The life cycle of civilizations:

Step one. From bondage to spiritual faith.
Step two. From spiritual faith to great courage.
Step three. From courage to liberty.
Step four. From liberty to abundance.
Step five. From abundance to complacency.
Step six. From complacency to apathy.
Step seven. From apathy to dependence.
Step eight. From dependency back to bondage.
Step nine. From bondage to back spiritual faith… and on it goes.

Seems to me that we are in step 7. Dependency. At least for a huge percentage of our national population. Once enough of our population has become dependent on government, they will be essentially slaves of that government, which means bondage.

I think what Carlson might mean by "in this environment" is that if you give the Democrats that much time, a whole additional week--which means well into October, and just a few weeks to the midterms-- they will pull some other shit. Who knows what?-- but they never stop.

As Andrew McCarthy said, the Republicans have rewarded delay. That can only encourage more.

Looks like the Ambulance Chaser wants in on the circus.....He thinks he's a serious contender in 2020 and wants to stay in the news now that his porn star client's 15 minutes are up.

And it looks like he is going to try to drag Mark Judge through the mud for having the temerity to deny the accusations against him and Kavanaugh.

I find "redacted" interesting... More than happy to drag Kavanaugh's name out in the public but redacted remains officially private.

Could it be that since redacted is not undergoing a supreme court nomination process and therefore having to play nice that "redacted" could sue the ever loving shit out of her for libel?

NYT reporting differently, thank goodness.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/0...ey-ford-testify.html

The talks between the two sides on Sunday morning produced an agreement on the general shape of the hearing, a person briefed on the talks said. It will be open to the public; there will be breaks at 45-minute intervals, or on request; and while Dr. Blasey prefers that Judge Kavanaugh testify first, she will accept that she might have to go first. There will also be security for Dr. Blasey, who has received death threats, and she will have two lawyers at the witness table with her.

But other sticking points remain. One is whether the committee will subpoena Mark Judge, a high school friend of Judge Kavanaugh’s who Dr. Blasey has said was in the room at the time of the assault, or any others said to be at the gathering where the alleged assault occurred. Mr. Judge has said he knows of no such incident.

If this report is accurate it looks like the accuser will be testifying after Brett Kavanaugh. WTF?

https://abc7ny.com/politics/ka...enate-panel/4310454/

Terms of their appearances are still being negotiated, but several details have been resolved.

Ford agreed that she will testify after Kavanaugh, rather than going first, as she had preferred, according to a source familiar with the talks, but was unauthorized to discuss the talks publicly and was granted anonymity.

But who will be asking the questions remains unresolved, the lawyers said.

Republicans have been trying to hire an outside female counsel who could take over the questioning. The 11 senators on the GOP side of the dais are all men, which could send an unwanted message on live television against the backdrop of the #MeToo era so close to the midterm election. They could also use staff attorneys to the Republican majority on the committee.

“Thursday is a significant date in this story,” he said. “Because of Senate rules which are complex, if Ford testifies next Thursday the vote on Kavanaugh will be pushed back at least another week. In this environment that very likely means – forever. His nomination will be over.”

I think they do have to give a week's notice of the vote:
if Ford testifies next Thursday the vote on Kavanaugh will be pushed back at least another week....
But it won't be forever. That won't happen.

But what if "new relevant information" comes out in the mean time, such as another accuser or a new found corroborating witness of the accuser comes forward? One has to believe that is probably in the works with the MO of the democrats. Would not that delay vote and more hearings? That could possibly be done multiple times as ugly as that would be. Maybe that was Tucker's point.

Maybe he was talking about momentum rather than the (yes, arcane) Senate rules.

I think that's exactly right. They could get this--essentially-- two week delay, and at the last minute bring in another accuser. If the first one could drag out a month, the second could do another month. Which pushes it past the midterms, which is their delay target.

This is why the Republicans cannot fall for this shit. The vote needs to be taken. Grassley needs to announce the vote, and then just DO IT.

Kavanaugh to Give Senate Calendars From 1982 to Back Up Denial

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/0...senate-calendar.html

WASHINGTON — Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh has calendars from the summer of 1982 that he plans to hand over to the Senate Judiciary Committee that do not show a party consistent with the description of his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, according to someone working for his confirmation.

The calendars do not disprove Dr. Blasey’s allegations, Judge Kavanaugh’s team acknowledged. He could have attended a party that he did not list. But his team will argue to the senators that the calendars provide no corroboration for her account of a small gathering at a house where he allegedly pinned her to a bed and tried to remove her clothing.

The calendars show, according to the person working for his confirmation, that he was out of town much of the summer at the beach or away with his parents. When he was at home, the calendars list his basketball games, movie outings, football workouts and college interviews. A few parties are mentioned but include names of friends other than those identified by Dr. Blasey.

Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Blasey plan to testify before the Judiciary Committee on Thursday as it considers whether to endorse his nomination to the Supreme Court. Dr. Blasey’s allegation of sexual assault when they were both teenagers has upended his seeming path to confirmation and set the stage for a public test of credibility when the two appear separately before the senators.

If she would have had a diary, she would have known where she was and how she got there. Cool
