How do you carry a rifle in a gym bag?

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. Pure ignorance. And this time from an ex-secret service agent on NBC news. Hopefully she was just a paper pusher in the SSA. This one is as bad as Greg Jarrett's bullet button comment.

No, but one Congressman is proposing they allow it.

Some members of Congress do carry legally.

Like Dave Reichert, former King County Sherriff in WA state. He observes the laws of both WA state DC.

Be nice to see more observance of the 2nd by our law makers; own and take responsibility for their own safety. And bolster that with security. Not necessarily SSA, but perhaps, a Protective Service detail sponsored/monitored/funded by DHS.

The former servicemen and women who could do with a well paying job with benefits.

Yup, arguments for and against the opinion that I just wrote.

Are you sure you really want to go there?

That's the same "logic" Democrats and leftists have used in the past, anytime somebody not-a-Democrat/leftist committed mayhem on the innocent with a firearm.

A couple of questions: With so many threats coming from so many groups on the left, who is responsible for providing security for members of Congress? Would it be possible to provide a security detail for each one?
As it stands, only leadership of the parties have security and it's Capitol Police. It would cost a fair amount to add 1000+ security jobs.

I think they should consider security whenever there is a gathering of congressman such as this. I'm not sure if providing security to each and every congressman or congresswoman is necessarily appropriate or practical.

But when they are together in a large group? Certainly. It would seem prudent.

This makes sense and there was a detail here that seems to have prevented much worse outcome.

Providing a detail to every Congressman would get expensive quickly. Two person detail adds up to six people just so cover M-F with 8 hour shifts. Add in time off, weekends, sick time and your looking at 10+ people per congressman. Now if they have a detail who drive them and in what. Add in vehicles for each detail. This would get very expensive.

There are crazy people out there and this guy is certainly one of them but these things happen very infrequently.

Im fine with Congressmen being able to carry if they can meet the same qualifications others have to. Maybe start with notional carry laws so they and others can carry in their home state and others when they travel.

WAS married. HAD a kid. He is now fertilizer, and carrying on a completely different conversation than was his custom. It will be a short one. Actually, he's finished already, and has a completely different perspective on life, the Universe and everything.

I would much rather see concealed carry nationally for everyone. While this event was tragic, I do not believe that any person in our government is any more important than the rest of us. This would just create another law that only applies to the elites, and I don't like that!

I do not want the U.S. Gov't anywhere near my right to carry firearms. Somehow, someway, they'll fuck it up.

Well, let's think about that.

We have a rich variety of ahhh, ehhh, errrr, characters, in Congress, thingies that go up, Guam tipping over, Maxine, Sheila, who regularly demonstrate that they might be dangerous with sharp objects, let alone firearms.

FFS. They should have to abide by all of the same laws that we have to. Is our republic not greater than these men and women? It's the ideas that we champion, not the royalty in the city where they decide to meet.

If you want to carry a concealed pistol in DC, live under the same laws that your maid or taxi driver has to abide by. That includes varying laws from state-to-state. Is it a bitch to travel with a pistol? GOOD. It is for the rest of us as well.

You are no greater or less than I am. We just chose for you to represent us while you're in D.C. You are not royalty or of some divine bloodline.

I don't know what I was expecting, but I was very impressed by that news conference by the FBI and the two chiefs. No speculation, just facts. And the reporters asking the same questions over and over...my word it hasn't even been 12 hours. Dam the media is disgusting.

The FBI agent in charge made me think of Samuel Gerard from The Fugitive in that press conference.

I just saw an update reporting it was actually a SKS with a scope...

I'd like to see a picture - might have been a 10/22 for all the media actually knows.

I heard an interview with a witness earlier in the day who said he saw an AK-47. May very well be an SKS.

It doesn't sound like a 10-22 on the video.

Among the witnesses I've heard, an M-4, AR-15, SKS, AK-47, full auto according to some bimbo sounding former SS agent supposedly. Good grief!
