Fuck that, too. I can name a lot more people who actually sacrificed everything. A number of the Founding Fathers. Mahatma Gandhi. Martin Luther King. Over a million American soldiers (and those of other countries).

Although a company may be large, it is a very small group of people who actually make most of the critical decisions.

Boner move but I don't own stock in Nike, don't buy or have ever worn any Nike products so I guess I really don't care.

The branding and marketing execs at A LOT of companies think like this one. Besides the obsession with social media, impressions and unique hits, the big theme right now for corporations particularly CEO/Pres and marketing chairs is believing they can get people to emotionally connected to a brand because that brand identifies them for a particular set of values. Once people are hooked, they continue to purchase their product not because it works but, because it stands for what I believe in.

It's the corporate way of virtue signaling which many of these companies are scrambling to out-virtue each other with big endorsements and big campaigns that have nothing to do with the product or, service they provide. The biggest virtue signaling brand of all is Patagonia, look up any images of a conference or gathering of wealthy VC's hobnobbing with academics or, 'woke' politicians and chances are most of the men are wearing a Patagonia vest with their dress shirts. Patagonia's products are not known for performance, design or, technology, their known for their environmental activism, philanthropy and the photography of their catalogs which connects to the first two. Nike has had a number of Patagonia sr managers and execs cross-pollinating for the last 20-years, this is not a surprise.

The company I work for right now is eye-balls deep in this. There's social justice crap EVERYWHERE, job reviews are being framed around key-words like: values, integrity and purpose. Gender identity is a major part of the national add campaign. What that engineer at Google complained about in his letter, and then got fired for, is very much alive and well at many big, well known corporations, at some point, this stupidity will reach critical mass.

This article only tells half the story. The situation was much worse.

Yes, home of NIKE.

Can we talk about NIKE and Child labor and Sweatshops? There is a lot of well documented information about NIKE out there.

Oh, they corrected these issues after public pressure.

Ignoring the Nike situation for a second, Sharknado was a cheap, made for TV movie that was as HUGE success for Syfy. It was so successful they made three sequels.

Okay, back to Nike. This may very well turn out to be the fiasco we think it looks like. But I have to think they and/or they're ad agency has done the marketing homework on this, since the risks are so obvious.

You forget that some moron came up with the idea fornthe movie Sharknado and then a larger group of morons (aka management committee) funded the movie. In other words, large corporations can and do step on their wangs.

They don't need to do any homework, as long as their largest business partners are ok with it, they'll support them. Nike excels at marketing; if there's one thing American's are suckers for, it's marketing. Bombard enough yanks with ads, get all their endorsees and celebrities to tout the same line, and swag-out all the big social media personalities, and the low-IQ types will hand over their wallets. In other words, kids and the impressionable.

Nike is another company I will refuse to deal with. I didn't watch an NFL game last year and will not this year either. If the NFL and the owners have no problem with their players showing no respect for our flag I have no respect for their products

Like the NFL, who have built up a brand for years.

Yep. Exactly. The point of sales is to not alienate your market...

My wife is the assistant athletic director for her really large high school. She just told me theres no way she’s buying any clothing from Nike this year (unless she has no other choice) she buys for all team sports btw.

Never was into Nike. Now never will be. New Balance and Merrel 'just do it' for me.
