Chip away the stone![]() |
A lot of supposed great rock/pop singers often sound bad live, which I don't automatically take to mean they can't sing extremely well in studio or under the right conditions. Link to original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKvZzLJYgvc

In my opinion, I always loved Whitney Houstons voice and the crank of Tina Turner and Chaka Khan. -------------------------------------------------------2/28/2015 ~ Rest in peace Dad. Lt Commander E.G.E. USN Love you.

Agree Karen Carpenter has an amazing voice but I'd call it more pop. For a rock voice I'd vote Pat Benetar.

Elizabeth "Lzzy" Hale isn't shabby. I tend to like female-vocalist bands because women typically have clearer voices than men. LAPD uses female dispatchers for this reason. (This info is old and may have changed.)

I will go with Janis Joplin...a lot because of Big Brother And The Holding Company whom she oft-times fronted...also Pat Benitar and of course Joan Jett. There are so many! ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

Well, if Julie Andrews is in consideration for best female rock vocalist of all time, I’d like to nominate Kate Smith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1rKQReqJZg

Never did. WABX in Detroit gave them airtime. Strange how memories come back, first time I listened to them, "Going Back To Colorado" was being aired. I was on my way to Ann Arbor to get parts for my '67 BSA. That voice, I thought "wow". Cool though that someone else here recognized the name. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. No one mentioned Leather Leone? ![]() I do dig some Karen Carpenter but for actual rock Pat Benetar has the voice. Her recent stuff is lighter and jazzier. It's a good evolution.

A lot of the names I am seeing I would not consider Rock vocalists. Ann Wilson is tops in my book, goose pimples when she is singing. JC
