Look at the Supremes, throwing a great one-two combo at the left.

One upholding a provision that is actually in the Constitution, and another recognizing that there is no applicable Constitutional provision.

A great step forward for textualism and historical fidelity to the document.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

As much I criticize Pope Francis' public pronouncements on-- well, just about everything-- major doctrinal shifts are exceedingly rare in the Church's history. The odds of any significant portion of Catholicism, or even the present pope, ever accepting abortion as "OK" are about as close to zero as you'll get.

Fun canon law fact: Procuring or facilitating abortion is on the very short list of "reserved sins" that can't normally be absolved through confession and penance. That one's reserved to the Vatican.

I'm not completely clear, but I think it was 5-4 on Roe and 6-3 on the Casey case in Mississippi. Roberts of course being the one splitting his decision.

I spent some time one day reading some of the amicus briefs in Dobbs. Not the ones written by real lawyers or law professors - those are as dull as dishwater. Read the ones written by the crazies. They are a riot - on both sides.

Not to side track the thread, but why doesn't the abortionist argument of 'my body, my choice' apply to suicide? Is it down to death of a person; is the heart of their position really just boiled down to a person isn't one until it's left the womb?

I am just really confused by how the left can treat a fetus/baby as just tissue, not a person. While others treat it like a person and play mozart and other such stuff. IOW, a pro-abortion person who treats it one way or another depending on the choice they make for that specific pregnancy.

I can't understand their perspective.

Haven't seen it. But I wonder if it's real or just drama. I can't believe she really cares for what her constituents want, just always pandering for the vote.

Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade
JUNE 24, 2022 PRESS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after a Republican-appointed Supreme Court majority voted to overturn Roe v. Wade:

“Today, the Republican-controlled Supreme Court has achieved the GOP’s dark and extreme goal of ripping away women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions. Because of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party and their supermajority on the Supreme Court, American women today have less freedom than their mothers.

“With Roe now out of their way, radical Republicans are charging ahead with their crusade to criminalize health freedom. In the Congress, Republicans are plotting a nationwide abortion ban. In the states, Republicans want to arrest doctors for offering reproductive care and women for terminating a pregnancy. GOP extremists are even threatening to criminalize contraception, as well as in-vitro fertilization and post-miscarriage care.

“A woman’s fundamental health decisions are her own to make, in consultation with her doctor and her loved ones – not to be dictated by far-right politicians. While Republicans seek to punish and control women, Democrats will keep fighting ferociously to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law.

“This cruel ruling is outrageous and heart-wrenching. But make no mistake: the rights of women and all Americans are on the ballot this November.”

This illustrates exactly why this decision is so important to separation of powers. It will change absolutely nothing in California, the people she purportedly represents. She's mad because federal and state legislators will now have to actually regulate abortion and they will be accountable to their constituents for what they do. For too long they have punted nearly every difficult policy decision to the Court and used that as cover for their inaction. That process cannot end soon enough, and this is a great step in that direction.

This has got to be a giant blow to the Biden regime, can you imagine going down in the history books as the President where on your watch your party’s most holy institution was overturned?
