Had the tv on for noise while I was reading this very thread. After a time, I looked up at the tv only to see more rioting, folks throwing anything they could find & shining those green lasers at authorities. Then I looked up at the upper left corner and noticed “Beirut”..it looked exactly like Seattle or Portland.

My poor country.

Chicago

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown announced earlier Monday that access to downtown Chicago would be "restricted" from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Part of Lake Shore Drive will be closed, several expressway ramps blocked, bridges up and rail service suspended for parts of Chicago Monday night and Tuesday morning as the city restricts access to its downtown following hours of looting and unrest that left several city businesses damaged and led to more than 100 arrests.

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown announced earlier Monday that access to downtown would be "restricted" from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as part of a multi-layer plan that was also used when looting and unrest unfolded in the city earlier this summer

The city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications later released details on what those restrictions would include.

According to OEMC the following closures are expected during those hours:

Lake Shore Drive will be closed between:

Fullerton Avenue on the North and I-55 on the South

Downtown Bridges:
All Bridges will be up by 8 p.m. with the exception of the following:

LaSalle Street
Harrison Street
Ida B. Wells / Congress Bridge (West Bound Open Only)
Lake Shore Drive
Columbus Avenue
Kinzie Street
Grand Avenue
Expressway Closures:

All Ramps from Roosevelt Road to Division Street will be closed in both directions.

Just got a push notification on my phone that KIRO has gotten reports from multiple sources that SPD Chief Carmen Best is going to announce her resignation this week. I'm going to try to find something I can link, but this is breaking on their radio show.

Between the rioters trying to show up at her home, and the defunding, I'm sure she's not the only one ready to throw in the towel. Thanks, Seattle city council. Great job.

*Edit- Link to story has a letter to the SPD from both Chief Best and Mayor Durkan.

Maybe the most important revelation in this essential thread.

I had hopes for Seattle. On Sunday there were hundreds of (normal) people peacefully demonstrating in support of the police. But then the Council screwed them.

Not that I think there's a chance in hell the voters would act on it, but is there a recall provision in Seattle for city council people? What would that entail? Don't they swear an oath of office? I would think they might be open to lawsuits, even on a personal level, after all this crap is over. They have completely crapped out on their city and their responsibilities.

I won't even ask about Portlandia. They are completely down the rabbit hole.

I can't forsake the decent people that I know are effectively trapped in both cities. God help them.

A solution to these rioters is a return to the old days of the TPF. Big cities had such a unit and cleared protests with very long hickory batons. Left a lot of protesters rethinking their behavior.

I told my son about the LA Police that kept the mafia out of the city. If any made guys showed up and tried to set up shop, the police made sure they left town, or were never heard from again. As a result, the mafia never got a foothold in LA, like they did in Las Vegas after they branched out from the east coast and Chicago.

They Police did what was needed to maintain law and order and prevent crime by known bad actors. That they did it by force instead of though the legal system is something that few politicians would condone today. But the thing is, doing it the "right" way would not have gotten the desired result. The ends justified the means, but they were doing the wrong thing for the right reasons.

The US military, police, and conservative politicians fail when they try to fight clean against a dirty opponent. Taking the high road might be noble, but in the end it's still a loss and history isn't kind to losers.

Howdy,
The Wife and I had a discussion about being attacked at home.
She is very concerned.
Fortunately we live in a small Texas town.
We moved to Texas so we can live peacefully.
Everyone we know has Guns.
Our nearest neighbor is over 200 yards away.
We're too old to fight, too slow to run.
Soo, for us, it's Alamo time.
She's happy that we have sufficient ammo to last until the Cavalry arrives.

And we have all seen it before. None of this is new. Not the yelling about USA being illegitimate because it is on stolen land, not the rioting over injustice, not the use of human shields whether it's "moms", "veterans", "children", not the destruction of statues, not the edited videos of wailing for children in cages, not the crowd shaming for not doing "this", and certainly not the character assassination of anyone who stands in their way.

