There are ten Republican House members who are from districts Biden won in 2020. Voting for Jordan as Speaker would be cutting their own throats. Jordan failing to recognize this fact is strange. What’s he going to do, primary them?

I’m not sure how there can be a CR before Thanksgiving or any other day without someone elected Speaker. Doesn’t anything have to pass the House, and as of now, nothing can pass the House because they don’t have a speaker? All I see right now is the government shutting down in 3 or so weeks.

I don’t get what exactly is Jim Jordan’s endgame here. Does he really expect that all of the holdouts will change their mind or be intimidated into voting for him?

Man, what are you talking about? These snakes are worried about how Biden voters will vote for them? Please. Are they members of the Republican party or not? No one is remembering who voted for Speaker when they go into the ballot box. This is ridiculous.

Jordan's endgame? What is the endgame of these snakes?

I'm getting sick to death of this Mickey Mouse shit and no good, spineless Republicans.

Seeing that he’s the only candidate in the running at this moment in time, what is the end game of those holding out?

It’s not as if we have several Republican options that nobody can decide on. It’s one option. Who’s really “siding with the Democrats” here?

The House cannot conduct substantial business without a Speaker. All the Rs are going to feel increased pressure.

And the Ds are just laughing their asses off. They didn't keep apparent promises to keep McCarthy there are now they can watch chaos and dysfunction. It's on CSPAN, every news site, cable and in newspapers too.

You can't spin this into a good thing about "getting it right" because there's no endgame for the holdouts. None. At most, they can make the interim speaker the acting one until Jan when they can do this shitshow all over again.

The snakes are siding with the Uni-party.

This internecine professionally Republican stuff has nothing to do with principle centered leadership, and everything to do with self-indulgences and personal affluence.

Here are the 22 professional Republicans who would prefer to see a Democrat House Speaker:

Shameful and infuriating. We likely will never again, at least in my lifetime, have a chance at an actual great conservative Speaker like Jim Jordan. I'll never forgive these snakes for opposing him for the Speakership.

Four of them are from California in districts Biden won by a large margin. Quite honestly, they’re not likely to survive in 2024 anyway. But they damn sure won’t by voting for Jordan. It’s a non-starter. He can only lose four votes.

As to who’s a Republican, are you ready to vote away your rice bowl for the glory of some guy from Ohio? I promise you Jordan isn’t popular in their California districts. And the Democrats will surely remember in 2024. The only reason Jordan himself is still there is his district is gerrymandered like a puzzle piece. He does not have broad popularity, even in Ohio.

And some are really peeved at Matt Gaetz, to the point of not wanting to give him a ‘win’ of sorts. I think Jordan is close to what Gaetz was trying to do.

I’m not saying it’s the way to go about things, yes it’s a mess. It’s getting close to where they should put Mcarthy back as speaker.

The way I see it, the Republican majority was slim, limited power for substantial change. Now critical investigations are stalled.

No matter who it is, the lefties will be in lockstep against. The one commentator compared Gaetz efforts to the dog chasing the car, then catches it, what next?

With the thin majority, Dems all against, good luck getting a speaker in place more conservative than Mcarthy.

This about compromise. Let me give a salient example:

Donkey( or Elephant): "Hey Elephant (or Donkey), I want to kick you 30 times in the balls."

Elephant (or Donkey): "Well, I would prefer not to get kicked in the balls at all, please and thank you."

Donkey (or Elephant): "Look, how about I just kick you ten times in the balls?"

Elephant (or Donkey): "No thanks."

Donkey (or Elephant): "Ugh! You and your side are just are not willing to compromise!! I went down by 20 kicks in the balls and still, STILL you just WON'T AGREE. YOU ARE THE WORST!!!"

Compare that to this:

Elephant: "Donkey, I want to get this done. How about I kick you in the balls ten times and you kick me in the balls ten times."

Donkey: "Okay, that sucks but this needs doing. Deal."

The first example is, in basic, how a lot of people on the [fill in blank with adjective of choice to reflect a shift to the more fervent and passionate side of the political spectrum in its simplest form] left and right view the situation and are of the opinion of how compromise should work. If you can do the kicking without getting the input of the other side, kick away! If you can't best to posture this way and not get things done.

The second example is those with "moderate" "centrist" "practical" "or other adjective to view the center of the political spectrum concerned with a result that may or may not get something accomplished but which passes legislation" views. At this point, they are very much out in the weeds in both parties.

The fact is, if you are in the first camp, the no compromise camp, YOU ARE GETTING THE RESULT YOU WANT RIGHT NOW. Own it. This IS what you want(ed). For good or for ill. It may work for you in your part of the world, but I doubt it will pay out overall in a way that you want it later. But always remember, YOU ASKED FOR THIS.

The Speaker will be selected with the help the Democrats. Biden will pressure the Democrats to elect a Speaker and it will be someone palatable to them.

The bills passed will be theirs.

You will wish you had McCarthy or Jordan. Wanting the all mighty Republican who would mash down the Democrats and bring all the Republicans to toe the line, balance the budget, cut the deficit, etc was not going to happen with the current Republicans.

Say again, and again, no Plan B.

And Gaetz did cause this regardless of his unrealistic expectations. It wasn't going to happen with this bunch of Republicans.

NO PLAN B. NO PLAN B.

BTW, I fall on the side of balance the budget, reduce pork, cut deficit, etc. But you need to look at your team and run the plays that might succeed. When your only play is a Hail Mary...

As I understand, the excessive deficit spending was one of the catalysts with it all. Not to provide cover for Mcarthy, but the Republicans had a slim majority, Dems the Senate and Presidency. Even if most spending goes through the House, their power was limited.

Yeah, they can shut down the Gov’t, doesn’t really bother me. Doing so will be a losing proposition for the Republicans, as history has shown.
