I weathered Katrina with its 28 foot storm surge. What irks me is that people stil think Katrina hit NOLA. What happened in NOLA was an engineering failure. Nobody thought that the surge from Katrina would match the 200mph Camille in 1969. The saying is that Camille was responsilbe for the loss of life In Katrina. The most important thing to know is your elevation and weather you are prone to the storm surge,

This is the worst case scenario for Tampa. Coming right up thru the bay. Similar to the 1921 Tampa Bay Hurricane.

Prepped as well as can be, biggest issue is ground has been soaked from Helene, and now a few days of constant rain, so not a lot of places for water to go..

Generator is good to go, food, all outdoor stuff stored, pool drained down, need to get more cigars...

With those wind speeds, I dug out the plywood for the windows I used from Irma. Glad I kept, marked, and organized them back then. All staged, ready to be installed tomorrow, if need be.

Food, water, generators, fuel, BBQ fixins', all the important stuff, we always keep on hand.

All I need to do now is pack a bag in case I have to emergency evac.

Have friends in Bradenton who were going to tough it out, but just changed their minds to leave and head north to their son's place in Jax. I'm glad to hear it.

Have a cousin in Bradenton who was saying she was going to ride it out. Think we convinced her to pack up the RV and head North this afternoon as well.

If DoD, USCG, and every other agency isn't flying everything with rotors to just outside the Milton's predicted path, then it is clear the fed.gov has turned on the people of Florida AND North Carolina.

I have a close friend that lives in Ionia (on the mainland between Sanibel and Ft. Myers). He barely recovered from Ian. Now this. I've read that there are mandatory evacuations of Sanibel, Ft. Myers Beach and inland areas in that vicinity. I am wishing the best for him and all in the wake of this storm.

My wife and I are in Kissimmee for a conference. Our original return flight was scheduled for Wednesday night.

Yesterday, we changed it to Tuesday morning.

Time for this Texas boy to head home.

Forecasters are expecting Milton to weaken prior to landfall, most likely a CAT 3. If you're on the coast, evac. I'm inland enough to not catch the worst so I'll ride it out, biggest threat is these oaks falling. I expect power to go out and be down a while.

Stay safe.
