly NOT a conservative but he is also not at all trustworthy at getting us back in touch with the Constitution, which is why we are in the predicament we currently find ourselves. Why would anyone want to, as Thomas Sowell pointed out, follow one egomaniac with another?! This is madness. I am trying to inform as many fellow citizens as possible to examine this election with a rationale perspective. We are being led in a direction that is moving away from the governmental structure of a Constitutional republic, which is what was responsible for our rapid success and prosperity; we were exceptional because we differentiated ourselves from all other forms of government by codifying that individual liberty is essential and must be protected. This movement of the 'progressive' elites - both financial and political - to undermine this republic over the last century has to be exposed and defeated. I am genuinely fearful that this fight may not succeed.

George Washington did what was right. Now it is our time to do the same. Restore the Republic!

The fact that Trump beat Cruz among Evangelicals should have future candidates re-evaluating the conventional wisdom that running hard right on social issues is necessary to win that group.

I just don't think there are that many Evangelicals around, they are a paper tiger. The ones out there are not as die hard as they were in the '80's, there's other things important to them. It's been a huge mistake for Cruz to pander to Evangelicals, while abandoning the small .gov conservatives.

I think all most Repub voters want is someone who will fight for limited .gov & fight for American values.

Cruz has no one to blame but himself. He should be the candidate, but his lack of focus on the most important aspects to Repub voters, coupled with his questionable shenanigans the last few weeks, has been his undoing.

Trump won, a third of the vote, he has always won a third of the vote, he has yet to go over a third of the vote.

Get the point, the true test for Trump is when the field starts to thin (see Bush thread).

A 1/3 of the people cant elect a president

Very good points and i agree. The lack of focus is also an indication of the lack of vision and wisdom, that separates Trump from the rest of pack, even when he utters empty slogans and has a big ego. We need a president who has a strategic view of the world and Americas role at this crucial time, for that its Trump right now. What Regan did at the time was also bAcked by a strategic vision. Our establishment focuses on old mindsets and a world view that is almost 40 years old, in our dealings with rest of world, ie europe, russia, middleeast/ terrerism, and far east. If Regan was alive today i believe he might have a view that most establishment and Regan conservatives today might find shocking. Trump is more practical, more grass root and i see more wisdom in the mass than in the elite class.

There were 732,840 South Carolina votes in this years Republican primary.

In 2012 there were 601,166 votes.

Hope this enthusiasm stays high through the November election.

8 months away from electing a new president to replace the most radical leftist and most corrupt panderer in our nation's history.

Barack Hussein Obama. He sure lived up to his name

adding:
601166 to 732840 is a 22% gain.

In 2012 Obama had 65,915,796 votes,
Romney had 60,933,500

A 22% gain would have pushed Romney to 74,338,870

Don't ever think we can't win this election.
"We" just need to get off our asses and vote.

I don't know about you but I've basically given up and my vote for Trump is my lit match on the garbage pile.

Looking at the world today these people are fighting over a broke and battered corpse that has seen better days.

The next 4 years have the potential for historical upheaval and we don't seem to be discussing any of the important issues- the economy, terrorism, immigration.....

Let it burn.
