So what if Smith “quits the academy”? He’ll go on making movies- he just won’t be able to go pick up his silly little trophies. Big whoop. He makes the producers their money; it’s all they really care about.

Your judgement is better than that. There's a 1 in 365.25 chance that a given event may occur on April 1.

The article is from Variety, a publication which was founded 116 years ago. Do you honestly believe that a publication like that would make a joke of this, less than a week after it happened?

The implications are greater than you realize. First of all, all this "It's a hoax" crap just went right out the window. Furthermore, he's just acknowledged he did wrong- not the phony apology he gave before. Smith's reputation is forever tarnished. This could cost him millions.

Combined, he and and his wife have more money than General Motors. It's more about ego than anything else. He may not be considered for this or that role. This can cost him millions but he's very wealthy and that is not going to change.

Will Smith has just opened himself up to constant paparazzi-like heckling in public.

If he doesn't have self control, he had better learn it, because he's going to hear shit that's 100 times more offensive every time he's in public from another baiting asshole.

If you saw him, how could you contain yourself?

I bet he'd pay a lot to make this go away.

Fair enough; good point.

Still seems like something cooked up between Rock and Smith that went sideways. Will Smith will get redemption...it'll be almost like a Hollywood movie. Rock is being a complete gentleman about it and Will Smith is a beloved actor. He'll be commended for his 'bravery' in 'overcoming' his inner demons. Might take a few years, but the American public is very forgiving.

This is nothing by fantasy. How you can misjudge something which is so clear, is beyond me.

I have been consistently wrong about every aspect of this situation so far. Hard to understand the emotional response...so unexpected as to amount to a sucker punch/slap

^^^ Dude, sucker punches are endemic in this culture. Have you seen the "one punch" knockout game or the beat downs on Asians?

Will just played into the same dysfunctional culture. He should know better.

Labeling this incident as a hoax, especially now after all of these days, has far less credibility than characterizing the Smollett incident as a real attack. All of the little details of the Oscars incident simply doesn't pass the smell test as a staged stunt, none of it makes sense. But it makes sense as a real confrontation.

Smith may recover, but I don't think it going to be the same for him, think Pee Wee Herman. After the first 24 hours, the blowback in Hollywood has gotten more widespread, more negative. And the big component in all of this is Chris Rock, maybe a bigger star than Smith. The comedy community is pissed.

People tend to forget that Bill Maher started out as a stand up comic.

Well, if you ascribe no greater significance to this incident than it being just a slap, you're wrong once again.

There are two sets of rules in this nation; one for the common man, and one for the privileged elites. The common man would have been dog-piled by security on the way back to his seat, arrested by local authorities, handcuffed, quickly escorted from the theater, jailed, charged, arraigned with no bail, and have a trial date pending.

The privileged elite, on the other hand, get to sit back down after committing battery in full view of millions of people, mouth off, and in less than an hour, receive a trophy and a standing ovation. Then, they get a party thrown for them with top-name celebrities in attendance, where they dance the night away, basked in glorious self-adulation.

Wake up

The first 7 minutes of another Maher clip reinforces the above.

The ego damage begins in earnest.

Netflix and Sony Reportedly Halt Development of Upcoming Will Smith Films In Wake of Oscars Slap

And all of this for his openly-bragging whore of a wife.

Don't worry, Will, your wife may be fucking other men and bragging about it in public, but she's still fucking you.

How are those conspiracy theories looking now, guys?
