“This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here,” Roberts said in a press release.

“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed,” Roberts wrote. “The work of the Court will not be affected in any way.”


As far as I understand, this is not a criminal investigation because leaking the draft my not technically be illegal. Rather, it is an employee misconduct investigation. Last I checked, no staffer or clerk is entitled to a job at the Supreme Court, and violating their terms of employment is punishable up to and including dismissal. Failure to follow ethics about confidentiality may lead to disbarment but that is administrative and not criminal. Failure to comply with an investigation is grounds for dismissal, and I don't think you are entitled to legal representation during misconduct investigations. I may be wrong about that - people represented by unions get representation, and some staffers might be unionized, but I doubt the clerks are.

In any case, government issued phones are certainly within limits. Failure to turn one over or erasing the phone before turning it in should result in dismissal. I'm not sure about personal phones. I would not turn my personal phone over to HR without a court order nor do I think anyone else should.

While leaking the draft opinion may not be a crime I bet they could make something stick if the perpetrator lies to investigators during the course of their investigation. And good luck becoming a member of the bar - I’m only familiar with Florida but the character and fitness investigation is very thorough and unforgiving.

The Supreme Court released a decision Friday that strikes down the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case, which, for nearly half-a-century has offered a constitutional protection to a woman's right to an abortion.

The majority opinion, which was issued in the Mississippi case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, was written by Justice Samuel Alito.

The decision was 5-4 according to CNN.

The decision overturns Roe and subsequent the 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey decision, which largely upheld the initial right.

"Roe was egregiously wrong from the start," wrote Alito in a first draft of the now official decision that was leaked in early May. "It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives."

The unprecedented leak of the opinion to Politico sent the nation, the high court, and Washington, D.C. into a frenzy as activist groups, politicians, and everyday Americans grappled with the weight of the decision.

She's not fooling anybody (that matters).

She will have to stand before God and give an account for what she's done with her life, as well as what she's done with her great power and authority. I truly pity that woman for what she will experience that day.


She isn't a very good Catholic, is she?

She has, as is usual for her, substituted her own judgment for the judgment of those actually in authority. If she had any principles, she would declare that since she cannot follow the teachings of Catholicism that she renounces Catholicism and join a church whose teachings are consistent with her actual beliefs.

She can't make a credible case that she is trying to change the Catholic church from within. This is, as I understand it, a core tenet of the church and is not something that will change, and especially not under the pressure of one ordinary lay member of the church.




The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.