Nope, not a single thing is new. They have used the exact same game plan since the 1950s on Israel to try to make the world side with Palestine.

They have used the same plan to push mass illegal migration around the world. The same plan for global health "standards" with feel good NGOs and charities. The exact same plan to get everyone in line with global warming, parading every imaginable prop in front of people. Same with this C19, it really is nothing new and yet punish small businesses and individual activities like hiking and fishing.

So is it even a conspiracy if they use the same plan every single time? Trump's make America First policy shook the foundations of their 30 years of planning and they are throwing a tantrum and really that's all it is and will ever be. We just have to stand our ground.

I posted this in the Trump thread as well, but thought it might be apropos here...

What a pure JOY to hear this young woman speak with Dennis Prager. I seriously pray that more and more yutes of this fine young lady's generation will wake up as she has (the TRUE "woke"). I HOPE she is the beacon of light to other lost souls entrenched in the utter abomination of Leftist Progressivism.

You don’t have a damn thing to worry about. Given where you are, the last thing that should be on your mind is rioters etc.

We keep each other informed and try and stay level headed.
But ready for every contingency we can.

One thing I realized was that though I have a fair amount of rifle ammunition, I only had around 4 magazines actually loaded. I had quite a number of Pmags still sealed from 6-7 ago. Plus some Troy mags just as old (only ones I could find post Sandy Hook).
Now every one of them is loaded and labeled.
Rifle is clean.

Just keeping my eyes and ears open.

You're not wrong, however the difference is they were able to get a guy elected (#44) to POTUS, who was able to articulate, and give a platform for the far-left and it's causes thus providing legitimacy. Listening to the language that's used: Lasting Change, Fundamental Change, Reimagine the Future, Radical Experiment... the academics, celebrities and marketing clowns toss these words around like candy, they fluff up and inflate their speeches and statements. To the foot soldiers, the useful idiots, they take them literally.
Distill it down, these people are bigots; they hate the world they exist in and thus, everything must be changed, they've bought into stereotypes, generalities and assumptions. Throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Yeah, I posted about it on page 41.

Here's another followup from KIRO. Fuckin' Kshama Sawant is a disgusting human being.

quote:
SEATTLE — The Seattle City Council on Monday passed its amended 2020 budget that included historic reductions to the Seattle Police Department, such as cutting as many as 100 officers through layoffs and attrition.

“Today, council colleagues, we are beginning to put ourselves on the path to righting those historic wrongs,” Council member Teresa Mosqueda said.

The action was supported by demonstrators who have marched in the city following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis but was strongly opposed by Mayor Jenny Durkan and police Chief Carmen Best. But it's far less than the 50% the council initially promised, which Black Lives Matter supporters demanded be reinvested elsewhere in the community.

Instead, the approved budget will cut about $3 million of the department's $400 million annual budget this year.

Council members approved the cuts with a vote of 7-1. Debora Juarez was not present while Kshama Sawant was the lone “no” vote.

“It completely fails to defund t he police by 50%, as six of the eight council members had promised to support and carries out a major austerity program on behalf of big business,” Sawant said.

The council also walked back severe cuts to Best's salary.

Though the mayor and Best had urged the council to slow down, Council member Lisa Herbold said the time is now.

“We always have to think beyond what is normally considered realistic and possible,” Herbold said.

Council member Alex Pederson acknowledged the bill isn’t perfect. He also said there are measures he doesn’t support, such as eliminating the navigation team. But he said a yes vote today shows he’s looking at the bigger picture.

“Just like all appropriation bills at all levels of government, there are items that each of us might not prefer. But the big picture is we must row together, both the executive and legislative branches,” Pederson explained.

It’s important to note, ultimately, it’s up to Best to decide how to slash her department. But the council is making clear where it wants those cuts to happen.

Best said the layoffs would result in the newest and most diverse officers being let go. The council suggested those layoffs could happen “out of order” and target officers with the most complaints. But Best said it would be extremely difficult and even illegal.
