“Will there be people who stop buying Nike because of this? Yes,” says Brian Cristiano, CEO of ad agency Bold Worldwide. “But there will also be others who use this as an excuse to buy another jersey or pair of sneakers. Regardless of how loud the keyboard warriors and voices opposed to Kaepernick get, Nike will remain standing at the end of it all. And as they say, no press is bad press.”

Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing expert with Baker Street Advertising, echoes a similar tone. “Yes, it will alienate consumers—just look at the Twitter reaction already,” he says. “But the attention it will gain, the publicity, the media discourse, the incredible reaction will far outweigh any loss of business that might result. For every swoosh that’s lost, one or more will be gained.”

But I do know that an awful lot of people are not pleased with what's going on with the NFL and Colin Kaepernick started it....

Yep and now Nike has tied themselves to the consequences. Whatever becomes of the kneelers movement and the popularity of the NFL, Nike is attached at the hip. If it all becomes a thug-fest and engulfed in the ghetto culture, Nike will wear that badge.

I understand Nike will hold its next sales convention at the Red Hen in Lexington.

Meh they are getting the response they expected, bad press
is better than no press, and Nike is the talk of the day,
the stock will rebound.

I'm not a customer so I can't boycott them, and thats part of
the justification for the ad campaign, perhaps the demographics
of those that don't like Kapperdicky and the NFL are not typically Nike
customers...

Just saw all this and threw my two year old nikes away. Kinda weird driving home without shoes.

Over the years, especially during military service, I interacted with people of all ages/ demographics/ethnicities. I feel the people are a lot more united and significantly more conservative and patriotic than the media and advertising moguls would have you believe.
While there may be some that the kap deal will encourage to buy Nike, the number that are going to take money elsewhere will be much larger.
It is also my perspective ( somewhat of a broad generalization but basically true) that hard working wage earning people regardless of race ( those who th the money to spend on extra product) tend to be more politically conservative as well.

Never have liked the fit of their shoes, and won’t be buying them for my kids either anymore. Great decision .......

Nike fell 3% at the stock marker today.

Not a very smart business move for Nike, I have a tendency to buy either New Balance and or Nike Air but it will be New Balances for now on.

I did that a long time ago.

2017 NFL viewership was down 16% from 2014 and by more than 18% from the high-water mark of 2015.

Kapperdick started his antics in 2016.


On the other hand:

The big draw teams (The Cowboys, Packers, Giants, 49ers and the Redskins) didn't make the '17-18 postseason for the first time since 1964

Future Hall of Fame players were injured (e.g. Aaron Rodgers) and retired (e.g Peyton Manning)

Seems like a big gamble to ignore Kapperdick's unpopularity and impact on NFL ratings
