The storm surge is the thing to worry about the most, I think. It's predicted to be over 10 feet and no telling how far inland it will go.

I drove over to Lakewood Ranch from Orlando yesterday to see my best friend that has lost his battle with cancer.

I knew it would be a bit dicey, but we promised to watch last episode of the Grand Tour together and nothing was going to stop us from keeping that promise to each other.

I75 & I4 were backed up North & East bound pretty much all day - and it took me about 15 gas stations on the return journey to finally find one that had gas in Haines city.

The traffic seemed a lot worse than normal - so I'm assuming it was people getting out of the area.

Let's hope the weather guessers are overselling this one - but it sure as heck appears to be a very bad situation for the West Coast of FL.

This one has me worried. My mom is in Dade City. Not far off the projected path. I’m envisioning the tall tree next to the house coming down. None of us are close enough to be with her if disaster strikes.

She seems less concerned as she’s been thru a dozen or more hurricanes in her lifetime. These next few days are going to be stressful

That is one big, scary son of a bitch. I've personally witnessed 100mph gusts a few times...180mph sustained winds for the amount of time that that thing is going to be overhead is mind boggling. I'm selfishly grateful that it doesn't appear to be headed towards my family in the panhandle...prayers for those of you in it's path Frown.

FWIW, 897 millibars, not millimeters of mercury.
897 mm Hg would be very high pressure, not the very low pressure (897 mb) recorded in the eye of the hurricane.

A major hurricane is not at all like Rick Astley.

Makes no difference. Still room for error. Read the NHC discussions. It is a big storm and both Tampa and Sarasota are gonna get hit. The last major hurricane to hit Tampa was in 1921. Just hope everyone is prepared.

Correct.Katrina was 28 feet and wiped out 30 miles of beachfront property. That was in 2005.It took ten years or so to build things back and things look nicer than before.

Correct. For a hurricane, I prefer the Scorpions and REO Speedwagon for mood music.

19-25ft of that came through by me through Lake Borgne, Catherine to Pontchartrain. The camps on lake Catherine still aren’t all built back. About 1/2 - 2/3
