Great, getting screwed over on the bailout, we'd be mostly phases out of bailout money, but they'll have no problem making me pay for it. All the years and years of paying my taxes and the time I need it, nope, sorry, can't help you. Where I live $75k a year is barely middle class, and is dirt poor in NYC or SF. Thanks government,.

McConnell's coronavirus stimulus plan would provide payments of $1,200 per person, $2,400 for couples

Either give it to everyone or means test it, this screws a lot of us in the middle. Giving it to fucking retirees? What income have they lost?

Questions about internet load with everybody home, working remotely, watching streaming video, etc., have been mentioned in this thread before.

Netflix has just agreed to cut their streaming video bitrates (the effective "file size" of the streaming video) by 25% (meaning basically that video will be a little fuzzier) in Europe for the next 30 days in an effort to keep from overloading Europe's internet infrastructure.

It is mentioned in the article that Europe has seen a ~50% increase in internet bandwidth usage. I'm surprised it isn't higher.

Don't forget the students and their new online classes. For example, I have three kids that come March 30th will be on their computers for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Their school will be using Google classroom. I have no idea what that is or how it works, but "This is gonna be GREAT!" The school has 400 students from maybe 200 households, some households have 4 or more students. The school has never done this before. The parents have never done this before. What could possibly go wrong?

As I noted over in the current "Trump" thread: My wife and I neither need nor want it, but we planned our retirement somewhat wisely. (Could have done better, and it's mainly my fault we didn't, but we didn't do too badly.)

Social Security is great and all, but if you've been making moderately good income, switching from that to SS alone would demand a fairly significant reduction in standard of living.

I imagine there are retirees that didn't, or couldn't, plan as we, by the Grace of God, could and did, and who have been perhaps more reliant than is good on income from retirement accounts that have now taken possibly big hits.

So some might could use it.

I hear you, Skins2881... but they ARE means testing it, based on income. It phases out beginning at $75k for an individual, $150K for a married couple.
Still, I'm opposed to ALL bailouts, whether I get one or not.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Well Jesse, my wife and I are "fucking retirees" who donated to the government for around 55 years each and we discussed it and we will probably give it to a good cause to help someone that will need it more than we do. I'll bet there will many that will do the same.

Think before you post please. Confused

Jim

Can one of the more medically educated members of the forum explain why this is?

When I or my child gets a flu test, they jam a long q-tip up my nose, I sit in the office by myself for 10 minutes and they come back and say, "You have Flu B."

If COVID-19 is so dangerous that they are willing to crash the world economy and come close to martial law, why does it take a week to get a test result? Does it require some sort of special lab to test for it?

I dunno about you and your wife, but my wife and I are still "donating" to the government, even though we're "fucking retirees."

I'm against it too, but if we are going to skyrocket our debt and devalue my savings I want it to go to me too. By means testing, i meant more needs based. If you haven't lost any income why get it? College students, retirees, those who are still working or working near full time don't need a bailout. $150k is still middle income in many places in America. If you got two people eating $74,999 but both can work from home, they are actually better off. No dry cleaning bills, no need to buy gas, not eating lunch out.

I'd be fine without it, but it would make me feel better.

The fucking part was not said against retirees, it was against giving money to people that haven't lost money getting checks. I have zero angst with retirees.

I'm a little worked up here from losing my income from this thing. I'll survive, but its going to kill my savings.

What the hell makes you think all us retirees fuck? Sure would be nice, but many wives aren't willing.

Oh, and I still pay income tax. I should get a pass on that if I don't get "stimulated". You paint with a wide brush.

Tell me something- just what is the logic behind shutting down liquor stores? Everything is closed and everyone is home. WTF is the problem with having a drink under those circumstances? You're sittin' on your couch in your own home. That's the best place to drink.

Just informed that my brother was let go by his employer. No shit, he made $75,600 in 2018. So he isn’t eligible or is he? He isn’t looking for a handout and he has savings but the stimulus is a kick in the nuts to someone just laid off that barely misses the cut.
