I am probably just slow to the realization, but what I'm seeing in the condemnations of Israel's response to the Oct 7 attack is the idea that Israel is retaliating, not that Israel was brought into an active state of war by the attack.

Retaliation would be me letting my dog crap on the neighbors front porch if they constantly let their dog crap on my front lawn even after telling them not to. Retaliation is getting in a good punch to the nose when a bully for no good reason hits you. It is a warning to stop the bad behavior or face bigger consequences.

Or in terms of past wars, the USA did not retaliate against Japan for Pearl Harbor, we went to war because they attacked us militarily. Retaliation could have been Doolittle's raid on Tokyo if we had done nothing more.

There's something broken in the logic of thinking that Israel was only allowed to retaliate after such a major and horrendous military attack. I have read and personally heard numerous complaints that Israel was blocking humanitarian aid into Gaza, including from Brits who remember WWII. I really wanted to ask them how many trucks full of humanitarian aid did England send to Berlin during the war.

It seems that a large portion of the west doesn't have an answer to what level of attack justifies a war rather than a tit-for-tat retaliation.

When, in fact, Israel has been sending in hundreds of trucks of food per day as well as vaccinating the children and numerous other "humanitarian" efforts. They dropped leaflets and sent text messages to people to vacate areas that they were going to bomb. Yeah...some genocide.

As I've said before, if Israel wanted to commit genocide, it'd be over in a couple of days. They've been at this for what? Three years now? They either really suck, or the left is full of shit.

Yes. But there's just no easy answer for Israel, or for those in the US who support Israel.
Israel tries to be humane, but in war people get hurt... even innocent people.
