Is there a special cigar that most aficionados would love to get as a gift but would be hesitant to buy for themselves?

Not Cuban, (cuban) can be done with time and money but otherwise.

Opus X
PADRON anniversary 1964 or 1926
Davidoff Nicaragua

Less experienced smoker
Davidoff

Edit add LA Palina "Goldie"

There are some Opus X that are reasonable in price $12-$14 and most that are over the top priced $40!!! No way I'm paying that. I did spend over $20 for a Pepin 10th anniversary stick that was well worth the money but not for my budget to be a regular in the line up. For me it would have to be the Drew Estate Unico series. Feral Flying Pigs, hell even the "regular" Drew Estates are ok as a gift but a let down to buy. But yeah, the Padron's are also on the list of hard to open the wallet for. Only because of the price though.

agree with Gator on the Padron Anniversaries. The 64 Exclusivo is only about 15 at my shop but I've seen it for as much as 22. The 1926 cost more and are really good.

Now, on the other hand of good cheap smokes. The Schizo would have to be my favorite cheapie. Just over a buck a smoke depending on the size you get and if they are on sale. They are great flavorful cigars. For a bit more money the La Gloria Cubana N and R are wonderful as well. Anyone have any other cheap favorites?

Petr I owe you an apology when I posted I wish I had you budget it came out wrong. I didn't mean that how it came across should have been more like I envy your ability to enjoy a cigar more often than I can.

As far a cheap smokes go the last one I tried was "El Baton" at $5 a stick it was okay. I have pretty much given up the quest for a great cheap stick. I pretty much stay in the $8-$11 dollar range.

I ordered a box of Arturo Fuente Double Chateau http://www.famous-smoke.com/ar...au+cigars/item+10573 to give to a friend of mine for taking me out on his boat. Do you think he'll like them?

I asked another friend what he smokes and he recommended them.

No apology required! I realize this is an expensive hobby that literally goes up in smoke! As I said I am very fortunate with friends and family. It also helps I live close to CI to take advantage of the 6th one free and no shipping to boot. I try almost anything within reason. There are a few guys that work at CI that have recommended numerous sticks to try based on my likes. One guy in particular knows what tobacco is used ineach cigar. He is like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to cigars. If you happen to come across the Schizo, I highly recommend it.

Gator that stinks with the Viaje. I have been fortunate to not experience that bad of a burn. I tried a CQ4 right before I had the C-4 and the Exclusivo Leaded without any issues. Maybe the humidity is playing games with you down there. I will say the C-4 needed two touch-ups after the initial light but nothing drastic. My humidor is sitting between 62% and 64% as I have found that to kinda be the sweet spot. Any more and I get funky burn issues and wanting to go out on me, any less and they want to blow up and split.

I think in the price range you stated earlier, Pepin makes great sticks. My Father, Centurion, La Antiguedad, La Bijou are all excellent cigars.

62% to 64%? Tell me more? I've always been a pretty strict 70% guy, Much under 68% and I start to get nervous. Although I've learned that some of the darker and oilier cigars I like (Liga's) can handle the lower humidity. Maybe I will play with this over the winter....

I am not a member of the Cigar Dojo...yet. I do have the My Humidor app to keep inventory of my cigars. I only wish I had this app when I got started. I have smoked so many cigars that I have saved the bands of pretty much all of them and this would have helped me keep track of them and rate them as well. It does cost $.99 for the full version and does have it's flaws but is beneficial that I can choose what I want to smoke without staring into an open humidor.

I've been using this book to track my cigars. It is really nice, and room for hundreds of bands and notes. When I sit at the kitchen table with a glue stick my kids call it "dad's arts and crafts time".

The advantage of putting them in a book, is that it is a pretty cool conversation piece when you are smoking with friends. Amazing to me some of the stories I've heard shared by someone recognizing a certain band.

70% or above and you run a higher risk of mold. Most sites will say that 60%-70% is the range to aim for without much detail as to why. Yes, it is true that some cigars prefer low humidity while others like it high. As I said before that the lower humidity works for me at this time. It gives me a cushion that allows a give and take in spikes. If I'm riding high at 70% and get a spike, I run the risk of too much humidity and vice versa. Experiment in small increments to see what works for you. You may be surprised at less touch-ups and relights with a drier humidor.

The My Humidor app allows you to take pictures of the cigar or band or what ever you like. Of course it isn't as neat as a book that someone can just thumb through though.

Thanks for the tip on this...I have noticed some of my cigars need more relights that I think that they should. In regards to the mold, I'm hoping that the fact I use glycol will prevent that. I'm going to take your suggestion though and let it fall and hold around 67% for a while.
