I don't blame Mr Smith for this terrible incident, I blame the hand. This only drives home the point that we need strict hand control in this country to prevent hand violence. This senseless atrocity could have been prevented if only there where waiting periods for the use of Mr. Smith's dangerous dominant hand.

As far as security is concerned one of two things is possible.
1. This was genuine and security allowed someone on the stage that wasn't suppose to be on the stage at that time take a swing at the host.
2. This was part of the show and security knew it was going to happen.

Now I have a hard time believing a top shelf Hollywood security firm would have allowed this to happen if what we saw was not scripted, and if they did I certainly wouldn't hire them again.

Sometimes I wonder if people can see my posts.

Read the previous posts?! Hah! Although this thread is getting long.

It was real, not staged.

At an event like this, Rock is going to make insulting jokes. Jada Smith is fair game, being an show business insider herself. This isn't a matter of "honor," and as Tony Soprano might have said, the joke was just business, nothing personal.

Will Smith over reacted, but, in the end, did no lasting harm, except what damage he did himself. It is probably the right thing to let the whole thing die. Maybe the Academy will scold him, and they would be within their rights.

I've read reports she cheated on him. They have an open marriage. On a recent CBS Sunday Show Smith said there has been no infidelity.

He's trying to use open relationship speak to save face. As long as everything is out in the open, it's not cheating.

That sort of relationship isn't yours and it isn't mine. But those people do exist, and just because we don't understand it or approve doesn't mean that there aren't people who do behave that way. If he said that's their deal, I'm going to take him at his word.

Jimmy Dore explains...

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

The reason I don't agree with your sentiment is because the Left is currently insisting that an offensive statement is the same as violence. Indeed, they argue that if someone says something offensive to you, that grants you permission to perpetrate an act of violence against that person. Because of that ridiculous viewpoint, I'd like to see Smith get nailed for assault.

Well, but they are wrong about that. I don't want to make the same mistake they make.

And it also isn't (or may not be) right to assign the left's viewpoints to Will Smith and punish him for something he may or may not believe. We all assume all of Hollywood is leftist, but not necessarily. I don't know if Will Smith thinks offensive statements equal violence.

Chris Rock might be the most remarkable presenter in the history of awards shows. I absolutely believe it was staged, but if it wasn't, Rock is a Rock. Guy even joked about it in real time and kept the show moving.

Amy Schumer Horrified To Learn You Can Now Get Slapped For Bad Jokes

LOS ANGELES, CA—After an eventful Oscars ceremony in which Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock over a quip about his wife's hair, comedienne Amy Schumer became horrified by the realization you can now get slapped in the face for telling a bad joke.

"Wait, we can get slapped for this now?" she said wide-eyed. "Bad, poor-taste jokes about female body parts are all I know. Does that mean a psycho Hollywood star can slap me and just walk away and still get an award? Oh no! I have to get out of here!"

According to sources, Schumer will be in hiding for several months until she can come up with material unlikely to get her slapped. "I have to get back to the basics," she said. "What is a joke? Can anyone tell me?"

With the comedy world having been put on notice, many comedians are deciding to avoid telling jokes to roomfuls of mentally ill narcissists for the time being.

The Academy’s Board of Governors is expected to meet Wednesday to discuss Will Smith’s physical assault on Chris Rock at the Oscars. Smith could face disciplinary measures, and possibly expulsion, and the forfeiture of the Oscar he won on Sunday for his performance in King Richard.

The rules give the Board of Governors considerable latitude in adjudicating misconduct cases brought for review.

Little transparency about the proceedings can be expected from the board, which is comprised of members from each of the Academy’s various branches

Among the board members is Whoopi Goldberg: “I think he had one of those moments where it was like G.D. it, just stop. I get it, not everybody acts the way we would like them to act under pressure. And he snapped.”

She also said: “We’re not going to take that Oscar from him.”

And that's exactly it...I don't believe him. I believe exactly as I said, he was trying to save face, so he doesn't look like the impotent cuckold that he is. That's what the slap was about too.

This incident struck an interesting chord with me. I wasn't even aware until the jokes started flying around and then I had to figure out what happened to make sense of all the memes flooding in. I don't agree with the manner in which Will Smith chose to handle the situation at a televised formal event watched by some number of people.

However... Knowing people with alopecia, a few of them being women, I am aware of how self conscious they are about it, even if they are open. It doesn't take much to cut deep. The unscripted joke was well out of line in my opinion. The fact that it didn't appear in rehearsals says something. Perhaps there is something between Rock and the Smith's, as this isn't the first time he's taken a swipe at her.

Which brings me to my point. When I was growing up more or less everyone, including adults, knew you didn't cross a line or you were likely going to pay for it. That might cost a busted lip, a loose tooth or a good bruise somewhere. Even among 'polite' people.

We seem to have devolved into a society of "I can say whatever the F&*#@ I want and there ain't nuthin' you can do 'bout it. It's my right! It's free speech MuthaF#&@!!!". This is of course far from the truth and has nothing to do with constitutionally protected free speech. Yet it is more and more common.

Therefore, I have questions....
- Why is a person allowed to say horribly offensive and enticing things, literally begging for a fight with no penalty. They are in fact inciting a violent response and putting their 'victim' in a disadvantaged position?

- Where is the outcry against Chris Rock for poking fun at a woman who has recently been diagnosed with a disease? One who has stepped up to try and be a spokesperson for people like her?

- Does the fact that Jada was apparently unfaithful at some point, somehow make her an open target for any ridicule, anywhere, anytime, on any topic?

- Did Will Smith, in an inappropriate way, show the world that it isn't ok to cross the line?

- How many of you... if your wife had just had a double mastectomy and Chris Rock walked by on the street and said "Dayum, you is flat as a 10 year old boy" would make those the last words he ever said?

Wow, your response is laughable. Do you honestly think this is an accurate, honest, proper description of Rock's one single joke about Smith's bimbo wife?

Here is the text in case you didn't catch it; "Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,”

And you find this horribly offensive? And you find her to be a victim? And not the guy who was actually physically assaulted?

I am sick and tired of people giving this idiot asshole Will Smith any latitude on this incident. What the fuck has this country come to.
