You could be right. That's what the marketing geniuses are telling them, of course. Nike's Colin Kaepernick campaign has more reward than risk Despite all the noise, sports marketing experts that spoke to Yahoo Finance in the immediate wake of the campaign say that the reward for Nike far outweighs the risk. The general consensus, for now, is that Nike made a savvy splash right at the start of a new NFL season, and is going to reap massive attention—even if some of that attention is negative. Colin Kaepernick attends the 2017 ACLU SoCal’s Bill of Rights Dinner in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Dec. 3, 2017. (Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP) “Will there be people who stop buying Nike because of this? Yes,” says Brian Cristiano, CEO of ad agency Bold Worldwide. “But there will also be others who use this as an excuse to buy another jersey or pair of sneakers. Regardless of how loud the keyboard warriors and voices opposed to Kaepernick get, Nike will remain standing at the end of it all. And as they say, no press is bad press.” Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing expert with Baker Street Advertising, echoes a similar tone. “Yes, it will alienate consumers—just look at the Twitter reaction already,” he says. “But the attention it will gain, the publicity, the media discourse, the incredible reaction will far outweigh any loss of business that might result. For every swoosh that’s lost, one or more will be gained.” https://finance.yahoo.com/news...-risk-131301863.html Of course, the Dicks at Dicks thought so too. I'm no longer in their target market, probably haven't been since high school, maybe college. But I do know that an awful lot of people are not pleased with what's going on with the NFL and Colin Kaepernick started it.... "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Yep and now Nike has tied themselves to the consequences. Whatever becomes of the kneelers movement and the popularity of the NFL, Nike is attached at the hip. If it all becomes a thug-fest and engulfed in the ghetto culture, Nike will wear that badge. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Thank you Very little |
Meh they are getting the response they expected, bad press is better than no press, and Nike is the talk of the day, the stock will rebound. I'm not a customer so I can't boycott them, and thats part of the justification for the ad campaign, perhaps the demographics of those that don't like Kapperdicky and the NFL are not typically Nike customers...

Over the years, especially during military service, I interacted with people of all ages/ demographics/ethnicities. I feel the people are a lot more united and significantly more conservative and patriotic than the media and advertising moguls would have you believe. While there may be some that the kap deal will encourage to buy Nike, the number that are going to take money elsewhere will be much larger. It is also my perspective ( somewhat of a broad generalization but basically true) that hard working wage earning people regardless of race ( those who th the money to spend on extra product) tend to be more politically conservative as well.

Not a very smart business move for Nike, I have a tendency to buy either New Balance and or Nike Air but it will be New Balances for now on.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/0...tCollection=Trending Colin Kaepernick, 21 April 2018, Amsterdam: “As police officers continue to terrorize black and brown communities, abusing their power, and then hiding behind their blue wall of silence, and laws that allow for them to kill us with virtual impunity, I have realized that our love, that sometimes manifests as black rage, is a beautiful form of defiance against a system that seeks to suppress our humanity. A system that wants us to hate ourselves.”
